Comparison of right-handed and left-handed dental students in measurement of periodontal pocket depth
Allahyari S,Kadkhoda Z
Journal of Dental Medicine , 2011,
Abstract: "nBackground and Aims: The precision of periodontal pocket measurements with periodontal probe is related to different factors. Some of these are related to examiner. The purpose of this study was to compare the right-handed and left-handed dental students in the measurement of periodontal pocket depth (PPD)."nMaterials and Methods: Eight systemically healthy adult patients (mean age of 35 years) with 0.5-6 mm periodontal pocket depth and a minimum of 20 teeth were examined by 4 right-handed and 4 left-handed students of dentistry (mean age of 25 years). These students were trained for periodontal examination probe depth measurements with Williams probe. Measurements were inserted in SPSS software and analyzed with Iintraclass correlation coefficient (ICCS) and T-test."nResults: There was statistically significant difference in the measurement of PPD between right-handed and left-handed examiners in the whole mouth (P<0.05), but this difference (0.08 mm) was not clinically significant. The most difference was found in the posterior teeth of mandible at right quadrant (mean=0.2 mm). Analyses of each pair of same handed and different handed examiners with T-test and ICCS showed that these measurements were nearly similar and reproducible."nConclusion: There was no clinically significant difference in measurement of PPD between right-handed and left-handed examiners.

Abstract: The current study aimed to investigate the role of assertiveness and self-assertion in emotional self-regulation of female students. The statistical population included all second period female high school students in Jalagh, in the academic year 2014-2015, among which 200 students were selected using census method. This was a descriptive-correlational study. To collect data, Assertion Inventory (Gambrill & Richie, 1975) and Cognitive-Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (Garnefski et al., 2001) were used. To analyze the obtained data, both descriptive (mean, standard deviation) and inferential statistics (Pearson correlation coefficient and regression analysis) were applied, using SPSS. The results indicated that all subscales of emotional self-regulation were significantly related to assertiveness and self-assertion.

I Allahyari,F Alhany
Iranian Journal of Pediatrics , 2006,
Abstract: Background: Pain control is the main concern in improving the quality of medical care in children. Injection is one of the painful procedures done on the child in hospital. The goal of this research was to evaluate the problems nurses encounter in using methods to reduce injection pain in children. Methods: The present study is a descriptive-analytic done with cooperation of 30 nurses working in pediatric units of two hospitals of Tehran city with a job experience of at least three months. The instrument used in this study included two questionnaires: 1) Demographic information, 2) Nurses’ view about the existent obstacles in using methods of reducing injection pain in children. Findings: 100% of the study samples were female and held a BS degree in nursing. They aged between 22-24 and more than 80% of them had more than one year of experience in pediatric department. The results obtained through the questionnaire on the nurse’ view about the existent obstacles in using methods of reducing injection pain in children, show that in personal-management dimension “the lack of time and the unproportional number of nurses to number of patients”, in educational dimension “the unavailability of pain measurement instruments”, in environmental-equipment dimension "the lack of enough toys and entertainment to use the injection pain reducing methods to children” and finally in motivational dimension ”the undue satisfaction of the nurses regarding the working hours and shifts”, have been named as number-one problems. Conclusions: the results of the present study show that in using methods to reduce the injection pain in children, nurses face different problems in different aspects. The analysis of data of the present study indicates that the most salient solution to remove this problem is to form pain-control nurse committees in the hospital.
ASSESSMENT OF GESTATIONAL AGE BASED ON ULTRASONIC FEMUR LENGTH OF FETUS
M. Honarvar,?M. Allahyari
Acta Medica Iranica , 1999,
Abstract: The ultrasonic measurement of the fetal femur length is a sensitive and precise variable for estimation of fetal growth and development. Tlte objective of this study was to predict gestational age in fetuses older ttian twenty-four weeks of gestation by ultrasonic measurement of the femur length. In this study, pregnant mothers were identified by the criteria of normality, such as well-known LMP, regular menstrual cycles, no use of oral contraceptive pills for the prior 3 months, no smoking, no history of diabetes. The relation between gestational age and fetal femur length was determined by cross-sectional analysis of 900 normal fetuses (> 25 weeks) using real -time ultrasonography. Mathematical modeling of the data demonstrated that the femur growth curve is always linear beyond 24 weeks of gestation. Tlte following regression equation was derived : GA (week) = 5.2 FL (cm) + 2, SD ±5 days (Honarvar's Formula 2). According to this data, the error in estimation of GA for given FL is less tlian 6 days. Tiiis equation appears to be clinically reliable and easy to use. Previous normal ultrasonic fetal femur length curves for otlicr populations may underestimate or overestimate normal fetal age for Iranian population.
