Design and development of a new biomedical/open surgical instrument  [PDF]

Abstract: This article introduces a new biomedical / open surgical instrument to assist surgeon in applying surgical clips to patient’s body tissue and blood vessel during surgical processes. The new clip delivery system is designed to better the clip’s distal advance through internal clip channel, jaw guiding track, and all other transition areas to keep surgical clip from accidental shooting out during clip’s distal move into jaws. Currently the clip distal move in normal surgical instrument is usually driven by compression springs and some complains of clip accidental drop-off were recorded in surgical procedures. Because higher request of dimensional tolerance and better component surface quality are needed in case the compression springs are used as driven force, a little dimensional devia-tion or less qualified part surface produced from manufacturing processes will potentially cause surgical clip device malfunction or misfiring of the clips. It is clearly known that the jaws can seriously sever or damage patient’s blood ves-sel or body tissue if there is no clip inside the jaws due to accidental clip drop-off, when surgeons close instrument handles. The improved internal system design in this new open surgical instrument can prevent clip from accidental drop-off because of well guided and controlled clip distal move through internal clip channel and track. Besides the operational force to fully form clip is lower than existing surgical clip devices due to better mechanical advantage in this new instrument design. In addition to the above, manufacturing and product cost can be decreased since lower requirement of dimensional tolerance and surface quality of instrumental parts is allowed in this new surgical instrument design. This new instrumental prototype is build upon the analysis of computer aided modeling and simulation to prove its good mechanical advantage, feasible function, reliable performance. The preliminary results of instrument fir-ing force from both computer aided modeling and prototype testing are very close to each other, and preliminary prototype testing shows no accidental clip drop-off in this new biomedical / surgical clip instrument.
The Analysis of the Influences of Student’s Narcissistic Personality Traits to Negative Mentoring Experiences  [PDF]

Abstract: Narcissistic personality traits have been extensively studied in foreign countries. However, there is little domestic related research on it. We use a questionnaire survey to analyze the correlations of narcissistic level and negative mentoring experiences. This study will examine the effects of graduate students’ narcissistic personality traits and negative mentoring experiences that graduate students have experienced. 301 graduate students of a 985 university have participated in the survey. Finally, we found that the level of narcissism has a positive impact on the degree of the negative mentoring experiences they experience. In the five dimensions of negative mentoring experiences, level of narcissism has the greatest positive effect on distancing behavior than other dimensions, while the minimal positive effect on general dysfunction. In addition, we also discuss the relationship between the level of narcissism and the quality of mentor student relationship, intention to maintain the relationship. We hope that this paper could provide valuable reference for improving the quality of graduate education.
Computer aided modeling and analysis of a new biomedical and surgical instrument  [PDF]

Abstract: This paper describes the recent research and development of an endo surgical/biomedical instrument in surgical suture applications for minimally invasive therapy procedure. The newly developed instruments can not only protect the wound during the surgical procedure but also actively help the healing process. The new mechanism design of the surgical instrument aids in better ergonomic design, reliable functionality, and continuous cost reduction in product manufacturing. 3-D modeling technique, functionality analysis, kinematical simulation and computer aided solution have been applied to the instrument design, development and future improvement to meet the specific requirements of minimally invasive surgery procedure. The improved new endo surgical/biomedical instrument can prevent patient’s vessels and tissues from being damaging because the distal move of clips are well controlled without clip drop-off incident. Plus the operational force to form the clip is lower than regular surgical/biomedical instruments due to this special new mechanism design. In addition to the above, the manufacturing and product cost can be decreased because the dimensional tolerance of components, such as clip channel and jaw guide track, can be loose due to this new instrument design. The prototypes of this new endo surgical/biomedical instrument design are analyzed through computer aided modeling and simulation, in order to prove its feasible functionality, reliable performance, and mechanical advantage. All these improved features have also been tested and verified through the prototypes.

Abstract: In this paper, a new conjugate gradient formula and its algorithm for solving unconstrained optimization problems are proposed. The given formula satisfies with satisfying the descent condition. Under the Grippo-Lucidi line search, the global convergence property of the given method is discussed. The numerical results show that the new method is efficient for the given test problems.

Abstract: One major difference among surgical instruments is the level of bodily disruption and tissue trauma that surgical devices might cause the patients. This newly designed and developed surgical instrument aims at minimally invasive therapy procedure, more reliable and durable function, less operational force, and reduced manufacturing cost. The computer aided modeling and simulation have been applied to help this new instrument design and analysis. This improved new surgical instrument is designed to use in general surgery to prevent patient's vessels and tissues from being damaging due to reliable motion control of surgical clips with no unexpected clip drop. It can also be applied to surgical education purpose to educate medical students for their future surgical careers. The prototype testing indicated that the handle operational force to close surgical clips is lower than current surgical clip instruments, product manufacturing is cost-effective due to less dimensional tolerance control of this new instrument design, more reliable instrument function, and good mechanical advantage.

Abstract: Innocent domestic brands are always infected by some overseas brand crises. In this article, we examined the factors that can inhibit the spillover effects of overseas brand crises. The results revealed that high level of mental construal and national identity can help domestic brands defend the negative spillover effects of overseas brand crises. For consumers with low level of national identity, they evaluate domestic brands more favorably when they are at the high level of construal than assigned at the low level of construal.
Wireless Hybrid QoS Architecture with an Enhancement of Fair Intelligent Congestion Control  [PDF]

Abstract: More subtle and explicit QoS control mechanisms are required at the radio access level, even though the simple and scalable Differentiated Services (DiffServ) QoS control model is acceptable for the core of the network. At the radio access level, available resources are severely limited and the degree of traffic aggregation is not significant, thus rendering the DiffServ principles less effective. In this paper we present a suitable hybrid QoS architecture framework to address the problem. At the wireless access end, the local QoS mechanism is designed in the context of IEEE 802.11 WLAN with 802.11e QoS extensions; so streams of those session-based applications are admitted, established according to the traffic profile they require, and guaranteed. As the core in the Admission Control of the hybrid QoS architecture, the Fair Intelligent Congestion Control (FICC) algorithm is applied to provide fairness among traffic aggregates and control congestion at the bottleneck interface between the wireless link and the network core via mechanisms of packet scheduling, buffer management, feedback and adjustments. It manages effectively the overloading scenario by preventing traffic violation from uncontrolled traffic, and providing guarantee to the priority traffic in terms of guaranteed bandwidth allocation and specified delay.
Corporate Image Cognition Influence Perceived Quality and Purchase Intention Empirical Research  [PDF]

Based on the theory of corporate image and perceived quality, we researched influence of consumers corporate image cognition on consumers perceived quality and purchase intention. We take the telecoms operator as practical example to do questionnaire survey and analyze the data with SPSS16.0 and structural equation model; the research results show that consumers’ corporate image cognition directly and prominently affects perceived quality instead of consumer purchase intention; It also shows that in china marketing environment, the social image of corporate image has the greatest effect on consumer perceived quality, followed by staff image and marketing image.
