Effect of alloying elements on valence electron structure (VES) of Fe3A1 intermetallic compounds

Abstract: The hybridized state of each atom changes with various changes of alloying elements and different alloying degrees. It is shown that during the course of alloying, the changes in the microsolid-state reflection such as atomic hybridized state make the corresponding VES parameters change, and that affects the mechanical properties of Fe3Al alloys.

Abstract: The effect of lanthanum ions on the structural and conformational change of yeast tRNAphe was studied by1H NMR. The results suggest that the tertiary base pair (G-15)(C-48), which was located in the terminal in the augmented dihydrouridine helix (D-helix), was markedly affected by adding La3+ and shifted 0.33 downfield. Based pair (U-8)(A-14), which is associated with a tertiary interaction, links the base of the acceptor stem to the D-stem and anchors the elbow of the L structure, shifted 0.20 upfield. Another imino proton that may be affected by La3+ in tRNAphe is the tertiary base pair (G-19)(C-56). The assignment of this resonance is tentative since it is located in the region of highly overlapping resonances between 12.6 and 12.2. This base pair helps to anchor the D-loop to the TΨC loop.

Abstract: Using a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) based method six distinct candidate disease resistant gene (R) homologs from rice have been isolated. The rice sequences are organized into two phylogenetic groups with contrasting genomic organization patterns. The first group, represented by a single sequence, Osh359-1, is more similar to non-riceR sequences than to rice ones and has a simple genomic organization. The second group, represented by Osh359-3, contains the remaining five rice sequences. Osh359-3 consists of a multi-gene family. The members of Osh359-3 family are further found to be clustered together in the genome.

Abstract: The lattice parameter of Fe-Mn-C austenite dissolved aluminium,chro-mium and silicon has been measured by means of X-ray diffractometer.The experimentalresults indicate that lattice parameter of Fe-Mn-C austenite increases linealy with an in-crease in aluminium or chromium content,while decreases linearly with an increase insilicon content.

Combined Surgical Intervention Treatments for Lung Cancer and Coronary Heart Disease Patients

Abstract: Background and objective The number of patients with both lung cancer and coronary heart disease has increased for the last ten years. The aim of this study is to analyze the outcome of the combined treatment of radical surgery and off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting (OPCABG) for patients with both lung cancer and coronary heart disease. Methods The clinical data of 18 patients (16 males and 2 females, mean age of 66.11 years) with both lung cancer and coronary heart disease who went through combined surgical interventions between 2003 and 2012 were summarized and analyzed. The lung cancer in these patients was predominantly at stages I and II (TNM). All patients’ cardio-pulmonary function was favorable. Results All the patients survived the operation, without any recorded death and new myocardial infarction occurrence during the perioperative period. Squamous carcinoma and adenocarcinoma were found in 10 and 8 patients, respectively. Pathological lung cancer stage was Ia in 2 cases, Ib in 8 cases, IIa in 3 cases, II b in 3 cases, and IIIa in 2 cases. The most frequently observed complications were cardiac arrhythmias, atelectasis, and pulmonary infections. The mean values of operating room time, postoperative drainage, drainage tube time, and blood transfusion were significantly different between video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) groups and thoractomy groups. No significant differences in survival rate were found (P=0.187). Conclusion The combined method of OPCABG and pulmonary resection is a safe and effective treatment for patients with both lung cancer and coronary heart disease. VATS lobectomy is beneficial for lung cancer patients because it reduces lesions.

Synthesis and Characterization of Well-Defined Soluble - and -Functionalized Polymers via RAFT Copolymerization

Abstract: The reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) copolymerizations of 2-((8-hydroxyquinolin-5-yl)methoxy)ethyl methacrylate (HQHEMA) with styrene (St) or methyl methacrylate (MMA) were successfully carried out in the presence of 2-cyanoprop-2-yl dithionaphthalenoate (CPDN). The polymerization behaviors showed the typical living natures by the first-order polymerization kinetics, the linear dependence of molecular weights of the polymers on the monomer conversions with the relatively narrow molecular weight distributions , and the successful chain extension experiments. The soluble polymers having tris(8-hydroxyquinoline)aluminum ( ) and bis(8-hydroxyquinoline) znic(II) ( ) side chains were obtained via complexation of the polymers with aluminium isopropoxide or zinc acetate in the presence of monomeric 8-hydroxyquinoline, which had strong fluorescent emission at 520?nm. The obtained polymers were characterized by GPC, NMR, UV-vis, and fluorescent spectra. 1. Introduction In recent years, organic electroluminescence (EL) display devices have attracted more intensive attention as a promising technology for flat panel display [1]. Many emitting materials, including low-weight molecules and polymers, have been designed and utilized in fabricating organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) [2–5]. Among them, metal 8-hydroxyquinoline (Mqn) chelates, especially for tris(8-hydroxyquinoline)aluminum (Alq3), and bis(8-hydroxyquinoline) znic(II) (Znq2) have been extensively investigated for their high stabilities, good emissions, and electron-transporting properties [6–8]. Compared with low-weight 8-hydroxyquinoline (Mqn) chelate, the polymers containing Mqn pendant groups combine the fluorescent property of Mqn and the processability of the polymer [6, 7, 9]. Up to now, two types of Mqn-containing polymers (main-chain type and side-chain type) have been reported. Yamamoto and Yamaquchi reported the synthesis of poly(quinolinol) [10] and poly(aryleneethynylene) [11] containing 8-quinolinol moieties. On the other hand, various side-chain type polymers including poly(arylene ether) [12], copolymers of 7-allyl-, or 7-(2-methylvinyl)-functionalized derivatives of 8-hydroquinoline with styrene [13], functionalized polystyrene [14], and copolymers of methacrylates having 8-hydroxyquinoline moieties were also successfully prepared [15]. Furthermore, Mqn-containing polymers were obtained by the reaction of the above polymers with metal compounds in the presence of monomeric 8-hydroxyquinoline.
