Abstract: Diet and habitat overlaps were studied for the leaf monkey (Presbytis rubicunda) and bornean white-bearded gibbons (Hylobates albibarbis) in tropical forest of Cabang Panti Research Station (CPRS), Gunung Palung National Park, West Kalimantan. Systematic data on feeding and ranging behaviour were collected from August 2009 up to February 2010 for the three groups of two sympatric primate species that shared two neighbouring patches. Our results showed that seven types of habitat in CPRS were affected to both primates, particularly in plant utilization for feed and the use of vertical space patterns. If the leaf monkeys were present in the same forest patch, the Bornean white-bearded gibbons showed a reduced within-group dispersal and significantly less foraging time in a given forest patch. This might be due to the bornean white-bearded gibbons were more selective in their diet selection. When fruits were scarce, bornean white-bearded gibbons spent most of their foraging time in many types of forest ecosystem, while leaf monkey foraged within one or two types of forest ecosystem. At this period, diet and habitat overlaps between the two species were low. When the availability of fruits increased, leaf monkeys shifted their foraging range and both species became confined to the forest habitat. Consequently, the overlaps of diets and habitats were increased while the peak was at the end of the fruit season.

Abstract: Santosa Y, Kusmardiastuti, Kartono AP, Rahman DA. 2012. Determination of long-tailed macaque’s (Macaca fascicularis) harvesting quotas based on demographic parameters. Biodiversitas 13: 79-85. Harvesting quota of long-tailed macaques for breeding purpose should be set up based on demographic parameters. The objectives of this research were to determine demographic parameters affecting the set up of harvesting quota and the sustainable harvesting quotas of long-tailed macaca in Indonesia. This study was expected to provide useful information for consideration of setting up harvesting quotas for long-tailed macaque in Indonesia. This study was conducted in November 2009-Januari 2010 using the equation of Q = Nt-MVP. The results showed varied harvesting quotas for different age classes of long-tailed macaque with an average number of 5 for infant males, 3 for infant females, 5 for juvenile males, 4 for juvenile females, 6 for sub-adult males, 8 for sub-adult females and 2 for adult males. The dominant variable determining quota was survival rate.

Abstract: The ranging behaviour of translocated problem tigers is poorly understood. The demand for releasing problem tigers back to the wild increases following the increasing the number of problem tigers that needs to be rescued in Sumatra in the last decade. In this study we estimate the home range size and obtain information on daily range of four translocated problem tigers, as well as discussing some potential factors determining the size of home range and their movement. We translocated four adult males Sumatran tigers (Panthera tigris sumatrae) caught after killing domestic animals or rescued from traps set up by villagers for capturing deer and wild boar. The tigers were released following 16-225 days rehabilitation. All were fitted with global positioning system collars and released 74-1,350 km from their capture site. The length of time needed by each tiger for establishing home range was between 6 and 13 weeks. The home range size of each individual tiger estimated with 100% minimum convex polygon varies between 67.1 km2 and 400 km2, while estimations with a 95% fixed kernel methods were between 37.5 km2 and 188.1 km2. The difference in home range size established by each translocated tigers indicates the variability of the range size even within a subspecies. The maximum distance moved each tiger in one day was different, the range was 8.5-18.9 km. Although preliminary, these data may be useful for improving future translocation of problem tiger, as this study was the first ever conducted in Sumatra.

Abstract: Optimization technique has been growing rapidly throughout the years. It is caused by the growing complexity of problems that require a relatively long time to solve using exact optimization approach. One of complex problems that is hard to solve using the exact method is Generalized Orienteering Problem (GOP), a combinatorial problem including NP-hard problem. Recently, there has been plenty of heuristic method development to solve this problem. This research is an implementation of cross entropy (CE) method in real case of GOP. CE is an optimization technique that relatively new, using two main procedures; generating sample solution and parameter updating to produce better sample for next iteration. At this research, GOP problem that occurs at finding optimal route consist of 27 cities in eastern China is investigated. Results indicate that CE method give better performance than those of Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Harmony Search (HS).

Abstract:

A research has been conducted to estimate earthquake source parameters that occurred on June 3rd, 13th, 18th and 19th, 2008. The data used to determine the parameters of earthquakes source are three components local waveform that are recorded by three MY broadband stations (IPM, KOM and KUM) and PSI, Poseidon. In this research, we report a focal mechanism of events using three components local waveform analysis. The seismogram data are inverted to achieve the earthquake source parameters. Source parameters of earthquakes extracted after the reduction variant of each event are over 56%. To identify the fault plane, the HC-plot method is used.

