ACIMED , 2007,
Abstract: Se realizó un estudio métrico de la producción científica de Cuba en ciencias sociales en el período 2000-2005 a partir de las publicaciones impresas científicas editadas por el Ministerio de Educación y el Ministerio de Educación Superior. Se estudió la productividad y la colaboración científica de los investigadores e instituciones comprendidas en el análisis. Para la compilación, procesamiento y mapificación de los resultados, se emplearon los programas: Endnote 9, Bibexcel y Ucinet. 6. Entre las publicaciones estudiadas, Educación y Revista Cubana de Psicología fueron las más productivas. Asimismo, el Instituto Superior Pedagógico “Enrique José Varona” y la Universidad Central de las Villas fueron las instituciones más prolíferas. Existe poca colaboración científica entre los centros docentes y de investigación, el núcleo del quehacer académico en las ciencias sociales, así como entre los investigadores más productivos. Igualmente, se presentaron problemas relacionados con la calidad de las publicaciones científicas que limitaron el alcance de la investigación. Finalmente, se analizaron las categorías científicas y el género más representativo en la comunidad científica de las ciencias sociales. Rodríguez Sánchez,Yaniris; Mesa Fleitas,María Elena; Solórzano álvarez,Ernestina;
ACIMED , 2006,
Abstract: in order to determine the coverage of the printed scientific publications published by the cuban ministry of public health, whose national databases were made by cubaciencia and cumed from 2000 to 2004, a bibliometric study was carried out. the revista cubana de medicina general integral, the revista cubana de medicina and the revista cubana de medicina tropical were the most productive, with 55.51 % of articles published. of the 843 articles published by the selected magazines, cubaciencia registered 297, accounting for 35.23 % of the total of the studied sample. cumed, on the other hand, processed 644 articles (76,39 %). this is a higher coverage, but it is not total yet. the most productive institutions were “dr luis diaz soto” higher military medicine institute, “pedro kourí” tropical medicine institute and the national institute of angiology and vascular surgery the coverage of both databases includes only 55.87 % of the total of published articles. it implies a serious limitation for the access, use and diffusion of the scientific achievements of the cuban authors in the health area by means of these databases.

ACIMED , 2006,
The Canadian health system and its financing
Solórzano,Francisco Xavier;
Revista Panamericana de Salud Pública , 1997, DOI: 10.1590/S1020-49891997000700005
Abstract: this work stems from a brief visit in 1993 to the canadian health services as part of the paho international health training program and the subsequent research, discussion, and analysis relating to that experience. by no means is this paper an exhaustive account of the system, but rather a close look at one of its aspects: financing. the main objective is to identify some of the virtues and limitations of a health system that is considered one of the most efficient, effective, and equitable in the world. although the canadian health system is financed by the federal government and the provincial governments, cost containment is a constant concern, since factors such as the growing use of highly complex technologies, hospital care, and long-term treatment of chronic and degenerative illnesses tend to increase costs. the progressive reduction in the federal budget has led to more efficient use of resources and the rationalization of installed capacity. at the same time, the relative simplicity of the system?s operation has permitted administrative costs to be kept low. in addition, alternative forms of care, such as local centers for community-based care, care at home and in special institutions to promote the maximum level of self-sufficiency, and the use of volunteers, have been devised in order to partially control cost increases. the people?s participation in planning and decision-making permit them to guide the development of the health services. nevertheless, given the current situation, it is essential that the system be modified to prepare it for the challenges the twenty-first century will bring.
