Dynamic Modeling and Simulation on a Hybrid Power System for Electric Vehicle Applications

Abstract: Hybrid power systems, formed by combining high-energy-density batteries and high-power-density ultracapacitors in appropriate ways, provide high-performance and high-efficiency power systems for electric vehicle applications. This paper first establishes dynamic models for the ultracapacitor, the battery and a passive hybrid power system, and then based on the dynamic models a comparative simulation between a battery only power system and the proposed hybrid power system was done under the UDDS (Urban Dynamometer Driving Schedule). The simulation results showed that the hybrid power system could greatly optimize and improve the efficiency of the batteries and their dynamic current was also decreased due to the participation of the ultracapacitors, which would have a good influence on batteries’ cycle life. Finally, the parameter matching for the passive hybrid power system was studied by simulation and comparisons.

Effects of Sanqi Qiancao Recipe on hemorheological parameters of rabbits with copper intrauterine device

Abstract: Objective: To explore the mechanism of Sanqi Qiancao Recipe (SQR) in treating metrorrhagia caused by copper intrauterine device (IUD) in rabbits and to provide experimental evidence for preventing and treating this disease. Methods: Fifty-six rabbits were randomly divided into seven groups, which were normal control group, sham-operation group, untreated group, indomethacin-treated group, low-dose SQR-treated group, medium-dose SQR-treated group and high-dose SQR-treated group. Copper IUD insertion was operated in rabbits of the last five groups. Rabbits in the last four groups were treated orally with indomethacin and low-, medium- and high-dose SQR respectively for a week. Rabbits in the untreated group, normal control group and sham-operation group were given distilled water orally. Hemotocrit, blood viscosity at low, medium and high shear rate, plasma viscosity and blood sedimentation were examined after treatment. Results: The hemotocrit, blood viscosity at low, medium and high shear rate and plasma viscosity were higher in the untreated group than those in the normal control group with significant differences (P<0.01) while those indexes in low-, medium- and high-dose SQR-treated groups were significantly lower than those in the untreated group (P<0.05 or P<0.01). Conclusion: SQR can lead to a decrease in blood viscosity and improve the blood flow, which may be one of the mechanisms of SQR in treating metrorrhagia after copper IUD insertion.

Abstract: The time-domain ABCD matrix formalism is based on the propagation of a Gaussian pulse which is characterized by the pulsewidth and chirp. In this paper, the time-domain ABCD matrix of th SPM (self phase modulation) is perfected so as to acquire more information. With the time-domain ABCD matrices of amplitude modulation, filtration from the optical bandpass, group velocity dispersion and SPM, the detailed characteristics of actively mode-locked fiber laser are described and the steady-state solutions are derived for two simple cases. The application of the formalism is also helpful to understand the mechanism of mode-locking in an actively mode-locked fiber laser.

Abstract: In vitro shoot regeneration is a developmental process that multiple genes and their interactions are involved in. Initiation of somatic cells stimulated by cytokinin, division of the initiated somatic cells and succeeding shoot meristem development are three key steps in the process. Therefore, exploration of gene expression and their interactions involved in these steps will shed light on our understanding of the molecular mechanism for regulation of plant in vitro shoot regenera- tion. Here we reviewed the research results of molecular regulation process involved in these steps.

Abstract: Visualization of multi-dimensional data is an effective method for helping people understand and analyse multivariate data sets. Forums in Internet have taken a more and more important role in everyone's life. Visualizing forum data will help analyze the pattern of people's participation in forums. This paper first analyzed the feature of forum data such as closely relation with time, mass data size, multi-level data structure, multiple attributes and complex relation within the data. We proposed three methods, such as parallel coordinate, hierarchical map and curve map to visualize the different datasets in network forum. At last, we took data in a real forum for example and showed the results of visua lization.
The Experience of Happiness among Chinese Postpartum Mothers  [PDF]

Postpartum maternal happiness, an indicator of quality of life that may decrease the effects of negative emotions such as postpartum depression, is not well studied. The purpose of this analysis was to explore how postpartum mothers experience happiness. Data were part of two cross-sectional studies with snowball sampling designed to understand health status of Chinese postpartum mothers. Forty-eight and 151 Chinese mothers within 1-year postpartum in the United States and Taiwan, respectively, answered an open-ended question about the happiest events they experienced during the postpartum period. Qualitative data were analyzed by bracketing contexts to meaning units, aggregating meaning units into themes, and deriving a thematic structure that fitted all themes. Interconnectedness and fulfillment were identified as describing postpartum maternal happiness. Existence of the baby, interaction with the baby, connecting everybody in the family, and integration of the baby into the family were the categories of interconnectedness whereas extension of mother’s life, achievement, and being supported were the categories of fulfillment. The center of the postpartum mother’s life was the baby and the baby, as well as activities associated with the baby, was the main source of mothers’ happiness. Family support and achievement of various expectations, including continuation of the family name, also contributed to maternal happiness. Helping new mothers to understand both positive and negative emotions may encourage further discussion about areas in which mothers are feeling particularly challenged. Interventions such as cognitive counseling that stresses positive emotions may be used to assist new mothers find a healthy balance of emotions, especially cope with depression or feelings of sadness.

Veterinary surgery medicine (VSM) is a core subject and important clinical discipline for undergraduate students of veterinary science. The present paper reviews current information about the teaching of VSM in Northwest A&FUniversity, presents a description of the veterinary science curriculum, suggests methods to improve the quality of VSM teaching in Northwest A&FUniversity, and describes difficulties, problems, and trends in veterinary education in Northwest A&FUniversity.

Lexical Bundles in L1 and L2 Academic Writing

Abstract: This paper adopts an automated frequency-driven approach to identify frequently-used word combinations (i.e., lexical bundles) in academic writing. Lexical bundles retrieved from one corpus of published academic texts and two corpora of student academic writing (one L1, the other L2), were investigated both quantitatively and qualitatively. Published academic writing was found to exhibit the widest range of lexical bundles whereas L2 student writing showed the smallest range. Furthermore, some high-frequency expressions in published texts, such as in the context of, were underused in both student corpora, while the L2 student writers overused certain expressions (e.g., all over the world) which native academics rarely used. The findings drawn from structural and functional analyses of lexical bundles also have some pedagogical implications.