Abstract: The implementation of e-business and e-commerce provide the value of virtual computer-based interactions and transactions. It causes the traditional value chain that revealed the sequentially flowed business process shifts to the customer-oriented value chain that are not sequential anymore. This paper will discuss about how the integration of e-commerce or e-business changes the way business work within its organization itself and between its trading partners and customers in the shipping and warehousing industry. It will be done in accordance to the strategy that is used by the company. Also, it will discuss the competitions in this industry at a glance. Since new business models are necessary to integrate e-commerce initiatives with overall business goals and strategy, then, this paper will take a closer look at the use of such technology to conduct business in order to be a leader in their industry and to leverage the business competitive advantages. How Fedex, as a leader in shipping and warehousing industry, build its e-commerce will be presented in detail to drive the readers understanding to this topic. Finally, this paper will discuss about its implication to the accounting profession.

Abstract: The emerging of the internet and world wide web as enabler of electronic commerce has resulted in some complexities for accountants in conducting their engagement. In electronic commerce, which trading activities have been facilitated with computer network such as intranet, extranet or internet, internal control structure has become more complicated than those without network. Confidentiality, integrity, authenticity and non-repudiation are some of the major complex issues in the application of electronic commerce these days. Those complexities, which do not occur in non computer-based trading, are based on the fact that electronic commerce not only involves accounting disiplines but also technical comprehension from other diciplines. Accountants find difficulties in facing the internal control issues in computer-based information system environment, especially in a situation that business has already been implementing computer network in conducting its primary and support activities. This article will discuss material related to the current issues of internal control structure, the implication of electronic commerce on internal control structure and opportunities for accountants. Abstract in Bahasa Indonesia : Kemunculan internet dan world wide web sebagai dasar berkembangnya perdagangan elektronik atau electronic commerce telah menimbulkan permasalahan yang cukup pelik bagi seorang akuntan dalam menjalankan penugasannya.

Abstract: Treating several animated films as texts, the analysis of this particular genre of entertainment is using structuralist narratology, which is applied to establish a general grammar of Disney long animations by revealing the underlying rules governing the tilm narratives. Discussing the typical characters and actions, the construction of "function", and the significant actions which shape the story, this study reveals the six actant/roles based on the prescribed characterization, three basic patterns of how each actant is related to one another, and the twelve sets of basic arrangement of functions as the single basic structure of all Disney long animations. This study proves how loyal and consistent the creators of Disney long animations are toward the underlying basic structure of the story.
THE CHARACTERISTICS OF PRIMITIVISM IN ERNEST HEMINGWAY'S THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA

K@ta : a Biannual Publication on the Study of Language and Literature , 2002,
Abstract: Authors of any periods unconsciously tend to explore the sublimity and free expression of feeling, the simplicity of style and themes, the portrayal of the 'noble savage', the glorification of nature, the excitement of physical power and sensuous use of language. These are the characteristics of primitivism, the celebration of an earlier stage of human development, which is uncorrupted, vigorous, genuine expression of life. Ernest Hemingway's The Old Man and the Sea clearly depicts the characteristics of primitivism as seen in the portrayal of its main character, Santiago. Hemingway's regret on the impact of technology led him to write the novella with its hero who is depicted with the qualities of being a true hero, a winner 'who takes nothing' ; a 'noble savage' with great courage of physical action while dealing with nature. Santiago has become the portrayal of Hemingway's criticism toward the development of civilization and the urban way of life.

Abstract: Rice domestic demand is steadily increase due to population’s growth, to increase rice production by increasing dosage of inorganic fertilizer and pesticide could not increase rice yield due to bad soil condition. These condition need improvement because soil is the source of life for soil micro-organism and biological activities. To overcome the problem, the farmers are supposed to be educated and trained to be able to analyze and study and practice plant cultivation emphasizing on local potential management. Rice Organic Farming (ROF) is intensive and efficient paddy cultivation with the management process of root system based on soil, plant and water management. The method of ROF was Rapid Rural Appraisal with Partisipatory Rural Appaisal, continue with Farmers group Development Plant and farmers learning by doing the programme in their own land. The result after three planting season indicate that farmers confidentwith ROF, used 10 tons/ ha organic fertilizer and natural enemies for plant protection, increased rice production from 5.440 ton/ ha to 9.733 ton/ ha and natural enemies is the best solution to manage pest and diseases.
