A Survey-Based Discussion on Perception and Attitude towards CSR in China  [PDF]

The rapid growth of China’s economy is changing the current pattern of the international market. Nevertheless, scholars have concluded that there is a serious misconduct of CSR among Chinese enterprises. This research is conducted based on a survey to some companies in Guangdong Province to investigate the perception and attitudes of employees from enterprises towards CSR and sustainable development with focuses on three aspects which includes enterprises’ understanding of CSR, the influence of enterprises’ stakeholders on their CSR and what enterprises should do to assume CSR. It can be concluded that some enterprises have had some extent of CSR awareness and do assume CSR in their practices, however enterprises’ attention to CSR is still not sufficient enough and only confines to solving social responsibility problems that closely related to their economic interests.

Wavelet-based Estimator for the Hurst Parameters of Fractional Brownian Sheet

Abstract: It is proposed a class of statistical estimators $\hat H =(\hat H_1, \ldots, \hat H_d)$ for the Hurst parameters $H=(H_1, \ldots, H_d)$ of fractional Brownian field via multi-dimensional wavelet analysis and least squares, which are asymptotically normal. These estimators can be used to detect self-similarity and long-range dependence in multi-dimensional signals, which is important in texture classification and improvement of diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). Some fractional Brownian sheets will be simulated and the simulated data are used to validate these estimators. We find that when $H_i \geq 1/2$, the estimators are efficient, and when $H_i < 1/2$, there are some bias.
Differentiation of Mesenchymal Stem Cells into Hepatocyte-Like Cells by Autologous Serum after Radiofrequency Ablation of Liver Tumor  [PDF]

Abstract: Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have been shown to differentiate into liver cells in serum of part-resection liver, but it was hardly feasible in clinical use. Our studies revealed that MSCs could differentiate into hepatocyte-like cells in autologous serum after radiofrequency ablation (RFA) therapy of the liver tumor. Rabbits with liver tumor subsequently treated with RFA therapy. Serum was collected from those rabbits before RFA therapy and 72 hours after RFA therapy. MSCs were isolated from each rabbit’s bone marrow and cultured in DMEM medium containing the following different supplements: 30% fetal calf serum (FCS group), 30% rabbit autologous serum (AS group) or 30% autologous serum after RFA treatment of the liver tumor (ASRF group), observed by electron microscopy, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence. Seven days later, most of the spindle-shaped MSCs in the ASRF group transformed into polygon or round-shaped cells resembling hepatocytes, and the percentage in S/G2/M phase was higher than in the FCS or AS groups. Fourteen days later, slender microvilli, cell-cell junction structures and cholangiole emerged in the cells belonging to the ASRF group, the expression of albumin and CK18 was observed only in the differentiated cells from the ASRF group. These changes were not observed in the FCS group or the AS group. This study may provide a potential cell source and culture process for clinical application in liver injury treatment.

Abstract: The title compound, [Cu(NCS)(C12H8N6)]n, is a self-assembled two-dimensional metal–organic network. The Cu atom is linked by two N atoms from two 3,6-di-4-pyridyl-1,2,4,5-tetrazine ligands and by the N and S atoms from two thiocyanate ligands in a distorted tetrahedral environment. The Cu atom and the thiocyanate ligand occupy a crystallographic mirror plane m, and a crystallographic inversion centre is in the middle of the tetrazine ring, generating the zigzag fashion of the two-dimensional network. The infinite –Cu—SCN—Cu—SCN– chain is due to translational symmetry along the a axis. These chains are further connected through the 3,6-di-4-pyridyl-1,2,4,5-tetrazine ligands that bridge the CuI centers, generating a two-dimensional network. There are π—π stacking interactions between the pyridine and tetrazine rings (perpendicular distances of 3.357 and 3.418 ), with a centroid–centroid distance of 3.6785 (16) .

