Interciencia , 2003,
Abstract: a survey of 335 individuals, 1-65 years of age (mean ±sd of 20.8 ±15.7), in 6 communities from the san carlos island, western venezuela, was conducted to study the prevalence of serum antibody to toxoplasma gondii. the indirect hemagglutination test showed an overall infection rate of 49.8% (167 of 335) that ranged 23-64.8% according to the locality. no association between antibody status and age or risk factors was detected. higher antibody rates were found in a windward coast community, and lower rates in a rural sector when compared to 3 other localities. higher geometric mean titers were found in the communities with higher antibody rates. toxoplasmosis is prevalent and widely spread in the area. infection by oocysts from cat feces appears to be the predominant mode of transmission and contaminated drinking water seems to play a role in the transmission.

Translation and Reception of The Wealth of Nations by Spanish and Latin American Authors during Eighteenth and Nineteenth Centuries  [PDF]
Paz Molero Hernández
Open Journal of Social Sciences (JSS) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/jss.2015.35008
Abstract: The objective of this paper is not the complete work, but namely to analyze the reasons for which in Spain and Latin America The Wealth of Nations, was censored in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and to analyze in turn whether the reasons for this censorship correspond to the ideas that Adam Smith effectively defended. It is not intended to judge the intention of any of the parties involved in this process but to understand the context in which they occurred, and to judge whether people in Spanish-speaking countries during those centuries knew what Adam Smith actually wanted to express.

Analysing Economic and Financial Power of Different Countries at the End of the Twentieth Century  [PDF]
Juan Carlos Molero, Francesc Pujol
Modern Economy (ME) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/me.2012.32028
Abstract: This paper offers further evidence to “The Economist” index of economic power developed by Pujol (2002, 2003, and 2009). The original index is composite by construction and it gives information about year 2000, comparing the results with year 1990. Testing the robustness of the ranking of selected countries obtained by Pujol’s index; this paper applies the same methodology to two specific years: 1995 and 2001. The research tries to ascertain if the evolution of the rank- ing of countries among years 1990 and 2000 is not merely a chance. The number of times each country appears in tables and graphs of the different “The Economist” issues for year 1995 confirms the evolution of the index between 1990 and 2000. Data for year 2001 gives continuity and support to the ranking developed in year 2000. The data analyzed from this magazine make sense, because at the end it gives the same information that the one obtained from other more tradi- tional and sophisticated ways. Empirical results tend to confirm that unconventional composite index can produce relevant data sets for scientists and practitioners.
La transferencia de tecnología revisitada: conceptos básicos y nuevas reflexiones a partir de un modelo de gestión de excelencia
Molero, José
Arbor : Ciencia, Pensamiento y Cultura , 2008, DOI: 10.3989/arbor.2008.i732.212
Abstract: This paper deals with the topic of technology transfer from universities and research centres to the productive world. The conceptual framework is to consider technology as a kind of knowledge, so to a considerable extent, we can extend the arguments to a more general context of knowledge transfer. Two are the basis for the analysis: on the one hand, some conceptual and empirical advances of the economic analysis of innovation and technological change and, on the other, the results of the research project Management and output measurement system in R&D centres (SIGRID model). This approach anticipates a new methodological demand consisting of the capacity of improving the theoretical analysis by taking into account contributions based on more empirical and sticky works. They can contribute with interesting complements about the functioning of the creation and transfer of technology and the factors facilitating or hampering those processes.

Molero-Mesa, Jorge;
História, Ciências, Saúde-Manguinhos , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-59702006000200010
Abstract: the article explores the role played by science and western medicine in the colonization process undertaken by the spanish state between 1912 and 1956 in northern morocco. it takes into account the colonizers' strategy of using medicine to impose the 'superiority' of the scientific method. they believed the 'rhetoric of scientific truth' would hold greater sway as an effective tool of colonization than reliance on and imposition of dogma from other, more contentious fields, like law or, particularly, religion. sources for this study encompass different handwritten documents released by the spanish and moroccan administrations (majzen), which can be found at the archivo general de la administración (alcalá de henares, spain) and at the biblioteca general y archivos de tetuán (morocco), as well as writings by spanish physicians in the form of monographs and journal and press articles, from both the metropolis and the colony.
La Aplicación de la Sociología Compleja del Conocimiento a la Historia del Pensamiento Económico
Cinta de moebio , 2010, DOI: 10.4067/S0717-554X2010000100003
Abstract: this article seeks to support the application of the complex sociology of knowledge to the history of economic thought, in order to study the formation of its main theories and conceptual frameworks. with the starting point of the incommensurability of research paradigms? problem, the construction of metatheoretical systems is proposed to analyse non-verifiable assumptions at the core of scientific theories. subsequently, the main implications of that proposal are analysed vis-a-vis the social and historical nature of social sciences. the article concludes with some methodological considerations for the construction of metasystems in the history of economic thought.
