“Correspondence in Meaning, Similarity in Function”: on the Significance of the Criteria of Translation Rooted in Sociosemiotics

Abstract: ‘Meaning’ and ‘function’ is the essences of language and text. The dialectical relationship between meaning and function is demonstrated in the whole process of translation so that correct understanding of the meaning and function of a text is the key to translation. Rooted in Sociosemiotics, the criteria of translation ‘correspondence in meaning, similarity in function’ by professor Chen Hongwei is scientific and practical: on the one hand, it critically inherits the traditional criterion of translation ‘faithfulness’ and ‘equivalence’ to avoid the one-sidedness and extremism of the criterion of recent western translation studies, such as those of the Skopos theory, the Receptive-aesthetics, which grant translating too much freedom to avoid distortion. On the other, it integrates the western translation studies and made a great breakthrough of the traditional criterion ‘faithfulness’ and ‘equivalence’ to justify the necessary ‘adaptation’ in translating the non-literary works, that is, texts for special purposes. Key words: Correspondence in meaning, similarity in function, multi-criterion, translation practice Résumé: la signification et la fonction sont les essences de la langue et du texte. Le rapport dialectal entre la signification et la fonction est traduit dans le processus entier de la traduction de sorte que la compréhension correcte dans la sociosemiotique, les .de la traduction. Enracinés .de la signification et de la fonction d'un texte soit la clef critéres de la traduction correspondance dans la signification, similitude dans la fonction par professeur Chen Hongwei sont scientifiques et pratiques: d'une part, ils héritent en critique du critére traditionnel 'la fidélitédes' et 'l'équivalence de traduction' pour éviter le caractère unilatéral et l'extremism du critére de la traduction occidentale récente , comme ceux de la théorie de Skopos, l'Réceptif-esthétique, qui traduisent trop de liberté pour respecter les informations. De l'autre, elle intégre les études occidentales de traduction et a fait une grande perce de 'fidélité' et 'équivalence' de critére traditionnel pour justifier 'l'adaptation nécessaire' en traduisant les ouvrages non-littéraires, c’est.-à-dire., textes pour des buts spéiaux. Abstract: Fingerprint segmentation is a crucial step in fingerprint recognition system, and determines the results of fingerprint analysis and recognition. This paper proposes an efficient approach for fingerprint segmentation based on modified fuzzy c-means (FCM). The proposed method is realized by modifying the objective function in the Szilagyi’s algorithm via introducing histogram-based weight. Experimental results show that the proposed approach has an efficient performance while segmenting both original fingerprint image and fingerprint images corrupted by different type of noises.

Abstract: In the centrosymmetric dinuclear title compound, [Cd2(C14H9O4)2Cl2(C15H11N3)2]·0.5H2O, each of the CdII ions is coordinated by three N atoms from a chelating 2,2′:6′,2′′-terpyridine ligand, two bridging Cl atoms and one O atom of a 2′-carboxy-[1,1′-biphenyl]-2-carboxylate anion. The coordination environment is distorted octahedral. In the crystal, intermolecular O—H...O hydrogen bonds link symmetry-related molecules, forming an infinite chain. The half-occupancy water molecule is disordered over two general sites with 0.25 occupancy and is, in turn, disordered over an inversion center.

Abstract: The title complex, [Cu4I4(C21H15N3)2], lies on an inversion centre located at the centroid of a four-membered ring formed by one of the crystallographically independent CuI ions and a triply bridging iodide ligand. The 2,2′:6′,2′′-terpyridine (phterpy) ligand chelates each of the independent CuI centres in a bidentate fashion, with the N atom of the central pyridyl ring bridging the two CuI centres and those of the outer pyridyl rings binding the two independent CuI ions individually to form a dinuclear system. These are further linked by triply-bridging I anions to form the centrosymmetric tetranuclear units. One independent Cu atom binds to each of the inversion-related I anions while the other coordinates to one bridging and one terminal monodentate iodide ligand. The outer pyridyl rings are twisted relative to the central pyridyl ring of the phterpy ligand with dihedral angles of 18.7 (1) and 35.6 (1)°, respectively.
Image segmentation active contour model based on nonlocal total variation

