THz Generation by Optical Rectification and Competition with Other Nonlinear Processes

Abstract: We present a study of the competition between tera-hertz (THz) generation by optical rectification in <110> ZnTe crystals, two-photon absorption, secondharmonic generation and free-carrier absorption. The two-photon nonlinear absorption coefficient, second harmonic generation efficiency and free-carrier absorption coefficient in the THz range are measured independently. The incident pump field is shown to be depleted by two-photon absorption and the THz radiation is shown to be reduced, upon focusing, by free-carrier absorption. The reduction of the generated THz radiation upon tight focusing is explained, provided that one also takes into account diffraction effects fromthe sub-wavelength THz source.

Type specimen is deposited in the Mycological Herbarium of Institute of Microbiology, Academia Sinica, Beijing. Isotype specimen in the Herbarium Mycologicum, "August 1" Agricultural College of Xinjiang (HMAACX)China.

Abstract: A new species and new combination of the genus. Phyllactinia are reported. The new species is Phyllactinia enkianthi Z. Y. Zhao sp. nov. on Enkianthus chinensis Franch. (Ericaceae) and new combination is Phyllactinia ribesii (Jacz.) Z. Y. Zhao comb. nov. on Ribes sp. (Grossulariaceae). Chinese and Latin diagnoses of the new species are given. Type specimen of the new species mentioned above is deposited in the Herbarium Mycologicum, Institute of Microbiology, Academia Sinica., Beijing. Isotype specimens of the new species mentioned above are deposited in the Herbarium Mycologicum "August 1" Agricultural College of Xinjiang, China.
Anomalous decoherence effect in a quantum bath

Abstract: Decoherence of quantum objects in noisy environments is important in quantum sciences and technologies. It is generally believed that different processes coupled to the same noise source should have similar decoherence behaviors and stronger noises would cause faster decoherence. Here we show that in a quantum bath, the case can be the opposite. In particular, we predict that the multi-transition of a nitrogen-vacancy center spin-1 in diamond can have longer coherence time than the single-transitions, even though the former suffers twice stronger noises from the nuclear spin bath than the latter. This anomalous decoherence effect is due to manipulation of the bath evolution via flips of the center spin.

Abstract: Gymnosporangium tianschanicum sp. nov. on Sabina vulgaris from Hami, Xinjiang Autonomous Region in northwest of China is described. The species is quite easily recognized by the presence of uredinial stage, and the unicellular teliospores occasionally intermixed with urediniospores in the uredinia.

Abstract: Seven species and one variety in the three genera,Amphisphaerella Coniochaeta and Rosellinia,occurring in Xinjiang,China were treated in this paper.Coniochaeta haloxy- lonis (B.Kravtz.) Z.Q.Yuan & Z.Y.Zhao com.nov.,a new combination based on Rosellonia haloxyli B.Kfaxtz.,is characterized by having oblong cylindrical ascospores with a length/ width ratio of 2.5,lacking setae on perithecium and associating with desert plants.Amphis- phaerella xylostei,Coniochata ligniria,Rosellinia thelena and R.apiculata var.macrospora are recorded for the first time from China. All specimens metioned in this paper are deposited in the Herbarium of Mycology,August 1st Agricultural College (HMAAC),Xinjiang,China.

Abstract: Adsorption of organic pollutants from waste waters at ambient conditions followed by catalytic dry oxidation of these adsorbed materials at low temperatures has been reported to be a promising method for the treatment of toxic and/or bio-refractory wastewaters.This work mainly investigated the effect of metal loadings on the catalytic activity of the CuO/AC catalyst-sorbent used for the catalytic dry oxidation of phenol through temperature-programmed oxidation(TPO) and consecutive adsorption-oxidation experiments. The results indicate that increasing metal loadings promotes the phenol oxidation activity of the CuO/AC catalyst-sorbent,and enhances the affinity between the phenol and the CuO/AC catalyst-sorbent.This makes the adsorbed phenol desorb and/or de-associatively desorb from the catalyst-sorbent difficult.In addition,the ignition activity of the CuO/AC catalyst-sorbent itself is improved with increasing metal loadings.According to these results,it is clear that there is a proper metal loadings range of 3 ~ 5% for the CuO/AC catalyst-sorbent used for catalytic dry oxidation of phenol,which is calculated as the Cu weight percent.
