SIMPLE ANALYSIS OF THE NEURAL OPTIMIZATION METHOD FOR DOA ESTIMATION

Abstract: This paper gives a simple analysis of the method of using the Hop-field's optimization neural network to solve the DOA estimation problem. Although the method can avoid the eigendecomposition of data autocorrelation matrix and the orthogonality search of parameter space, theoretical analysis and simulation results show that the construction of the DOA cost function is incorrect on the condition that there is no constraint on the number of outputs of the network.

Abstract: A neural method to solve the orthogonality search problem arising in direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation is proposed. The problem is mapped onto the snergy function of the neural network as a linear programming problem. The most important feature of this method hinges upon the fact that the number of neurons in the network is linearly dependent on the number of sensors in the sensor array, rather than the discretization levels of parameter space. Theoretical analysis and simulation results show that the performance of the neural method is exactly equivalent to that of the standard MUSIC method or the real domain DOA estimation method.
Climatic trends over the Tibetan Plateau during 1971-2000

Abstract: Trends of annual and monthly temperature, precipitation, potential evapotranspi-ration and aridity index were analyzed to understand climate change during the period 1971–2000 over the Tibetan Plateau which is one of the most special regions sensitive to global climate change. FAO56–Penmen–Monteith model was modified to calculate potential evapotranspiration which integrated many climatic elements including maximum and mini-mum temperatures, solar radiation, relative humidity and wind speed. Results indicate gen-erally warming trends of the annual averaged and monthly temperatures, increasing trends of precipitation except in April and September, decreasing trends of annual and monthly poten-tial evapotranspiration, and increasing aridity index except in September. It is not the isolated climatic elements that are important to moisture conditions, but their integrated and simulta-neous effect. Moreover, potential evapotranspiration often changes the effect of precipitation on moisture conditions. The climate trends suggest an important warm and humid tendency averaged over the southern plateau in annual period and in August. Moisture conditions would probably get drier at large area in the headwater region of the three rivers in annual average and months from April to November, and the northeast of the plateau from July to September. Complicated climatic trends over the Tibetan Plateau reveal that climatic factors have nonlinear relationships, and resulte in much uncertainty together with the scarcity of observation data. The results would enhance our understanding of the potential impact of climate change on environment in the Tibetan Plateau. Further research of the sensitivity and attribution of climate change to moisture conditions on the plateau is necessary.
Distributed Transmit Beamforming without Phase Feedback

Abstract: Phase feedback and adjustment between wireless nodes greatly reduce the power efficiency of distributed beamforming. In this paper, we propose a distributed transmit beamforming method without any phase feedback between nodes. The concept of our approach is to have the received signals retrace their ways, so that the phase offset of the forward path compensates that of the backward path; as a result, signals from different nodes in-phase combine at the destination. Therefore, the received power or the communication range is increased. In order to implement the concept of “retracement”, we also propose a transceiver prototype which is based on the Direct Digital Synthesis technique. Experimental and simulation results validate the effectiveness of our approach.

Abstract: The uniform circular array is transformed into uniform linear array by the spatial matched filter transformation from element space to beam space. Based on the space-time matched filter output in frequency domain, the joint angle and delay estimation with uniform circular array in aperiodic spreading system is solved with DOA matrix method. The joint estimation algorithm also solved the problem, that the multipath number can not be larger than the element number in conventional spatial processing method. The theoretical analysis and computer simulations demonstrate that the method is an unbiased estimator and its estimation precision is superior to that of the sliding correlator.

Abstract: A versatile signal model suitable for linear space-time multiuser detectors in asynchronous DS-CDMA systems is proposed. Based on the model, a versatile linear space-time multiuser detector is presented and its optimal solution according to the Linear Constrained Minimum Variance (LCMV) criterion is deduced. The analyses of the existent linear multiuser detectors demonstrate that, these methods are just the special cases of the versatile detector in this paper and can only achieve the suboptimal solution. Hence their interference camceling performance is inferior to the optimal detector in this paper. Finally, numerical simulations are presented.

Abstract: In this paper, the spectral correlation conjugate cyclic ESPRIT with Minimum-Redundancy Linear-Arrays (MRLA) is presented. The algorithm constructs the pseudodata matrix of MRLA to estimate Direction-Of-Arrival (DOA) through temporal and spatial processing. The equivalent array aperture of the algorithm is 2N -1 with M-sensor MRLA (N>M). Theoretical analysis and computer simulations show that the algorithm is of better performance, such as extending aperture, being insensitive to noise, having higher resolution, and estimating more sources with fewer sensors.

Abstract: The concept of instantaneous frequency(IF) and its traditional construct method - analytic method are introduced in this paper. Then by means of joint time-frequency analysis, the physical meaning of IF and its relation with the time-frequency distributions are also discussed. It is pointed out that one of the destinations of 2-D time-frequency distributions is to estimate the IF, and the different distribution can be of different effect. The performances of several popular distributions are compared, consequently AOP method is found to be a suitable one to estimate the IF.

Abstract: In this paper, a semi-blind closed-form co-channel signal separation method is proposed, which is based on two steps. The first is to estimate the zero space of multi-users signals. The second is to estimate them using LMS method and some short sequence, which is always known in digital communication system. Compared with non-blind ones, the new method needs very short sequence, the shortest length of which is equal to the number of co-channel users. At the same time it can overcome the shortcoming of blind ones in computational complexity and lack of global convergence. The computer simulation demonstrates that the new method is suitable for co-channel signal separation in smart antenna system when multipath exists.
