Abstract: invasive meningococcal disease constitutes a worldwide health problem. gram negative bacteria, neisseria meningitidis is the causal agent of this disease. plain or conjugated polysaccharide vaccines are available against four of five serogroups responsible of more than 95% of cases in the world. because serogroup b polysaccharide is non immunogenic, some vaccine candidates, based on outer membrane proteins have been obtained and evaluated in clinical trials. bactericidal activity determination and elisa igg have been used to evaluate immune response generated by antimeningococcal vaccines. the latter has been used, as potency test, to release va-mengoc-bc? vaccine lots, produced at finlay institute. as a result of the collaboration with norwegian researchers, a vaccine candidate based on outer membrane proteins against serogroups a and w 135 , has been obtained and evaluated in animal models. the current work describes the standardization of an elisa method to be used in the immune response evaluation of the bivalent vaccinal candidate.

Abstract: a randomized, controlled and double-blind trial was carried out in 225 cuban teenagers aged 13-16 to evaluate the reactogenicity and immunogenicity of a new tetanus toxoid and reduced diphtheria toxoid vaccine (finlay institute) with respect to imovax dt adult control vaccine (aventis pasteur). serum samples were taken before and 21 days after immunization. the reactogenicity of both vaccines was similar. the general and local adverse events were mild and mainly detected in the first 72 hours after vaccination. all volunteers showed protective levels of tetanus antitoxin and diphtheria antitoxin (30.1 iu/ml). 99.25% of subjects who received the experimental vaccine and 98.36% of control subjects showed long-term protective values of tetanus antitoxin (31.0 iu/ml). these diphtheria antitoxin levels were respectively detected in 81.20% and 80.33% of volunteers.the geometric mean titer values for tetanus antitoxin and diphtheria antitoxin induced after vaccination were 21.73 iu/ml and 2.55 iu/ml respectively, higher than antitoxin levels of control group: 15.55 iu/ml and 1.84 iu/ml respectively (p<0.05).
ENCUENTROS Y DESENCUENTROS DEL IDEALISMO ALEMáN. A PROPóSITO DE LA PUBLICACIóN: CORRESPONDENCIA. KANT, FICHTE, SCHELLING, HEGEL
OCHOA,HUGO;
Ideas y Valores , 2011,
Abstract: the history of german idealism is marked by points of agreement and divergence among those who attempted to complete a task that might have remained unfinished in terms of its first formulations and that would lead to the definitive constitution of philosophy. in this sense, the correspondence among kant, fichte, schelling, and hegel makes it possible to unravel, to some extent, the non-explicit assumptions underlying the systems of these thinkers, since it reveals the questions, objectives, initial formulations, discussions, and differences that would later acquire a systematic structure. this article attempts to show how despite the intention of these philosophers to remain faithful to an original impulse, that alleged fidelity was based on essential misunderstandings.
Umbrales en el pensamiento
Ochoa,Roberto;
Polis (Santiago) , 2012, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-65682012000300012
Abstract: from a perspective that takes place in ivan illich′s ideas aboutthe notion of proportionality, this article refers to the idea of limits or thresholds asa necessary element for the reconstruction of a multicultural world. but, also inspiredby illich, it takes distance from cientific-professional practices of production ofstatements that have nothing to do with popular practices. from outside and fromthe top is not possible to reconstruct "a world where many worlds can coexist".this doesn′t mean that the search for new social paradigm is something simple.nonetheless, the search is so deep that leads us even to reintroduce the experienceof sacredness, as described by mircea eliade in traditional societies, as an epistemicprinciple for that "other" possible world.
Razón y fe, un diálogo entre Kant y Jacobi
Ochoa,Hugo;
Teología y vida , 2003, DOI: 10.4067/S0049-34492003000400004
Abstract: the present work dialectically sets forth jacobi′s and kant′s conception of the relation between faith and reason. with this intention kant′s work is specially analyzed _was hei?t: sich im denken orientieren? (1786)_, and written in order to mediate the conflict between mendelssohn and jacobi apropos of lessing′s allegedly pantheism, as well as other postcritic writings relevant to the issue. in regard to jacobi, this work is maily focused in the introduction to "david hume über den glauben, oder idealismus und realismus", a dialogue, that the author himself considers an introduction to the philosophic writings of the author in its entirety
Connexions: a Social and Successful Anomaly among Learning Object Repositories
Xavier Ochoa
Journal of Emerging Technologies in Web Intelligence , 2010, DOI: 10.4304/jetwi.2.1.11-22
Abstract: Connexions is a Learning Object Repository that has gained notoriety as a successful example of collaborative creation of learning materials. In a previous quantitative study about the characteristics of learning material repositories, Connexions presented some anomalies that prevented it to be classified together with other Learning Object Repositories. This paper, working with updated data, finds that those anomalies are not errors of the previous study, but that the anomalies have increased and are more strongly expressed. Moreover, those anomalies, namely the exponential growth in the number of contributors and content, seem to be the reason behind the success of Connexions. It is concluded in this work that Connexions strategy of “release early, release often”, together with the openness of its core community, that welcome and support newcomers and sporadic contributors, offer a reasonable explanation for the exponential growth trends found in Connection, that can be classified now as a Social Learning Object Repository.
The present work dialectically sets forth Jacobi′s and Kant′s conception of the relation between faith and reason. With this intention Kant′s work is specially analyzed _Was hei t: Sich im Denken orientieren? (1786)_, and written in order to mediate the conflict between Mendelssohn and Jacobi apropos of Lessing′s allegedly pantheism, as well as other postcritic writings relevant to the issue.
