Studies on the overexpression of the soybean GmNHX1 in Lotus corniculatus: The reduced Na+ level is the basis of the increased salt tolerance

Abstract: The full length cDNA coding for a novel vacuolar Na+/H+ antiporter (GmNHX1) was cloned from soybean and determined to consist of 2591 bp with a 5′-untranslated region of 464 bp, an open reading frame (ORF) of 1641 bp, and a 3′-untranslated region of 486 bp. The deduced protein sequence contains 546 aa with the typical characters of the vacuolar Na+/H+ antiporters, and shares high similarity with that of AtNHX1, OsNHX1 and AgNHX1. The soybean genome showed a single copy of the GmNHX1 gene. Northern blot analysis demonstrated that the expression of the GmNHX1 was tissue-specific, increased by ABA treatment, NaCl, KCl, LiCl and dehydration stress, and lower in leaves but higher in roots and hypocotyls of salt-tolerant than salt-sensitive cultivars. The GmNHX1 was overexpressed under the control of a tandem cauliflower mosaic virus (CaMV) 35S promoter in the model leguminous plant Lotus corniculatus L. and conferred salt-tolerance of the transgenic plants. Measurements of Na+ and K+ contents in both roots and shoots demonstrated that the plantlets of GmNHX1-overexpressing lines had lower Na+ and K+ content, and higher K+/Na+ ratio than the controlled lines that were transformed with the empty vector, which indicates that the salt-tolerance conferred by GmNHX1 is closely related with decreased accumulation of Na+ in the transgenic plants.

Fenofibrate Inhibited the Differentiation of T Helper 17 Cells In Vitro

Abstract: Uncontrolled activity of T cells mediates autoimmune and inflammatory diseases such as multiple sclerosis, inflammatory bowel diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, type 1 diabetes, and atherosclerosis. Recent findings suggest that enhanced activity of interleukin-17 (IL-17) producing T helper 17 cells (Th17 cells) plays an important role in autoimmune diseases and inflammatory diseases. Previous papers have revealed that a lipid-lowering synthetic ligand of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor α (PPARα), fenofibrate, alleviates both atherosclerosis and a few nonlipid-associated autoimmune diseases such as autoimmune colitis and multiple sclerosis. However, the link between fenofibrate and Th17 cells is lacking. In the present study, we hypothesized that fenofibrate inhibited the differentiation of Th17 cells. Our results showed that fenofibrate inhibited transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) and IL-6-induced differentiation of Th17 cells in vitro. However, other PPARα ligands such as WY14643, GW7647 and bezafibrate did not show any effect on Th17 differentiation, indicating that this effect of fenofibrate might be PPARα independent. Furthermore, our data showed that fenofibrate reduced IL-21 production and STAT3 activation, a critical signal in the Th17 differentiation. Thus, by ameliorating the differentiation of Th17 cells, fenofibrate might be beneficial for autoimmunity and inflammatory diseases. 1. Introduction Abnormal T-cell activity plays a central role in autoimmune diseases and inflammatory diseases [1]. Th17 cells represent a novel subset of CD4+ T cells, characterized by the secretion of a high level of IL-17. Despite controversial results [2], accumulating evidence has suggested that Th17 cells mediate various autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, including multiple sclerosis [3], inflammatory bowel diseases [4], rheumatoid arthritis [5], type 1 diabetes [6], and atherosclerosis [7–9], and interfering IL-17 may be beneficial for the above diseases. Atherosclerosis has long been recognized as a chronic autoimmune and inflammatory disease [10]. Although one pioneer study has shown a deteriorating effect by blocking Th17 cells [11], recent independent studies have indicated IL-17 as major pathogenic cytokine during atherogenesis [7–9]. Abstract: Two types of coronary artery system N-type and S-type, are investigated. The threshold conditions for the occurrence of Smale horseshoe chaos are obtained by using Melnikov method. Numerical simulations including phase portraits, potential diagram, homoclinic bifurcation curve diagrams, bifurcation diagrams, and Poincaré maps not only prove the correctness of theoretical analysis but also show the interesting bifurcation diagrams and the more new complex dynamical behaviors. Numerical simulations are used to investigate the nonlinear dynamical characteristics and complexity of the two systems, revealing bifurcation forms and the road leading to chaotic motion. Finally the chaotic states of the two systems are effectively controlled by two control methods: variable feedback control and coupled feedback control.

