Abstract: The recent progress in search for T-violating transverse muon polarization in the decays K^+ --> pi^0 mu^+ nu and K^+ --> mu^+ nu gamma in the on-going experiment E246 at KEK is reported. Future prospects in polarization measurements are also discussed.

Abstract: The performance of the photon detector constructed for the search of T-violation in the decay K^+ -> pi^0 mu^+ nu is presented. The specific features of this detector consisting of 768 CsI(Tl) crystals with PIN photodiode readout for high precision measurement of T-odd correlations in the decays of positive kaons are considered.

Abstract: We study the potential of the measurement of the transverse muon polarization P_T in the K->mu nu gamma decay with the sensitivity of \delta P_T ~ 10^{-4}. It is shown that the forthcoming experiment can measure the contribution of the electromagnetic final state interactions to P_T that gives a possibility to unambiguously determine the signs of the sum of the kaon form factors F_V and F_A even without fixing their difference. We also estimate the sensitivity of this experiment to the new physics, which could give rise to T-violation: multi-Higgs doublet models, supersymmetric extensions of the Standard Model, left-right symmetric model and leptoquark models.
Pinning down the kaon form factors in K^+ -> mu^+ nu_mu gamma decay

Abstract: We find that the normal muon polarization in the decay K->mu nu_mu gamma is very sensitive to the values of the kaon vector F_V and axial-vector F_A form factors. It is shown that the ongoing KEK-E246 experiment can definitely determine the signs of the sum of the form factors if their difference is fixed from other considerations. This method can also verify the form factor values and signs obtained from the K^+ -> l^+ nu_l e^+ e^- decays. A new experiment with sensitivity to the normal and transverse muon polarizations of about 10^-4 will provide a unique possibility to determine the F_V and F_A values with a few percent accuracy.

Abstract: We calculate the transverse muon polarization in the decay $K^{\pm}\to\pi^0\mu^{\pm}\nu$ induced by the electromagnetic two-photon final-state interaction. For the central part of the Dalitz plot the typical value of this polarization is about $4\times 10^{-6}$.

Abstract: We report the results of the measurement of T-violating transverse muon polarization in the decays K^+ --> pi^0 mu^+ nu and K^+ --> mu^+ nu gamma performed in the experiment E246 at KEK. Preliminary results obtained for the entire data set taken in the period 1996-2000 are consistent with no T-violation in both decays.

Abstract: We have studied the possibility of using Geiger mode multi-pixel photodiodes to read out long scintillator bars with a single wavelength-shifting fiber embedded along the bar. This detector configuration can be used in large volume detectors in future long baseline neutrino oscillation experiments. Prototype bars of 0.7 cm thickness and different widths have been produced and tested using two types of multi-pixel photodiodes: MRS APD (CPTA, Moscow) and MPPC (Hamamatsu). A minimum light yield of 7.2 p.e./MeV was obtained for a 4 cm wide bar.

Abstract: The calorimeter, range detector and active target elements of the T2K near detectors rely on the Hamamatsu Photonics Multi-Pixel Photon Counters (MPPCs) to detect scintillation light produced by charged particles. Detailed measurements of the MPPC gain, afterpulsing, crosstalk, dark noise, and photon detection efficiency for low light levels are reported. In order to account for the impact of the MPPC behavior on T2K physics observables, a simulation program has been developed based on these measurements. The simulation is used to predict the energy resolution of the detector.

Abstract: A brief description of the developed structural electric diagrams of 16-channel scintillation module for the underground EMMA experiment, the basic characteristics and parameters of the electrical diagrams of this module are presented. Multi-pixel photodiodes operating in a limited Geiger mode are used for photoreadout of the scintillator detectors in 16-channel scintillation module. The method of the automatic tuning of the photosensors gain based on the stabilization of an average counting rate of the scintillation detectors from gamma rays of a natural radioactive background is described.
