Capacity Worth of Energy Storage System in Renewable Power Generation Plant  [PDF]

Abstract: With the advance in renewable generation technologies, the cost of renewable energy becomes increasingly competitive when compared to fossil fuel-based generation resources. It is economically beneficial to integrate large amounts of renewable capacity in power systems. Unlike traditional generation facilities, however, using renewable resources for generation presents technical challenges in producing continuous power. In this report, an Energy Storage System (ESS) is integrated to smooth the variations in renewable power production and ensure the output power more controllable. Since it requires capital investment for the storage devices, it is important to obtain reasonable estimate of the storage capacities. This project is therefore formulated as an optimization problem in determining the two dominating factors of the capital cost for the ESS: the power capacity and the energy capacity. The objective is to make the renewable power more reliable and simultaneously maximize the economic benefits that can be obtained from the scheme. To make the results more convincing, analyses in this report start with wind generation, for wind has greater variability and unpredictability than other renewable sources. Selection of ESS type is narrowed down to battery energy storage system (BESS) in the scheme. However, the methods presented here are suitable for any type of energy storage methods and are also useful for intermittent renewable energy resources other than wind.

Effect of Legal Sanction for Shareholders’ Expropriation on the Corporate Valuation  [PDF]

Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to study whether the legal sanction by relevant departments for the majority shareholders’ expropriation affects the valuation of the firms or other shareholders’ interests. This study takes the legal sanction by relevant departments for the majority shareholders’ expropriation as external legal environment change events, so whether the return of the listed company shows significant difference during the window before and after the listed company has been sanctioned by the relevant departments for the majority shareholders’ expropriation will be the judgment whether the sanction has any obvious effect on the listed company and the stock market. The study demonstrates that almost all empirical results show that the positive and negative effects don’t pass the significance test, illustrating that the legal sanction system just has limited effect on the corporate governance of the listed company.

Abstract: The poor quality electricity supply has been recorded as a major problem hampering the operations of SMEs in developing countries, and is more prevalence in Sub-Saharan African countries and some part of the Middle-East. In recent times, access to reliable electricity supply and associated high tariffs is creeping to the top spot of SMEs challenges in Ghana, with SMEs in the country losing over US $686.4 million sales annually since the beginning of 2009. Considering the significant contributions SMEs made towards the socio-economy of countries, if care is not taken to assess the effect of the intermittent power outages on the running of businesses so as to create the awareness to policy formulators in other to find a lasting solution to this canker, then, the demise rate of SMEs will be on the higher pedestal. Against this backdrop, the researchers assess the impact of the power insecurity on the growth of SMEs with a particular study on cold-store operators in Asafo Market of Kumasi in Ghana, since previous researchers have not zoom on small sectors and also did not used case study approach. The research findings indicated that, power outages had a negative effect on SMEs growth, while the cost of operating businesses saw a significant increase under the power outages. Cost of alternative sources of power also significantly pushes the operation cost of businesses high.
SF6 Byproducts in High-Humidity Environment: an Experimental Evaluation between 200oC and 500oC  [PDF]

Abstract: Abstract: In the occurrence of arc discharges, spark discharges, corona discharges and overheated faults in electrical equipment, SF 6would be decomposed to complicated byproducts, such as SO2 , H2S and HF. Analyzing these byproducts is an effective method to judge the internal operation condition of electric equipment. In order to study characters of SF6byproducts at different temperature of overheated faults in the electric equipment, a series of overheated faults of electric equipment were simulated. SF6is very stable and not significantly decomposed at 200oC, 250oC and 300oC. SF6is significantly decomposed to SO2, H2S and HF at 350oC. The concentration of SO2, H2S and HF was 7.2, 1.6 and 1.9 μL/L after heating for 5 hours in environment of SF6with 3616 μL/L water, and it was increased to 23.0, 3.0 and 1.2 μL/L 3 hours later. SF6is more easily to be decomposed and decomposed more rapidly at higher temperature. The concentration of SO2, H2S and HF was 62.2, 15.6 and 3.6 μL/L after heating for 5 hours in environment of SF6with 4064 μL/L water, and it was increased to 91.4, 25.2 and 2.3 μL/L 3 hours later. SF6will be decomposed to format HF, which is strongly corrosive and whose concentration is likely to decrease when it is above a certain concentration.

Abstract: The semirigid vibrating rotor target (SVRT) model for the polyatomic reaction has been applied to the reaction of F+CH4→HF+CH3. The time-dependent wave packet approach has also been used in the calculation. In the current study, reaction probability, cross-section, and rate constant are calculated for the title reaction on the modified J1 (MJ1) potential energy surface (PES). Numerical calculation shows oscillatory structures in the energy dependence of the calculated reaction probability. Those structures are generally associated with broad dynamical resonance. They are almost washed-out in the energy dependence of integral cross-sections due to summation over partial waves. The calculated rate constant is in good agreement with experimental measurement.

Abstract: In this paper, a novel chemiluminescence (CL) method for the determination of tramadol has been developed by combining the flow injection technique and its sensitizing effect on the weak CL reaction between sulfite and acidic KMnO4. A mechanism for the CL reaction has been proposed on the basis of fluorescent and CL spectra. Under the optimized conditions, the proposed method allows the measurement of tramadol hydrochloride over the range of 0.04 - 4 ?g/mLwith a correlation coefficient of 0.9995 (n = 8) and a detection limit of 0.01 ?g/mL (3σ), and the relative standard deviation for 2.0 ?g/mL tramadol (n = 11) is 2.1%. The utility of this method was demonstrated by determining tramadol hydrochloride in tablets and injections.

Abstract: In this paper we consider the high-tech equipment import market in a developing country. We discuss the behaviors of the foreign supplier, the domestic user, the new domestic supplier, and the role that the government can play in such a bi-oligopoly market. We apply both non-cooperative and cooperative game theory to analyze the market, and conduct comparative static and dynamic analysis on the equilibrium outcomes. We point out that government’s intervention may accelerate the market structure evolution and may improve the welfare outcome.

Abstract: Nowadays, globalization increases the integration between countries, leading to the emergence of a global marketplace or a single world market. And, no country or region can develop in self-seclusion. The financial crisis is unprecedented because it comes at a time of radically increased interdependence. What is more, financial turmoil is contagious, moving rapidly from one country to another and spreading very quickly from one economic sector to many others. Since the reform and opening up, China has made remarkable economic achievements. Especially in the economic globalization trend, the financial sector has developed rapidly and its influence on economy is also growing fast. However, along with the rapid development of economy and the outbreak of financial crisis, economic factors play an important role in modern society. Due to the influence of the current global financial and economic crisis, efforts to reach health-related MDGs are confronted with daunting challenges. Public health departments of all countries are faced with increased demand for their services(Liu Zhenmin,2009), the risk of lower services quality, contraction of financial resources as well as a higher risk of a “brain drain” of health professionals. Hence, this paper aims to analyze the impact of the global recession on the health of people in the Chinese mainland and sum up a series of measures to ensure the steady growth of national economy and safeguard the social harmony and stability.
