A Problem Structuring Method for Innovation Strategy: A Tentative DPSIR Approach  [PDF]
Yuting Qiu, Yiyang Fan
iBusiness (IB) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/ib.2013.53B017

The rise of emerging markets is restructuring the global economic and social landscape. It requires a new paradigm of global innovation strategy to meet this challenge. After reviewing possible trends in today’s world, it is suggested that the objective of innovation is to create an inclusive-and-sustainable future. To achieve this goal, this paper is concerned with the use of the Problem Structuring Methods (PSMs) which encourage the participation of all stakeholders involved in decision making and policy development. DPSIR (Drivers-Pressures-States-Impacts-Responses) framework, a particular PSMs, is employed to provide a systematic view in problem identification, analysis and solving in terms of multiple perspectives of stakeholders.

Yiyang Fan, Yuting Qiu, Xing Zhang
Engineering (ENG) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/eng.2012.412115
Abstract: China has been the largest country in terms of the scale of higher engineering education in the world. The training plan of excellent engineers (TPEE) that launched in 2010 is to train various types of high-quality engineers and technical personnel who have strong innovative abilities and meet the need of economic and social development. The theory of inventive problem solving (TRIZ), as a scientific methodology to solve innovation problems, provides a theoretical basis and practical guideline for the training of excellent engineers. This paper analyzes the teaching philosophy and methods for the training of excellent engineers within TRIZ framework from the demand perspective, and then discusses the enlightenment of disseminating TRIZ in the following aspects, such as TRIZ application in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education, faculty development, platform development of innovative education and so on.

Yiyang Fan,Youhua Zhang
Asian Social Science , 2010, DOI: 10.5539/ass.v6n9p96
Abstract: This paper builds game model to analyze selection issues of IUR co-operation model through Nash bargaining theory. The result shows that, the stronger innovative capability, more economic benefits expected, less technical content of scientific research, companies more inclined to choose a higher degree of close model; otherwise, companies tend to choose more closely integrated degree lower mode.

Photonic Crystal Cavities in Silicon Dioxide
Yiyang Gong,Jelena Vuckovic
Physics , 2009, DOI: 10.1063/1.3297877
Abstract: One dimensional nano-beam photonic crystal cavities fabricated in silicon dioxide are considered in both simulation and experiment. Quality factors of over 10^4 are found via simulation, while quality factors of over 5*10^3 are found in experiment, for cavities with mode volumes of 2.0 cubic wavelengths (in oxide) and in the visible wavelength range (600-716nm). The dependences of the cavity quality factor and mode volume for different design parameters are also considered.