Abstract: Based on the continuous global minimizing method for the general active contour model, this paper proposed a nonlocal active contour model having continuous global minimizing solutions by using four nonlocal total variation. Due to the nonlocal property of the model proposed here, noise could be effectively removed in the course of segmentation, and the repeated fine structures could be preserved simultaneously. Numerical experiment shows this model can segment the main structures and the fine structures very well, however many small fine structures are lost in the results of the standard active contour model.
Region-based Graph Cut Algorithm for Mumford-Shah Image Segmentation Model

Abstract: An improved graph cut algorithm was proposed based on the method presented by Egil Bae and Xue-Cheng Tai for solving the Mumford-Shah image segmentation model.Firstly the original image was over-segmented using Mean Shift method.An appropriate graph was constructed on the basis of the produced small regions.Thus by finding the minimum cut over the special graph,we obtained the solution for the segmentation problem.Numerical experiments show that the segmentation results of Mean Shift algorithm are not desirable.Our method has similar results with that presented by Egil Bae and Xue-Cheng Tai.However,the computation efficiency is greatly improved.

Parallel Genetic Algorithm Based on the MPI Environment

Abstract: Current genetic algorithm require both management of huge amounts of data and heavy computation, fulfilling these requirements calls for simple ways to implement parallel computing. In this paper, serial genetic algorithm was designed to parallel GA; this technology appears to be particularly well adapted to this task. Here we introduce two related mechanism: elite reserve strategy and MPI. The first can increase the possible to get the optimal solution of the population, while the message passing interface MPI support is adding to form a new coarse-grain model of distributed parallel genetic algorithm. This new algorithm is tested by the classical and effective Knapsack problem, analysis shows that, the introduction of the parallel strategies can reduce the communication between different machines and the scheduling time of the heterogeneous system, thereby accelerate the traditional genetic algorithm search process, ultimately concluded that the parallel genetic algorithm is very promising and this framework could have a wide range of applications while maintaining good computational efficiency, scalability and ease of maintenance.
Synthesis of Carbon-coated LaFeO3 and Electrochemical Properties of the Composites in Alkaline Solution

Abstract: LaFeO3 nanostructure powders oxide was synthesized by sol-gel method and then LaFeO3/C composite materials containing different amounts of carbon were prepared by heat treatment using sucrose as a carbon source. The crystal structure, surface morphologies and electrochemical properties of the obtained composites coated with various carbon contents were investigated by the techniques of XRD, SEM, TEM, Raman spectroscope and electrochemical method. It was found that single phase nanostructure with perovskite-type LaFeO3 was obtained by Sol-Gel method and the crystal structure of LaFeO3/C could not be changed after coating carbon. Under high temperature, sourose was decomposed into amorphous carbon, which coated on the surface of LaFeO3 particles and formed network-like structure between LaFeO3 particles. Electrochemical measurements showed that the carbon- coated composites were superior in the electrochemical performance to the LaFeO3. LaFeO3/C electrodes possessed high discharge capacities, among which the sample adding with 5wt% carbon had the largest discharge capacity of 390 mAh/g. With increasing amount of carbon coated, the exchange current density I0 significantly enhanced, while effect of the coated carbon on the diffusion coefficient of ions was not obvious.
TNF -308 G/A Polymorphism and Risk of Acne Vulgaris: A Meta-Analysis

Abstract: Background The -308 G/A polymorphism in the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) gene has been implicated in the risk of acne vulgaris, but the results are inconclusive. The present meta-analysis aimed to investigate the overall association between the -308 G/A polymorphism and acne vulgaris risk. Methods We searched in Pubmed, Embase, Web of Science and CNKI for studies evaluating the association between the -308 G/A gene polymorphism and acne vulgaris risk. Data were extracted and statistical analysis was performed using STATA 12.0 software. Results A total of five publications involving 1553 subjects (728 acne vulgaris cases and 825 controls) were included in this meta-analysis. Combined analysis revealed a significant association between this polymorphism and acne vulgaris risk under recessive model (OR = 2.73, 95% CI: 1.37–5.44, p = 0.004 for AA vs. AG + GG). Subgroup analysis by ethnicity showed that the acne vulgaris risk associated with the -308 G/A gene polymorphism was significantly elevated among Caucasians under recessive model (OR = 2.34, 95% CI: 1.13–4.86, p = 0.023). Conclusion This meta-analysis suggests that the -308 G/A polymorphism in the TNF gene contributes to acne vulgaris risk, especially in Caucasian populations. Further studies among different ethnicity populations are needed to validate these findings.
