Abstract: In order to understand the solidification process of an atomized droplet and predict the fraction solidification of droplets with flight distance during spray forming, a numerical model based on the population dynamics approach is developed to describe the microstructure evolution under the common action of the nucleation and growth of grains. The model is coupled with droplets heat transfer controlling equations and solved for AI-4.5 wt pct Cu alloy. It is demonstrated that the numerical results describe the solidification process well.

Abstract: The role of grain-boundary (GB) in the melting for =5 bicrystals of B2 NiAl is investigated by molecular-dynamics simulation. The thermodynamic properties of the boundary are monitored over a wide temperature range including the thermodynamic melting point Tm, which is determined by using a many-body potential fitted to NiAl. A thermal disorder transition in the GB region occurs well below the melting point. Our results indicate that such a transition is a continuous process and there is no evidence of premelting, which is entirely in accord with experimental results and theoretical prediction. Moreover, we also find that the superheated temperature range of this intermetallic alloy is much wider than that of some elemental metals.

Abstract: A mathematical model is developed to predict the shape evolution of a growing rod billet during spray forming and a timesaving method for the calculation of the shadowing efficiency is provided. The results show that the spray-density parameters, the withdrawal rate of the substrate, and the initial eccentric distance play important roles in the shape evolution of the billet. The spray angle affects mainly the shape of the upper transition region of the billet. The angular velocity of the substrate has little influence on the buildup of the billet unless it is excessively fast or slow. The growth rate of the billet's vertex will equal to the withdrawal rate of the substrate after a period of time of the spray forming. The time required to reach the steady growth state of the billet can be reduced by using an appropriate initial eccentric distance if other processing parameters keep constant. The numerical result agrees well with the experimental result. A route for the optimization of the spray forming parameters is presented.

Abstract: The present paper summarizes the current status of high resolution electron microscopy (HREM)and the applications of HREM to materials science and condensed matter physics. This review recounts the latest development of high resolution electron microscope, progress of HREM and the applications of HREM, including the crystal structure determination of microcrystalline materials and characterization of the local structure of the defects and nanostructured materials as well as qualitative and quantitative analysis of the grain boundaries, interfaces and interfacial reactions in the advanced materials by means of HREM in combination with electron diffraction,subnanometer level analysis, image simulation and image processing.
Microstructure of Epitaxial La0.7Ca0.3MnO3 Thin Films Deposited by Direct Current Magnetron Sputtering on LaAlO3 Substrate

Abstract: Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and high resolution electron microscopy (HREM) have been used to study the microstructural properties of La0.7Ca0.3MnO3 films on (001) LaAlO3 substrates prepared by direct current magnetron sputtering technique. The as-grown thin films with different thickness are perfectly coherent with the substrates. The film suffers a tetragonal deformation in the area near the interface between the film and the substrate. With increasing thickness, the film is partially relaxed. It was found that La0.7Ca0.3MnO3 films consist of two types of oriented domains described as: (1) (110)f 001]f||(001)s100]s and (1110)f 001]f||(001)s100]s and (2) (110)f 001]f||(001)s010]s and (1110)f 001]f//(001)s010]s. Upon annealing, the film is relaxed by the formation of misˉt dislocations. Other than misˉt dislocations, two types of threading dislocations with Burgers vector of <100> and <110> were also identified.

Abstract: Objective: A new method based on high performance liquid chromatography- electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (HPLC-ESI-MS) was developed for the rapid identification of active compounds in Asterias rollestoni Bell and development of its fingerprints. Method: Samples were extracted by ultrasonic-assist extraction, and the extraction conditions were optimized. The developed HPLC -ESI -MS method was used to identification of the components in Asterias rollestoni Bell extract, and a chromatographic fingerprint based on HPLC analysis was established. Result: Eleven compounds in Asterias rollestoni Bell extract could be primary identified by ESI-MS on-line detection combined with literature review. The result of similarity evaluation for fingerprint indicated that the quality of different Asterias rollestoni Bell samples were not entirely consistent. Conclusion: This method has the advantages of simple operation, rapid measurement and it is a powerful tool for identification of active components in Asterias rollestoni Bell and its quality control.
Simultaneous determination of 7 nucleosides in Asterias rollestoni using reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography

Abstract: A method for the simultaneous determination of 7 nucleosides in Asterias rollestoni was developed using reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC). Analytes were extracted by ultrasonic-assisted extraction and separated on two different C18 columns, which were connected in series, under the gradient elution with the mobile phases of methanol and 0.2% (v/v) acetic acid/water at room temperature. The chromatographic conditions were as follows: flow rate, 0.8 mL/min; detection wavelength, 260 nm; injection volume, 20 μL. Under the optimized conditions, good linear relationships between the values of mass concentrations and the peak areas of hypoxanthine, uridine, xanthine, thymine, inosine, guanosine and thymidine were observed in the ranges of 0.65-40, 0.80-40, 0.80-40, 1.15-40, 0.80-40, 0.50-40, and 0.65-40 mg/L, respectively. The relative standard deviations were around 0.72%-3.23% and the recoveries were around 90.00%-105.00%. The results showed that the developed method is sensitive, accurate and reproducible. It is suitable for the analysis of nucleosides in Asterias rollestoni with high recoveries and it is expected to be used for the quality control and evaluation of Asterias rollestoni.
