Changes of eye signs in chronic hepatitis B patients with blood stasis syndrome

Abstract: Objective: To study the characteristics of eye signs in chronic hepatitis B patients with blood stasis syndrome and the association between blood stasis syndrome and eye signs. Methods: A total of 126 patients with chronic hepatitis B were randomly divided into four groups: non-blood stasis group, and mild, moderate and severe blood stasis groups. The changes of eye signs in the four groups were tested and compared. Results: There were significant differences in scores of blood stasis and eye signs among the four groups (P<0.05 or P<0.01). The changes of eye signs in chronic hepatitis B patients with blood stasis syndrome were different with those with non-blood stasis syndrome. There were no significant differences in each item of the eye signs among the four groups (P>0.05).Conclusion: The eye signs of blood stasis syndrome are applicable, objective and convenient for diagnosing blood stasis syndrome in patients with chronic hepatitis B.

Abstract: The concept of restricted-branched random fractal is suggested and the fractal dimension has been calculated with the statistical theory of branched random growth.The result shows that the fractal dimension of ideal random-fractal would be between 2 and 4.Finally,a discussion about the linear degree of random fractal shows how it is related to the anisotropy of the interactions in physical systems.

Workflow schema mining extends workflow mining in nature. This paper discussed the techniques of schema mining, analyzed the challenging problems involved in it and introduced an algorithm of schema mining.

Abstract: A passenger counting method is proposed in this paper based on binocular stereovision for collecting the real-time passenger data in public transport.This counting method involves three blocks: moving object detection,object labeling,object matching and counting.Object detection is the vital issue of the counting system.A row frame difference method is firstly adopted to detect possible moving objects.Then,the facticity of each possible object is judged based on disparity analysis.Experimental results show that the proposed method can obtain an on-spot counting accuracy of 92% tested on a large data set capturing from simulated scenarios in laboratory and on moving buses.This approach is effective to avoid illumination changes and shadow of passengers.
Design of Vertically Aligned Binocular Omnistereo Vision Sensor

Abstract: Catadioptric omnidirectional vision sensor (ODVS) with a fixed single view point is a fast and reliable single panoramic visual information acquisition equipment. This paper presents a new type of binocular stereo ODVS which composes of two ODVS with the same parameters. The single view point of each ODVS is fixed on the same axis with face-to-face, back-to-back, and faceto- back configuration; the single view point design is implemented by catadioptric technology such as the hyperboloid, constant angular resolution, and constant vertical resolution. The catadioptric mirror design uses the method of increasing the resolution of the view field and the scope of the image in the vertical direction. The binocular stereo ODVS arranged in vertical is designed spherical, cylindrical surfaces and rectangular plane coordinate system for 3D calculations. Using the collinearity of two view points, the binocular stereo ODVS is able to easily align the azimuth, while the camera calibration, feature points match, and other cumbersome steps have been simplified. The experiment results show that the proposed design of binocular stereo ODVS can solve the epipolar constraint problems effectively, match three-dimensional image feature points rapidly, and reduce the complexity of three-dimensional measurement considerably.

From neurodevelopment to neurodegeneration: the interaction of neurofibromin and valosin-containing protein/p97 in regulation of dendritic spine formation

Abstract: Neurons are highly differentiated cells composed of several specialized subcellular structures, including soma, dendrites, axon, and numerous synapses. All of these structures play specific roles in signal transduction between or within neurons. Besides dendrites and axons, dendritic spines are particularly interesting structures, which are the tiny protrusions (~0.5-1 μm in width and ~1-2 μm in length) extending from dendrites. The majority of excitatory synapses in the mammalian nervous system are localized at the tips of dendritic spines [1]. Morphology and density of dendritic spines are controlled by genetic program, neuronal activity, and environmental insults. Indeed, defects of neural development leading to alterations of neuronal morphology are associated with many neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders, including mental retardation, learning disability, autism, attention-deficient hyperactivity disorder, and schizophrenia [2,3]. On the other hand, impairment in maintenance of neuronal morphology is also frequently found in neurodegenerative disorders. For instance, synaptic loss has been suggested as a cause of dementia [4-6]. This review will focus on an example showing that neurodegeneration may be relevant with neurodevelopment in terms of regulation of neuronal morphology. It is regarding a recent finding of the interaction between neurofibromin and valosin-containing protein (VCP).Neurofibromin, the protein product of the neurofibromatosis type I (NF1) gene, regulates the formation of dendritic spines [7], which explains at least partially why patients with NF1 suffer from cognitive defects. Recently, we further identified that VCP/p97 interacts with neurofibromin and demonstrated that VCP/p97 also controls dendritic spinogenesis of neurons [8]. A simple method of determining the Hubble constant

Abstract: Bidirectional relativistic proper motions of radio components of nearby extragalactic sources give a strong constraint on the determination of the Hubble constant $H_0$. Under the assumption that the real velocity of radio components of extragalactic sources is not less than that of Galactic sources, the value of $H_0$ can be estimated at a high level of accuracy. The assumption is reasonable due to the general belief that the activity in the core of galaxies must be more powerful than that of stars. This method is simple and with only one uncertainty --- the real velocity of components. This uncertainty is related to the value of the real velocity of componenets of Galactic sources and the latter is always well-determined (note that the determination is independent of $H_0$ and the distance of Galactic sources can be directly measured at a rather high level of accuracy). Hopefully the method will play an important role in future research to fix the value of $H_0$. With the data of the three sources available so far and the assumption that the real velocity of componenets of at least one of the sources is not less than a known velocity of componenets of a Galactic source, the constant is estimated to be within $27.08kms^{-1}Mpc^{-1} < H_0 \leq 53.15kms^{-1}Mpc^{-1}$ with this method.
