Determination of okadaic acid related toxins from shellfish (sinonovacula constricta) by high performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry  [PDF]

Consumption of shellfish contaminated with algal toxins produced by marine dinoflagellates can lead to diarrhetic shellfish poisoning (DSP). It was therefore essential that there are analytical techniques to identify and quantify DSP toxins in shellfish. This new methodology could facilitate DSP monitoring and create a means of rapidly responding to incidents threatening public health. In the last years there were different analytical methods for DSP, such as mouse bioassay and LC-FLD. With the development of instrument, Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry was substituted for other analytical methods with its good sensitivity and selectivity and without derivatization for the determination of DSP. In this report, a high performance liquid chromatogra-phytandem mass spectrometric(HPLC-MS/MS)method was developed for the simultaneous determination of okadaic acid (OA) and dinophysistoxins(DTX1) in Sinonovacula constricta. Optimization of pretreatment experiment was carried out to maximize recoveries and the effectiveness. The analytes were determined under multi-reactions monitoring (MRM) scan type with tandem mass analyzer using negative ion electrospray ionization (-ESI) mode .Finally, the detection and identification of OA and DTX-1 were based upon their retention times (RT) and the fragmentation patterns of their mass spectra. The method of LOQ for the two poisons was 0.02 mg·kg-1.The real sample test showed that this method could be used for sensitive, fast, and accurate determination of the two diarrheic shellfish poisons in shellfish.

A Simple 2D Non-Parametric Resampling Statistical Approach to Assess Confidence in Species Identification in DNA Barcoding—An Alternative to Likelihood and Bayesian Approaches

Abstract: In the recent worldwide campaign for the global biodiversity inventory via DNA barcoding, a simple and easily used measure of confidence for assigning sequences to species in DNA barcoding has not been established so far, although the likelihood ratio test and the Bayesian approach had been proposed to address this issue from a statistical point of view. The TDR (Two Dimensional non-parametric Resampling) measure newly proposed in this study offers users a simple and easy approach to evaluate the confidence of species membership in DNA barcoding projects. We assessed the validity and robustness of the TDR approach using datasets simulated under coalescent models, and an empirical dataset, and found that TDR measure is very robust in assessing species membership of DNA barcoding. In contrast to the likelihood ratio test and Bayesian approach, the TDR method stands out due to simplicity in both concepts and calculations, with little in the way of restrictive population genetic assumptions. Chiral d-wave superfluid in periodically driven lattices

Abstract: Chiral d-wave superfluid is a preliminary example of topological matters that intrinsically encodes interaction effects. It exhibits fascinating properties including a finite Chern number in the bulk and topologically protected edge states, which have been invoking physicists for decades. However, unlike s-wave superfluids prevalent in nature, its existence requires a strong interaction in the d-wave channel, a criterion that is difficult to access in ordinary systems. So far, such an unconventional superfluid has not been discovered in experiments. Here, we present a new principle for creating a two-dimensional chiral d-wave superfluid using periodically driven lattices. Due to an imprinted two-dimensional pseudospin-orbit coupling, where the sublattice index serves as the pseudospin, s-wave interaction between two hyperfine spin states naturally creates a chiral d-wave superfluid. This scheme also allows physicists to study the phase transition between the topologically distinct s- and d-wave superfluids by controlling the driving field or the particle density.

Abstract: Automatic container code recognition(CCR) plays an important role in custom logistics and transport management.This paper proposes an algorithm for container character location and recognition based on image segmentation and region feature analysis.First,an improved single-pass split-merge image segmentation algorithm is used to segment image based on adaptive threshold,and features of every region are obtained simultaneously.Next,character regions are separated from non-character regions by rules.Finally,model match and neural network are used to recognize every character binary region.Experimental results on 1 804 container images show that the overall accuracy can reach 97.01%(1 750 images) with the proposed algorithms.
Reversible cardiogenic shock caused by atrioventricular junctional rhythm after percutaneous coronary intervention

Abstract: An 82-year-old female patient undergoing cardiogenic shock caused by atrioventricular junctional rhythm immediately after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is described. Pharmacotherapy was invalid, and subsequent application of atrial pacing reversed the cardiogenic shock. PCI-related injury of sinuatrial nodal artery leading to acute atrial contractility loss, accompanied by atrioventricular junctional arrhythmia, was diagnosed. We recommend that preoperative risk evaluation be required for multi-risk patients. Likewise, emergent measures should to be established in advance. This case reminds us that atrial pacing can be an optimal management technique once cardiogenic shock has occurred.

Equilibrium of population and economic development in the top ten urban agglomerations in China

Abstract: For the top ten urban agglomerations in China including Yangtze River Delta and Pearl River Delta, we calculated urban economic Gini indices and urban scale Gini indices, and judged the equilibrium of population and economic development after evaluation of Gini quotient indices. The results suggest that the degree of economic concentration of ten urban agglomerations is greater than the degree of population concentration. Secondly, the equilibria of population and economic development in top ten urban agglomerations are significantly different. Finally, regional differentiation features of the equilibrium of population and economic development in ten urban agglomerations are not obvious. In the following aspects, such as location factors, urban economy development, urbanization, urbanization approach, the population movement, management system and so on, we analyze the influencing factors.
