Diversity analysis of the largest subunit of the multi-component phenol hydroxylase (LmPH) gene from the phenol degrading microbial communities of an aeration tank of a coking wastewater treatment plant

Abstract: The diversity of the largest subunit of the multi-component phenol hydroxylase (LmPH) gene in four compartments of the aeration tank (O1-O4) of a coking wastewater treatment plant in Shanghai was analyzed via PCR-TGGE (temperature gradient gel electrophoresis) analysis. TGGE fingerprints were identical in all four compartments, suggesting that the phenol-degrading microbial populations in the different compartments of the aeration tank were highly similar. A LmPH gene clone library from the fourth compartment (O4) was constructed and the nucleotide sequences of 49 randomly selected clones were determined. The 49 clones were classified into 16 groups (amino acid sequences with 100% similarity were defined as one group) based on the deduced amino acid sequences. Five predominant LmPH groups were identified, each of which had more than four clones. Each of the other 11 groups were represented by one clone. Seven LmPH groups had more than 90% similarity with their nearest LmPHs in the GenBank, while 2 groups had less than 80%. Phylogenetic analysis of the partial amino acid sequences of the LmPHs indicated that most of the clones in the library (92%) were affiliated with low-Ks (affinity constants) LmPH, while only one clone (L-SJ32) was affiliated with high-Ks LmPH. These results suggest that LmPH genes were very diverse in the coking wastewater and that the low-Ks LmPHs were the predominant type involved in phenol degradation. Since most of the previously isolated phenol-degrading bacteria had high-Ks LmPHs, this indicates that traditional enrichment culture methods may not have identified the key functional bacteria from this environment.

Abstract: Sister Mary Joseph’s nodule (SMJN) refers to a metastatic tumor of the umbilicus. It is a rare entity which arises from a malignancy in the intra-abdominal cavity. We herein describe a patient who presented with SMJN as his first sign of pancreatic cancer. It is an even more unusual case of SMJN. We therefore, suggest that pancreatic cancer should be included in the differential diagnosis when an umbilical mass is found. With the progress made in surgical procedures and other modalities, an early diagnosis will dramatically improve the prognosis of the patients.
Innate immune response to dengue virus

Abstract: Dengue fever/dengue hemorrhagic fever (DF/DHF) has emerged as the most important mosquito-borne viral diseases in tropical areas. DF/DHF is one of the problems which severely threaten public-health world-wide. To understand innate immune response of the body to pathogens is of significant significance in controlling dengue virus infection. The invasion of the virus to the host cell is the first and critical stage in the infectious process and the mechanism and identity of cellular proteins involved in this process remain largely unknown. Interstitial dendritic cells (DCs) are target cells for DF and also believed to constitute the first line of the innate host defense against invasion of dengue viruses. There are two innate immune pathways that activate the host innate immunity against viral infection. One of the pathways utilizes members of the Toll-like receptor (TLR) family to detect viruses that enter the endosome through endocytosis and induce production of interferon (IFN) by signal protein, and finally activates translation factors such as NF-κB, interferon regulatory factor (IRF) 7 and IRF5. The other antiviral pathway involves the RNA helicase RIG-I as the receptor for intracellular viral double-stranded RNA (dsRNA). The closely related microRNA (miRNA) and RNAi pathways have emerged as important regulators of virus–host cell interactions.
Protein Phosphatase Magnesium-Dependent 1δ (PPM1D) mRNA Expression Is a Prognosis Marker for Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Abstract: Background Protein phosphatase magnesium-dependent 1δ (PPM1D) is an oncogene, overexpressed in many solid tumors, including ovarian cancer and breast cancer. The current study examined the expression and the prognostic value of PPM1D mRNA in human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Methods Total RNA was extracted from 86 HCC and paired non-cancerous liver tissues. PPM1D mRNA expression was determined by real-time quantitative reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (qPCR). Immunohistochemistry assay was used to verify the expression of ppm1d protein in the HCC and non-cancerous liver tissues. HCC patients were grouped according to PPM1D mRNA expression with the average PPM1D mRNA level in non-cancerous liver tissue samples as the cut-off. Correlations between clinicopathologic variables, overall survival and PPM1D mRNA expression were analyzed. Findings PPM1D mRNA was significantly higher in HCC than in the paired non-cancerous tissue (p<0.01). This was confirmed by ppm1d staining. 56 patients were classified as high expression group and the other 30 patients were categorized as low expression group. There were significant differences between the two groups in term of alpha-fetoprotein (α-FP) level (p<0.01), tumor size (p<0.01), TNM stage (p<0.01), recurrence incidence (p<0.01) and family history of liver cancer (p<0.01). The current study failed to find significant differences between the two groups in the following clinical characteristics: age, gender, portal vein invasion, lymphnode metastasis, hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection and alcohol intake. Survival time of high expression group was significantly shorter than that of low expression group (median survival, 13 months and 32 months, respectively, p<0.01). Conclusion Up-regulation of PPM1D mRNA was associated with progressive pathological feature and poor prognosis in HCC patients. PPM1D mRNA may serve as a prognostic marker in HCC.
Regional difference of land use/cover change in farming-pasturing zone of Naiman Banner in Inner Mongolia.

