A Fast and Efficient Genetic Evolution Algorithm

Abstract: This study presents an improved genetic algorithm. The algorithm introduced acceleration operator in the traditional genetic algorithm, effectively reducing the computational complexity. The search speed of the algorithm has been greatly improved, so that it can quickly find the global optimal solution. The accelerating collaborative operator lessons from the thoughts of binary search algorithm combining with the variable step length strategy. The accelerating operator has strong local search ability and crossover and mutation operators have strong global search ability, then combining these operators generates a new Genetic algorithm. The tests on the different functions show that the improved algorithm has the advantages of faster convergence and higher stability in the case of a small population than traditional genetic algorithm and can effectively avoid the premature phenomenon.
Development of a Distribution System for Measuring Nozzle Integrative Parameters

Abstract: The experimental system used in this study was equipped with sensors and computer-controlled processing technology. This system was used in the measurement of major performance parameters such as pressure, flux, spray angle, spray distribution character of the nozzle and its integrative performance parameter. It could also achieve precise and synchronous measurements and process multiple parameters. Measuring position of a single nozzle was also available for three-dimensional adjustment by nozzle transmission frame. The boom could achieve two-dimensional precision adjustment. Fluid power supply system could ensure the accurate measurement of nozzle flow between 50~15000 ml/min. The control system consisted of a PC, a CCD image acquisition system, data acquisition cards, sensors, and single chip microcomputer. The spray angle was measured by image processing technique. Data fusion technology was used to improve the precise measurement of spray angle. Neural network technology was used to improve the precision and speed of the system. The results showed that it is promising for using this system for measuring nozzle integrative parameter. Keywords: Nozzle; performance test; image processing; and neural network
Topological susceptibility near $T_{c}$ in SU(3) gauge theory

Abstract: Topological charge susceptibility $\chi_{t}$ for pure gauge SU(3) theory at finite temperature is studied using anisotropic lattices. The over-improved stout-link smoothing method is utilized to calculate the topological charge. Near the phase transition point we find a rapid declining behavior for $\chi_{t}$ with values decreasing from $(188(1)\mathrm{MeV})^{4}$ to $(67(3)\mathrm{MeV})^{4}$ as the temperature increased from zero temperature to $1.9T_{c}$ which demonstrates the existence of topological excitations far above $T_{c}$. The 4th order cumulant $c_4$ of topological charge, as well as the ratio $c_4/\chi_t$ are also investigated. Results of $c_4$ show step-like behavior near $T_c$ while the ratio at high temperature agrees with the value as predicted by the diluted instanton gas model.
Face Feature Extraction Based on Maximum Margin Criterion and Image Matrix Bidirectional Projection

Abstract: Conventional appearance-based face recognition needs to convert the image matrix into a higher dimensional vector. This will aggravate ``the curse of dimensionality' problem and small sample size problem for those who adopt Fisher discriminant criterion. Moreover, existing feature extractions based on tensor (matrix) representation of image encounter the problem that dimensionality of extracted feature is still too high or there is no convergent solution. Based on matrix representation of image and matrix bidirectional projection, a novel feature extraction method called MMC-MBP (maximum margin criterion and image matrix bidirectional projection) for face recognition is proposed. On the one hand, since the Laplacian matrix, which can preserve the locality of the data set, has been introduced into the scatter matrix, MMC-MBP can preserve the intrinsic manifold structure of face set. On the other hand, MMC-MBP adopts an efficient and stable maximum margin criterion, so it can conquer the small sample size problem brought by Fisher discriminant criterion. What is more, an iterative procedure, which is proven to be convergent and can monotonously increase the objective value, is devised to compute the optimal projection matrices. Thus, the proposed MMC-MBP approach can conquer the problem of existing tensor (matrix) projection based feature extraction approaches. Extensive and systematic experiments on CMU PIE face database and Yale face database verify the high convergence speed of the iterative solution procedure and demonstrate that the proposed MMC-MBP outperforms the state-of-the-art methods in face feature extraction such as Eigenfaces, Fisherfaces, and Laplacianfaces.

Application of Modified Foam Graphite Anode with Low Potential in Marine Benthic Microbial Fuel Cell

Abstract: Foam graphite is a novel anode material and its modification is one important way to increase the performance of marine benthic microbial fuel cell. The electrochemical performance of mixed-acid modified foam graphite anode was investigated. The results showed that the hydroxyl and carboxyl groups were introduced on foam graphite surface after modification. The contact angle of modified anode decreased 24.5°, resulting in higher wettability and better attachment for bacteria. Its exchange current density reached 6760.8 mA/m2 and the kinetic activity was improved 53.7-fold higher than the original one. Additionally, the present study also found that the anode potential of modified decreased 100 mV, and its open circuit potential reached 865 mV (plain anode 750 mV). The power density of modified cell reached 358.1 mW/m2, 2.4-fold higher than unmodified foam. Three months discharge showed that the modified anode and its cell have relatively stable performance. Meanwhile, the paper primarily analyzed the reasons why the anode potential was lower and kinetic activity was higher after modification. The results gave some enlightenments to constructing a novel marine benthic microbial fuel cell with higher output voltage and power.
Optimizing the Extraction of Anti-tumor Polysaccharides from the Fruit of Capparis spionosa L. by Response Surface Methodology

Abstract: Capparis spionosa L. is a traditional medicinal plant in China and central Asia. In this study, an experiment was designed to investigate the optimization of the extraction of anti-tumor polysaccharides from the fruit of Capparis spionosa L. (CSPS) by response surface methodology (RSM). Four independent variables (extraction temperature, extraction time, ratio of water to sample and extraction cycles) were explored. Meanwhile, the in vivo anti-tumor activity of CSPS was investigated. The results showed that the experimental data could be fitted to a second-order polynomial equation using multiple regression analysis. The optimum extraction conditions were as follows: extraction temperature 92 °C, extraction time 140 min, ratio of water to sample 26 mL/g, and three extraction cycle. Under these conditions, the yield of polysaccharides reached 13.01%, which was comparable to the predicted yield (12.94%, p > 0.05). This indicated that the model was adequate for the extraction process. Additionally, CSPS could prolong the survival time of H22 bearing mice in vivo. The anti-tumor activities of CSPS were dose-dependent.

Abstract: We investigate the behavior of the chiral condensate in lattice QCD at finite temperature and finite chemical potential. The study was done using two flavors of light quarks and with a series of $\beta$ and $ma$ at the lattice size $24\times12^{2}\times6$. The calculation was done in the Taylar expansion formalism. We are able to calculate the first and second order derivatives of $\langle\bar{\psi}\psi\rangle$ in both isoscalar and isovector channels. With the first derivatives being small, we find that the second derivatives are sizable close to the phase transition and the magnitude of $\bar{\psi}\psi$ decreases under the influence of finite chemical potential in both channels.

Abstract: Properties of $2^{-+}$ charmonium $\eta_{c2}$ are investigated in quenched lattice QCD. The mass of $\eta_{c2}$ is determined to be 3.80(3) GeV, which is close to the mass of $D$-wave charmonium $\psi(3770)$ and in agreement with quark model predictions. The transition width of $\eta_{c2}\to \gamma J/\psi$ is also obtained with a value $\Gamma=3.8(9)$ keV. Since the possible $2^{-+}$ assignment to X(3872) has not been ruled out by experiments, our results help to clarify the nature of X(3872).