Abstract: During the last few years, large-scale enterprises that engage in commercial cultivation of edible mushrooms have been growing at a very fast pace, bringing about new changes to the industrial structure of the edible mushroom industry. Co-existence of large-scale enterprises and small-scale farmers has become the long-term status quo of the edible mushroom industry. How to promote proportional development for these two important industrial bodies has become a pressing issue for the edible mushroom industry in Shandong Province. This paper studies Co-opetition in the edible mushroom industry in Shandong Province, in regard to aspects and effect on industrial competition pattern, motives, benefits, potential challenges and evolution of co-opetition. This paper concludes that by carrying out price insurance on edible mushrooms, developing intermediary organizations and reinforcing government support, co-opetition between the two will become more efficient, which in turn, will promote the evolution to the mode of “balanced co-opetition” and optimize the organization of the edible mushroom industry.
Selective Hybrid Encryption Algorithms for Secure Transmission of Electrical Energy Data

Abstract: The encryption algorithms previously proposed usually encrypt every data of electrical energy in order to maintain security and safety. However, the quantity of electrical energy data to be transmitted is very large and a majority of them are encrypted, so the encryption algorithms previously proposed increase the burden of communications and reduce the transmission efficiency. In this study, A Selective Hybrid Encryption Algorithm for secure transmission of electrical energy data is presented. The algorithm is based on SSL (Secure Sockets Layer). It adopts Encryption Algorithm AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) to encrypt important data of electrical energy and uses SHA-1(Secure Hash Algorithm) to get message digest. At the same time, The algorithm make also use of ECC Elliptic Curves Cryptography and AES to transmit data. With the method, the data of electrical energy encrypted can be transmitted highly active and safely.
Effects of strontium and boron interactions in Al-7Si alloys

Abstract: Effects of boron and strontium combined treatment on the microstructure of hypoeutectic Al-7Si alloy have been studied. Experimental results show that strontium has no significant effect on the grain refinement efficiency of boron and the eutectic silicon modification efficiency is not only related to the strontium content but also related to the boron content in the Al-7Si alloy melt. There is a negative interaction between boron and strontium that results in the formation of a strontium-boron-aluminum containing compound, which reduces the effective strontium level and decreases the eutectic silicon modification efficiency substantially. The refinement and modification mechanisms remain unchanged after the combined addition of strontium and boron. Based on the experimental results, a model for assessing the modification level in the Al-Si alloy melts after combined addition of boron and strontium was presented.

Abstract:

Soy sauce by a high salt liquid-state fermentation process was prepared using the organic soy beans as raw material. Beidahuang organic soy bean was selected among different raw materials. Here, the best technique was determined. Firstly, the organic soy beans were soaked for 7 hours under 121℃, steamed for 15 min and mixed with the fried wheat (5:5, w/w). After inoculated with Aspergillus oryzae 3.042 (0.3%, w/w) and cultured for 36 hours, the koji was obtained. When the brine (2:1, w/w) was added, fermentation started. At the end of the fermentation, isoflavone content of organic soy sauce was 0.22 mg· g-1 higher than those in the non- organic soy beans. In addition, compared to the control there were a higher unsaturated fatty acids content, the linoleic acid content in crude fat of 51.61% and γ-linolenic acid content in crude fat of 0.55%.

Anomalous temperature dependence of the electrical resistivity of molten Sb

Abstract: Using the d.c. four-probe method, the electrical resistivity of high-purity liquid Sb has been accurately measured as functions of temperature. It is observed that the resistivity of liquid Sb changes abnormally with increasing temperature, which is very different from that of simple liquid metals. Based on the reported structure factor at several temperatures, the results obtained in this work have been discussed and interpreted qualitatively according to Ziman theory. The analysis suggests that the existence of shortrange order structure near the melting point can account for the abnormal phenomenon observed in the resistivity of liquid Sb, in which semimetal-metal transaction takes place in the melting process. At the same time, the progress of the structure change of liquid Sb with temperature has also been pointed out.