Abstract: Based on the four TM images of Naiman Banner in Inner Mongolia in 1975, 1985, 1995 and 2005, the extent and relative rate of land use change were used as the indices to analyze the regional difference of land use/cover change in the farming-pasturing zone of Naiman Banner, and the indices abundance and importance value were adopted to analyze the spatial distribution features of land use/cover change in the study area. The results showed that from 1975 to 2005, the types of land use/cover became diversified. The annual change rate was high, and the regional difference was significant. In the northern alluvial plain sub-area, woodland area increased rapidly and largely, while sandy land area decreased obviously. The changing speed of the areas of meadow and sandy land was the fastest, while that of residential area was the slowest. The main forms of land conversion were the conversion from sandy land to cropland and woodland. In the middle sandy land sub-area, sandy land had a wide distribution. The changes of other land use types were comparatively small, and the main form of land conversion was the inter-conversion between cropland and sandy land. In southern loess sub-area, cropland was the dominant land use type and had the smallest change, meadow and sandy land changed most quickly, and the conversion from meadow to cropland and woodland was the most important land conversion form. Natural factors determined the principal characteristics of land use structure in each sub-area of the study area, and artificial factors determined the changing trends of each land use type in each sub-area.

Abstract: 分析了分析尺度对祁连山地区0.61 m分辨率的QuickBird影像目视解译数据提取的影响.景观水平、斑块等级水平和斑块类型水平都反映,随分析尺度增大,斑块数迅速减少,形状趋于规则,景观破碎度降低,使景观结构简单化,主要是小型斑块损失引起.分析尺度对小斑块、中斑块影响大于大斑块和巨斑块.分析尺度较小时尺度效应变化速率大,分析尺度≥1:8 000后尺度效应变化减缓,尺度依赖性减小.就文中涉及的5个分析尺度而言,可划分为小于1:4 000,1:4 000~1:8 000,大于1:8 000三个尺度域,1:4 000和1:8 000是尺度阈值,1:4 000是最佳分析尺度.

Abstract: 摘要: 设H是复可分无限维Hilbert空间,B(H)为H上的有界线性算子的全体。Hilbert空间H中一个算子T称作有单值扩张性质(简写为SVEP,记作T∈(SVEP)),若对任意一个开集U∈C,满足方程(T-λI)f(λ)=0(?λ∈U)的唯一的解析函数为零函数,其中C代表复数集。T∈B(H)称为满足单值扩张性质的紧摄动,若对任意的紧算子K∈K(H),T+K满足单值扩张性质。 讨论了有界线性算子满足单值扩张性质的紧摄动的判定条件,同时给出了2×2上三角算子矩阵满足单值扩张性质的紧摄动的充要条件。
Abstract: Let H be an infinite dimensional separable complex Hilbert space and B(H) the algebra of all bounded linear operators on H. An operator T∈B(H) is said to have the single-valued extension property(SVEP for brevity, write T∈ (SVEP)), if for every open set U∈C, the only analytic solution f:U→X of the equation (T-λI)f(λ)=0 for all λ∈U is zero function on U, where C denotes the complex number set. T∈B(H) is said to have the perturbations of the single valued extension property if T+K have the single-valued extension property for every compact operator K∈K(H). The perturbations of the single valued extension property for bounded linear operators are discussed, and the sufficient necessary condition for is given 2×2 upper triangular operator matrices for which the single valued extension property is stable under compact perturbations

Abstract: 研究了高双折射光纤环镜的应变传感原理,推导了谐振波长与轴向应变的关系式,并进行了实验研究.该传感器具有很高的灵敏度:谐振波长漂移为0.031 8 nm/με,约是裸光纤光栅的32倍.谐振波长和轴向应变之间的线性拟合度为0.999 4.该传感器具有灵敏度高、结构紧凑、使用方便等优点.

Abstract: A new modified StepTransform algorithm based on CZT is provided in this paper in order to compensate for the insufficiencies of the traditional StepTransform algorithm. The order of the traditional StepTransform algorithm is changed by FFT for the fine resolution analysis on the first stage and CZT for the coarse resolution analysis on the second stage. The phenomenon of grating lobes and amplitude modulation is avoided and ideal LFM pulse compression result can be gotten in this new method. The validity and feasibility of the new algorithm is tested by the deduction of the formulation and simulation of the theory.
