Abstract: A rapid and sensitive method was developed and validated using a normal phase liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) for determination of propranolol enantiomers in pharmaceuticals. Sample preparation involved a single extraction step by the addition of methanol. Separation of propranolol enantiomers was achieved on a Chiralcel OD-H chiral column using a mobile phase consisting of n-hexane-ethanol-ammonia (70:30:0.4, v/v/v), and the flow rate was 0.40 mL/min for 20 min. The analyte was monitored by tandem mass spectrometry with electrospray positive ionization in multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) mode, using the transitions of m/z 260.2→116.0. Propranolol enantiomers can be completely separated. The linear range was 2.5~1000 μg/L, and the limit of quantification (LOQ) was 2.5 μg/L. The values for within day and between day precisions and accuracies were well within the generally accepted criteria for analytical methods. The relative standard deviations (RSDs) were less than 2.64%, and the recoveries of the two enantiomers were 99.08%~102.58% and 100.21%~103.16%, respectively. The separation method is accurate, convenient, reliable, efficient, and can be subsequently used for quality control of propranolol enantiomers in pharmaceuticals.

Abstract: The possibility of applying steel slag as mineral admixture in steam-cured concrete was investigated. The compressive strength, chloride permeability, carbonation depth and drying shrinkage of concrete and the microstructure characteristics of hardened paste were studied. Results show that the steam-cured concrete containing steel slag at a high water-to-binder ratio has low compressive strength, coarse pore structure, moderate permeability, large carbonation depth and great drying shrinkage. The negative effects of steel slag on the mechanical and durability performance of steam-cured concrete become smaller at a low water-to-binder ratio or by adding ultrafine ground granulated blast furnace slag(UGGBS). The later-age hydration of cement is significantly promoted by adding steel slag. The pozzolanic reaction and micro-filler effect of UGGBS result in dense structure, which makes great contribution to the strength development and durability performance of steam-cured concrete. These effects of steel slag and UGGBS are significant at a low water to binder ratio. The steam-cured concrete containing steel slag-UGGBS blended mineral admixture at a low water-to-binder ratio has the best performance with high compressive strength, fine pore structure and good durability.
An Efficient and Concise Algorithm for Convex Quadratic Programming and Its Application to Markowitz’s Portfolio Selection Model  [PDF]
Zhongzhen Zhang, Huayu Zhang
Technology and Investment (TI) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/ti.2011.24024
Abstract: This paper presents a pivoting-based method for solving convex quadratic programming and then shows how to use it together with a parameter technique to solve mean-variance portfolio selection problems.
Investigation and Analysis of Sexual Harassment in Corporate Workplace of China  [PDF]
Xiaobing Zhang, Zewei Zhang
Sociology Mind (SM) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/sm.2012.23038
Abstract: At present, sexual harassment in domestic workplace has a high probability of occurrence, which causes more and more attention. In this paper, the form of sexual harassment in workplace, and how to solve the sexual harassment were investigated and analyzed through questionnaires; and countermeasures and management suggestions were put forward from three aspects of corporate, employees and family.
Chaos Control in a Discrete Ecological System  [PDF]
Limin Zhang, Chaofeng Zhang
International Journal of Modern Nonlinear Theory and Application (IJMNTA) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/ijmnta.2012.13011
Abstract: In research [1], the authors investigate the dynamic behaviors of a discrete ecological system. The period-double bifurcations and chaos are found in the system. But no strategy is proposed to control the chaos. It is well known that chaos control is the first step of utilizing chaos. In this paper, a controller is designed to stabilize the chaotic orbits and enable them to be an ideal target one. After that, numerical simulations are presented to show the correctness of theoretical analysis.
Crystallization and Characterization of a New Fluorescent Molecule Based on Schiff Base  [PDF]
Dehua Zhang, Xiaoyan Zhang
Journal of Crystallization Process and Technology (JCPT) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/jcpt.2013.31004

In this analysis, the single crystal of schiff base has been synthesized and the purity of material has been increased by repeated recrystallization process. Single crystal was grown by adopting the method growing in a slow evaporation solution using ethanol as solvent at room temperature. A new fluorescent molecule based on Schiff base has been synthesised and its binding properties investigated by fluorescence spectroscopy to show that it can selectively bind Cu2+ with fluorescence quenching.

Mathematical Reasoning of Economic Intervening Principle Based on “Yin Yang Wu Xing” Theory in Traditional Chinese Economics (I)  [PDF]
Ziqing Zhang, Yingshan Zhang
Modern Economy (ME) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/me.2013.42016

By using mathematical reasoning, this paper demonstrates the economic intervening principle: “Virtual disease is to fill his mother but real disease is to rush down his son” and “ Strong inhibition of the same time, support the weak” based on “Yin Yang Wu Xing” Theory in Traditional Chinese Economics (TCE). We defined generalized relations and generalized reasoning, introduced the concept of steady multilateral systems with two non-compatibility relations, and discussed its energy properties. Later based on the intervening principle of TCE and treated the economic society as a steady multilateral system, it has been proved that the intervening principle above is true. The kernel of this paper is the existence and reasoning of the non-compatibility relations in steady multilateral systems, and it accords with the oriental thinking model.

Influence Factor Analysis on Strength of Lime-Fly Ash Loess  [PDF]
Yufen Zhang, Zhiquan Zhang
Engineering (ENG) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/eng.2013.56068
Abstract: Lime-fly ash loess is composed of fly ash, lime and loess. It is a new material in subgrade backfill. Main factors to influence the strength of lime-fly ash loess are age, amount of fly ash and lime, ratio of fly ash to lime (1:K), and moisture content. In order to observe the effect of each factor influencing the strength of lime-fly ash loess and find out the relationship between each other, this paper adopted orthogonal test design to conduct unconfined compression tests. The result shows that 90d strength can be considered to calculate the strength of lime-fly ash loess in practice. And the most important factor to influence the 90d strength of lime-fly ash loess is the amount of fly ash and lime, the second is moisture content, and then is the ratio of fly ash to lime (1:K). These achievements are significant to the design and application of lime-fly ash loess in subgrade construction of loess areas.
Psychological Characteristics of Entrepreneurship of College Students in China  [PDF]
Hua Zhang, Ying Zhang
Psychology (PSYCH) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2013.43023

The study investigated the psychological characteristics of entrepreneurship of 829 college students in Chinaby questionnaire. The psychological characteristics include five aspects: entrepreneurial capacity, entrepreneurial belief, entrepreneurial consciousness, entrepreneurial motivation, and entrepreneurial determination. In the five factors, the entrepreneurial consciousness of college students is the highest, and the other four are almost at the same level. There is significant difference on entrepreneurial belief, consciousness, and motivation in different gender of students. Also there is significant difference on entrepreneurial consciousness in different major students and on entrepreneurial motivation in different degree students. However, the college students only with high entrepreneurial consciousness are not enough to succeed in business. The other four psychological characteristics are not only essential to entrepreneurship, but also necessary to their future professional development. College students should have a lot of preparation and accumulation on the other four psychological characteristics of entrepreneurship, and give much more effort to improve them.
