Delay-Range-Dependent Control for Automatic Mooring Positioning System with Time-Varying Input Delay

Abstract: Aiming at the economy and security of the positioning system in semi-submersible platform, the paper presents a new scheme based on the mooring line switching strategy. Considering the input delay in switching process, control with time-varying input delay is designed to calculate the control forces to resist disturbing forces. In order to reduce the conservativeness, the information of the lower bound of delay is taken into account, and a Lyapunov function which contains the range of delay is constructed. Besides, the input constraint is considered to avoid breakage of mooring lines. The sufficient conditions for delay-range-dependent stabilization are derived in terms of LMI, and the controller is also obtained. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is illustrated by a realistic design example. 1. Introduction For oil and gas exploration in waters deeper than 300 meters, floating platforms such as drillship and semisubmersible platforms are used. These platforms must be kept at a desired location accurately to accomplish the exploration tasks, so it is important to design appropriate positioning system. Dynamic positioning (DP) and mooring positioning system have been used for many years [1]. S?rensen et al. researched the thruster-assisted position mooring (PM) based on DP [2, 3]. The mooring system provides effectively passive control in moderate weather conditions, while the thruster can perform active control to assist the mooring system in severe environmental conditions. So, PM is often considered to be the most cost-effective and feasible positioning method. However, PM also has some shortcomings. Compared with mooring system, although the positioning precision is improved, the cost of initial construction, usage, and maintenance is increased. Compared with DP system, the maneuverability is decreased. So, the first motivation of this paper is to propose a new positioning scheme, which not only improves the positioning precision, but also needs no extra hardware devices in order to ensure economy. Compared with the conventional mooring system, the new scheme adds active mooring line release control to improve the positioning accuracy and uses four three-sprocket windlasses instead of twelve single-sprocket windlasses to control twelve mooring lines release based on mooring line switching. Abstract: While there is increasingly strategic importance in knowledge, it is facing new challenges to manage knowledge effectively. The paper studies the motivational construct model for knowledge sharing from the perspective of content theories and social motivation theories. The data collected by using the questionnaire survey from a variety of industries was analyzed on the basis of interviews and pretest. The results of exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) showed the motivational construct model for knowledge sharing was comprised of existence motivation, relatedness motivation, growth motivation and norm motivation. The results extended the perspectives for knowledge sharing motivation and provided theoretical evidences for facilitating knowledge sharing behavior.
Multi-objective Optimization of Multi-Agent Elevator Group Control System Based on Real-time Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm  [PDF]

Abstract: In order to get a globally optimized solution for the Elevator Group Control System (EGCS) scheduling problem, an algorithm with an overall optimization function is needed. In this study, Real-time Particle Swarm Optimization (RPSO) is proposed to find an optimal solution to the EGCS scheduling problem. Different traffic patterns and controller mechanisms for EGCS are analyzed. This study focuses on up-peak traffic because of its critical importance to modern office buildings. Simulation results show that EGCS based on Multi-Agent Systems (MAS) using RPSO gives good results for up-peak EGCS scheduling problem. Besides, the elevator real-time scheduling and reallocation functions are realized based on RPSO in case new information is available or the elevator becomes busy because it is unavailable or full. This study contributes a new scheduling algorithm for EGCS, and expands the application of PSO.

The Allocation of Family Guanxi-Oriented Control Rights
—Evidence from Family Listed Companies of Zhejiang China

Different from the market-oriented control mechanism in British and American, the guanxi-oriented control mechanism is a significant feature in Chinese family business. This paper proposes the concept of family guanxi-oriented control rights allocation for the first time. Based on the analysis about the influencing factors of the family guanxi-oriented control rights allocation, we use the sample companies coming from Zhejiang province of China to do further discussion. We find that 1) the actual controllers of Zhejiang family listed companies mainly have blood relationship; 2) parts of companies allocate the control rights between the family members who have more than three kinds of guanxi; 3) the controlling families prefer to control the board of the listed companies; 4) the intergenerational succession of control rights in Zhejiang family listed companies has been highlighted.

Abstract: This paper presents the methods and techniques used in the recently developed JKMRC/FEI Mineral Liberation Analyser (MLA). The MLA system consists of a specially developed software package and a standard modern SEM fitted with an energy dispersive spectrum (EDS) analyser. The on-line program of the MLA software package controls the SEM, captures sample images, performs necessary image analysis and acquires EDS x-ray spectra unattended. Typically, 40 to 100 images (containing 4000 to 10,000 particles) are acquired for each sample block and a dozen blocks (of 30 mm in diameter) are measured overnight. The MLA off-line processing program transforms raw particle image with x-ray data into particle mineral maps and calculates bulk and liberation data from particle mineral maps.
Optimal Cross-Sectional Shape of Gas/Air Ducts  [PDF]

In industrial plants, ships, and buildings, a large amount of gas and air ducts are applied for equipment connection, HVAC, medium transport, and exhaust, etc. These ducts can be designed in varied cross-sectional shapes, such as round or rectangle. The author reveals through geometric calculation of the duct cross-sectional shapes and engineering experiences that the round cross-section is an optimal shape in the duct system. The round duct has the shorter perimeter than the other cross-sectional shape ducts and the stronger structure in the same working condition. The material saving of the round duct due to the shorter perimeter is quantitatively determined. In the pater, it is shown that the round duct is economically attractive. The economic analysis for the material cost saving is illustrated by an example. For a long duct system, the material and material cost savings are significant. It is suggested that the round duct in the gas and air duct system should have priority as long as the field conditions are allowed. In the paper, the material cost saving is also converted to PW, AW, and FW used for LCC economic analysis.

Abstract: This review paper explores the motivational processes in physical education related to physical activity and health-related quality of life among children and adolescents. First, we review the existing body of literature relating to children’s health-related quality of life. Next, we present the expectancy-value model of achievement choice as a framework for investigating how children’s motivation in physical activity settings interacts with physical activity and health-related quality of life. In the following section, we discuss social-contextual factors within the motivational climate, and how they can enhance or constrain decisions to be physically active and influence health-related quality of life. We conclude by identifying emerging research issues, implications for practice, and suggestions for future research directions.
