Predictive model for the cold rolling process through sensitivity factors via neural networks

Abstract: the mathematical modeling of the rolling process involves several parameters that may lead to non-linear equations of difficult analytical solution. such is the case of alexander's model (alexander 1972), considered one of the most complete in the rolling theory. this model requires excessive computational time, which prevents its application in on-line control and supervision systems. in this paper, the representation of the cold rolling process through neural networks trained with data obtained by alexander's model is presented. this representation is based in sensitivity factors obtained by differentiating a neural network previously trained. the representation allows to obtain equations of the process for different operation points with low computational time. on the other hand, the representation based in sensitivity factors has predictive characteristics that can be used in predictive control techniques. through predictive model, it is possible to eliminate the time delay in the feedback loop introduced by measurements of the outgoing thickness, normally with x-ray sensors. the predictive model can work as a virtual sensor implemented via software. an example of the application to a single stand rolling mill is presented.

Abstract: the single stand rolling mill governing equation is a non-linear function on several parameters (input thickness, front and back tensions, yield stress and friction coefficient among others). any alteration in one of them will cause alterations on the rolling load and, consequently, on the outgoing thickness. this paper presents a method to determinate the appropriate adjustment for thickness control considering three possible control parameters: roll gap, front and back tensions. the method uses a predictive model based in the sensitivity equation of the process, where the sensitivity factors are obtained by differentiating a neural network previously trained. the method considers as the best control action the one that demands the smallest adjustment. one of the capital issues in the controller design for rolling systems is the difficulty to measure the final thickness without time delays. the time delay is a consequence of the location of the outgoing thickness sensor that is always placed to some distance to the front of the roll gap. the proposed control system calculates the necessary adjustment based on a predictive model for the output thickness. this model permits to overcome the time delay that exists in such processes and can eliminate the thickness sensor, usually based on x-ray. simulation results show the viability of the proposed technique.

Abstract: organisational history is founded on administration, its disciplinary structure, its interaction with other branches of learning. this article centres its attention on entrepreneurial history, a discipline with its roots lying in administration and other disciplines such as economic history and economics. some notes are therefore made regarding the concept of entrepreneurial history. these include its object of study and its methodological body, transpiring that this discipline approaches realities related to the evolution of companies and entrepreneurs (avoiding becoming involved in really historical studies) without taking purely organisational or administrative aspects into account, as it is centred on the figure of the entrepreneur as the main economic actor. the methodology employed detects serious flaws estranging it from historical method and scientific research. regarding this, two ways are indicated of overcoming such situations. there is the model of comparative company history (the work of alfred chandler), given its closeness to processes of historical research into entrepreneurial production management configurations in european and north-american companies. there is also the model of a new type of history, apprehensive of organisational historic reality, underlining the role of all its shaping influences and phenomena lying between history and administration.
What Followers Want from Their Leaders: An Analytical Perspectivas

Abstract: many researchers and others interested in the field of leadership have written about the characteristics and styles of leadership; however, few have written about what followers want from their leaders. this paper addresses the issue of what followers desire in those they follow, it will assert that the basic characteristics followers want from their leaders are honesty, forward-looking, inspiring, and competency. also, followers want to trust in their leaders and they want leaders who care about them, which is shown in the leaders seeing the followers as partners. this paper also compares what international studies found about this leader-follower dynamic with a study made by colegio de estudios superiores de administracion - cesa where leaders were asked about the main characteristics of an organizational leader. the analysis shows that followers want to commit to their leaders. they want to know that there is a relationship between them. as mentioned by winston (2002), the relationship between leader and follower has to have the same commitment that exists between husband and wife. in addition, this paper presents the conceptual framework of the analysis and the leadership models that fit more with what followers want from their leaders which are transformational and charismatic leadership.

Abstract: persons who undergo accidental burning suffer severe traumatic effects, all the more so when these victims are children. this article deals with the psychological and psychoanalytic task of accompanying such persons at the burned patients unit at the guadalajara civil hospital, in mexico. the theoretical and methodological aspects upon which the intervention is based is then discussed, as well as the importance of the transferential relationship, play activities, the free expression of affects and the teamwork involved in reducing the traumatic impact of the accident.

Abstract: an analysis of any public discourse is not complete without addressing the basic task of distinguishing between the kinds of opinions expressed by the "speakers." there are opinions about what is factual and what is feasible both in terms of events, and in terms of human actions, about the value of the factual and the feasible, and about the decision-making process. this distinction is important because every type of opinion requires different kinds of arguments. it is also necessary to weigh the rhetorical importance and pertinence of these opinions in the debate. these elementary responsibilities in rhetorical analysis are illustrated in this article using the public discourse about migration between mexico and the united states.

Abstract: we briefly revise the economic resources that the state allocated between the years 2000 and 2005, and their relationship with the production of research projects. in face of the few fiscal resources, innovations are proposed to the traditional research model, sustained in producing new products. assuming it is possible to perform innovations in the process of producing a service or a product, which implies modifying the regional and national policies, driving the model proposed by p. drucker of producing innovations with technology with t in capital letters, would on turn generate patents and social and economic profitability.

Abstract: the growing burden of healthcare costs has created an urgent need to econo-mically appraise health interventions in order to prioritise those which offer better value for money in the local context. the aim of this article is to provide some basic principles of economic evaluations which will improve physicians? understanding of the methodology involved in this type of analysis and will also help to show how their clinical practice relates to the economics of healthcare financing. some of the main concepts describe is this paper include the definition and classification of economic evaluations in healthcare (i.e. cost-minimization, cost-effectiveness, cost-utility and cost-beneft) and a brief description of a cost-effectiveness plane.
Motivación Intrínseca Laboral y su relación con las variables de personalidad Orientación a la Meta y Tesón

Abstract: Se indagó la relación entre la Motivación Intrínseca Laboral con las variables de personalidad Orientación a la Meta y Tesón (conscientiousness), a fin de reemplazar la variable Necesidad de Crecimiento del Modelo Motivacional propuesto por Hackman y Oldham (1980). Los instrumentos se aplicaron a una muestra de empleados (N = 228) de una empresa textil per tenecientes a 60 cargos diferentes. Los resultados mostraron que la Motivación Intrínseca Laboral presentaba una relación positiva con la Orientación a la Meta centrada en el Aprendizaje (r = 0.43; p < ,01). Finalmente se proporciona sugerencias para una futura investigación sobre el tema, y con fines de aplicación en el ámbito de la administración de los Recursos Humanos.
