Literature Review of the Research on Real Estate Financial Risk  [PDF]

Abstract: After a brief conceptual explanation and background introduction of real estate finance and its risks, this paper mainly focuses on the relationship between real estate price fluctuation and financial risk, real estate bubble, the formation and transmission of real estate financial risk, and the control of real estate financial risk. Several research categories were classified and related research was reviewed. In the end, it summarizes and puts forward that China’s research on real estate financial risk also has the following problems and development direction: the research on the connotation of real estate financial risk needs to be improved; the research on real estate bubble needs to be quantified; the research on risk formation needs to be deepened from the mechanism; the research on risk transmission needs to be combined with the reality of China; and the empirical research on real estate financial risk needs to be improved.
Smoothing effect for Boltzmann equation with full-range interactions

Abstract: In this work, we are concerned with the regularities of the solutions to Boltzmann equation with the physical collision kernels for the full range of intermolecular repulsive potentials, $r^{-(p-1)}$ with $p>2$. We give the new and constructive upper and lower bounds for the collision operator in terms of standard fractional Sobolev norm. As an application, we prove that the strong solutions obtained by Desvillettes \& Mouhot \cite{dm} to homogeneous Boltzmann equation and classical solutions obtained by Gressman-Strain \cite{gs1,gs2} or Alexandre-Morimoto-Ukai-Xu-Yang \cite{amuxy3,amuxy5} for the inhomogeneous Boltzmann equation become immediately smooth with respect to all variables. And as another application, we obtain the global entropy dissipation estimate which is a little stronger than the one of Alexandre-Desvillettes-Villani-Wennberg \cite{advw}.
In-plane load measuring technique for the strength test of MEMS micro-cantilever

Abstract: An in-plane load measuring technique is developed to perform the strength test of the micro-cantilever. Based on electromagnetism theorem, Micro UTM (Universal Testing Machine) was in-house made with the load range ±1 N and the displacement range ±300 μm. It applies an in-plane load on the free-end of the micro-cantilever. The load acts as a bending moment for the root of the cantilever, but as a torque for the anchor. The results show that for samples with different sizes the ultimate loads range from 1.3 to 69.8 mN and the calculated torque is approximately proportional to the square of the bonding length. Two failure modes, fracture at the root of the cantilever and fracture at the anchor, are observed by micro examination to the debris, which indicates that there is a critical design to achieve the strength balance between the cantilever and the anchor. The work demonstrates that Micro UTM is a powerful instrument for the strength test of the micro-cantilever and similar micro-structures.
Application of Hierarchical Model in Non-Life Insurance Actuarial Science  [PDF]

Abstract: Loss data structures in non-life insurance businesses are increasingly complex, and the tendency of correlation and heterogeneity is gradually presented. Hierarchical model can breakthrough limitation that the traditional rate determination method only analyzes the loss data of the same insurance policy; meanwhile, the accuracy of complex structure data prediction is improved. This paper, using a hierarchical generalized linear model, studies the non-life rate determination of multi-year loss data and takes auto insurance data for empirical analysis. The research results show that GLMM’s fitting degree is greatly improved compared with GLM, considering the random effects. It can more effectively reflect different risk individual differences and also reveal the heterogeneity and correlation of risk individual loss during multiple insurance periods.
Study on Regional Efficiency and Productivity of Guangdong Province

Abstract: In this paper, Hicks-Moorsteen TFP index is employed to investigate regional efficiency and productivity of 21 cities in Guangdong province during 2000-2015. The findings demonstrate that the efficiency of the whole province first rises and then falls, and has rebounded in recent years. Technical efficiency and scope efficiency have increased, while regional scale efficiency has declined. The Pearl River Delta region has obvious competitive advantages, and scope efficiency alleviates the decline in the efficiency of the non PRD. Secondly, the results indicate that Shenzhen has strong regional development competitiveness, and the economic development efficiency which leads Guangdong province. Thirdly, although the total factor productivity of 21 cities in Guangdong province has increase 0.38 percent with an average level of 1.0165 during this period with a comparatively large fluctuation, the slow growth of technological progress hindered the progress of TFP to some extent. In addition, the TFP level in the PRD region has some advantages over the non PRD region. Finally, as the most efficient city, Shenzhen’s TFP level is in the middle and upper reaches and has great potential.
Using the RDP Classifier to Predict Taxonomic Novelty and Reduce the Search Space for Finding Novel Organisms

Abstract: Background Currently, the na?ve Bayesian classifier provided by the Ribosomal Database Project (RDP) is one of the most widely used tools to classify 16S rRNA sequences, mainly collected from environmental samples. We show that RDP has 97+% assignment accuracy and is fast for 250 bp and longer reads when the read originates from a taxon known to the database. Because most environmental samples will contain organisms from taxa whose 16S rRNA genes have not been previously sequenced, we aim to benchmark how well the RDP classifier and other competing methods can discriminate these novel taxa from known taxa. Principal Findings Because each fragment is assigned a score (containing likelihood or confidence information such as the boostrap score in the RDP classifier), we “train” a threshold to discriminate between novel and known organisms and observe its performance on a test set. The threshold that we determine tends to be conservative (low sensitivity but high specificity) for na?ve Bayesian methods. Nonetheless, our method performs better with the RDP classifier than the other methods tested, measured by the f-measure and the area-under-the-curve on the receiver operating characteristic of the test set. By constraining the database to well-represented genera, sensitivity improves 3–15%. Finally, we show that the detector is a good predictor to determine novel abundant taxa (especially for finer levels of taxonomy where novelty is more likely to be present). Conclusions We conclude that selecting a read-length appropriate RDP bootstrap score can significantly reduce the search space for identifying novel genera and higher levels in taxonomy. In addition, having a well-represented database significantly improves performance while having genera that are “highly” similar does not make a significant improvement. On a real dataset from an Amazon Terra Preta soil sample, we show that the detector can predict (or correlates to) whether novel sequences will be assigned to new taxa when the RDP database “doubles” in the future.