Abstract: In the title compound, [CuCl2(C6H7N)2(C12H8N4O)]n, the Cu atom, located on an inversion center, is coordinated by four N atoms from two aniline ligands and two 2,5-bis(4-pyridyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole ligands. Two Cl atoms lying above and below the plane formed by these four N atoms interact weakly with the Cu atom [Cu—Cl = 2.7870 (7) ]. The trans 2,5-bis(4-pyridyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole ligands act as bridging ligands, linking adjacent Cu atoms and forming a one-dimensional coordination polymer. Two anilines coordinate with each Cu atom as terminal groups. The structure contains two classical N—H...Cl and two non-classical C—H...Cl hydrogen bonds.
Enhanced Microwave Absorption Properties of α-Fe2O3-Filled Ordered Mesoporous Carbon Nanorods

Abstract: A novel kind of α-Fe 2O 3-filled ordered mesoporous carbon nanorods has been synthesized by a facial hydrothermal method. Compared with dendritic α-Fe 2O 3 micropines, both a broader effective absorption range—from 10.5 GHz to 16.5 GHz with reflection loss (RL) less than ?10 dB—and a thinner matching thickness of 2.0 mm have been achieved in the frequency range 2–18 GHz. The enhanced microwave absorption properties evaluated by the RL are attributed to the enhanced dielectric loss resulting from the intrinsic physical properties and special structures.
A Survey on English Learning Motivation of Students in Qingdao Agricultural University

Abstract: A survey from students of both Advanced and Ordinary English classes in Qingdao Agricultural University shows that most of the students are motivated by both intrinsic and extrinsic motivations. However, intrinsic motivation is more important than extrinsic motivation in contributing to English learning. There is no difference in anxiety between students in Advanced English class and in Ordinary English class and the attitude of students in Advanced English class is more proper than that of students in Ordinary English class. Therefore, they are more active in English learning than the students in Ordinary English Class are. The higher autonomous learning ability they have, the better the achievement they get.
Purple Phototrophic Bacterium Enhances Stevioside Yield by Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni via Foliar Spray and Rhizosphere Irrigation

Abstract: This study was conducted to compare the effects of foliar spray and rhizosphere irrigation with purple phototrophic bacteria (PPB) on growth and stevioside (ST) yield of Stevia. rebaudiana. The S. rebaudiana plants were treated by foliar spray, rhizosphere irrigation, and spray plus irrigation with PPB for 10 days, respectively. All treatments enhanced growth of S. rebaudiana, and the foliar method was more efficient than irrigation. Spraying combined with irrigation increased the ST yield plant -1 by 69.2% as compared to the control. The soil dehydrogenase activity, S. rebaudiana shoot biomass, chlorophyll content in new leaves, and soluble sugar in old leaves were affected significantly by S+I treatment, too. The PPB probably works in the rhizosphere by activating the metabolic activity of soil bacteria, and on leaves by excreting phytohormones or enhancing the activity of phyllosphere microorganisms.
Dynamic 3-D Indoor Radio Propagation Model and Applications with Radios from 433 MHZ to 2.4 GHz  [PDF]

Abstract: Proliferation of indoor sensor infrastructure has created a new niche for mobile communications, yet research in indoor radio propagation still has not generated a definite model that is able to 1) precisely capture radio signatures in 3-D environments and 2) effectively apply to radios at a wide range of frequency bands. This paper first introduces the impact of wall obstructions on indoor radio propagation by experimental results through a full cycle of an indoor construction process; it then exploits a dynamic 3-D indoor radio propagation model in a two-story building using radio technologies at both 433 MHz and 2.4 GHz. Experimental measurements and evaluation results show that the proposed 3-D model generates accurate signal strength values at all data evaluation positions. Comparing the two radio technologies, this study also indicates that low frequency radios (such as 433 MHz) might not be attractive for indoor mobile computing applications because of larger experimental errors or constant absence of measurement data.
Multiresolution Finite Element Method Based on a New Locking-Free Rectangular Mindlin Plate Element  [PDF]

Abstract: A locking-free rectangular Mindlin plate element with a new multi-resolution analysis (MRA) is proposed and a new finite element method is hence presented. The MRA framework is formulated out of a mutually nesting displacement subspace sequence whose basis functions are constructed of scaling and shifting on the element domain of basic full node shape function. The basic full node shape function is constructed by extending the split node shape function of a traditional Mindlin plate element to other three quadrants around the coordinate zero point. As a result, a new rational MRA concept together with the resolution level (RL) is constituted for the element. The traditional 4-node rectangular Mindlin plate element and method is a mono-resolution one and also a special case of the proposed element and method. The meshing for the monoresolution plate element model is based on the empiricism while the RL adjusting for the multiresolution is laid on the rigorous mathematical basis. The analysis clarity of a plate structure is actually determined by the RL, not by the mesh. Thus, the accuracy of a plate structural analysis is replaced by the clarity, the irrational MRA by the rational and the mesh model by the RL that is the discretized model by the integrated.
