Revista Cubana de Plantas Medicinales , 2003,
Abstract: the acute toxicity of a dry drug obtained from epilobium parvioflorum l. recommended for its administration in the form of decoction was determined. the drug was orally administered to wistar rats (150-200 g) by the limited dose trial at 2000 mg/kg. the animals were under observation during 14 days and at the end of this period they were sacrificed to perform the autopsy. a macroscopic examination of organs and tissues was made as well as an histological analysis of heart, kidney, lung, liver, spleen, brain and genitalia. the relative weight of ovaries, testicles, seminal vesicle and prostate was also determined. as a result, it was observed that the substance did not present either important toxicity or mortality. the alterations found in the histological analysis of the organs were attributed to artifacts originated in the sacrifice of animals. the statistical processing of the relative weight of the analyzed organs did not show significant differences as regards the control group. it was concluded that the dry drug of epilobium parviflorum l, is not toxic, according to the established classification criterion.

Revista Cubana de Plantas Medicinales , 2003,
Abstract: the phototoxic effect of a preparation for veterinary use denominated cikron-h obtained from the extract of the cortex of mangrove tree was evaluated in an in vivo model. hartley albinic guinea pigs with body weight between 300 and 500 g were used. all the animals were previously depilated and shaved in the scapular region and they were administered a dose of 50.4 j/cm2 of uva light during a period of 2 hours. these effects were observed immediately after the irradiation at 24, 48 and 72 hours. draize's scale was applied to evaluate skin lesions. in the observation carried out at 24 hours it was found a degree iii erythema in the skin of all male and female animals that was constant for 72 hours. from the histological point of view, these alterations were not severe enough to characterize a phototoxic response. in the observation made at 24 hours in the placebo, it was observed a degree i erythema in the skin of all animals. on the microscope, in the case of females, it was observed a very mild edema, whereas among males the skin was practically normal. finally, it should be stressed that the microscopic observations found did not confirm the appearance of a phototoxic response of cikron-h.

The antiarthritic effect of oily ginger solution (MVZ), induced by subplantar administration of Freund's complete adjuvant in rats, was evaluated. The animals were subjected to different treatments and the inflammation percentage was determined. A tolerance assay was also made with albinic mice that were put on a 4-hour fasting and later were administered 1 mL/20 g of MVZ by oral route. The toxic symptoms were registered and the macroscopic examination of the main organs was made at the end of the study. The MVZ at the assayed doses inhibited the induced inflammation. The dose of 6,5 mL/kg of the assay substance 30 days after the administration of the complete Freund's adjuvant presented an antiinflammatory effect higher than that showed by tenoxicam at doses of 2,5 mg/kg. In the tolerance assay carried out, the MVZ did not produce toxicity signs, mortality, or macroscopic alterations of the main organs.

Revista Cubana de Farmacia , 2010,
Abstract: as part of the technological process optomization to obtain calcium citrate and magnesium from dolomites, we studied at bench scale, the washout stage to decrease the free citric acid content. washout variants allowed to decrease the free citric acid content under 3 %, whereas the calcium and magnesium values are similar to those of batch before to carry out the wahout process. on the other hand, toxicity study in rats, proved that the batches where different washout variables were applied not provoke gastric irritability at doses of 2 000 mg/kg of body weight confirming that above mentioned established process is approproate to guarantee the raw material quality.

Revista Cubana de Plantas Medicinales , 2003,
Abstract: the oily extract of melanthera deltoidea mitch has proved to have anesthetic, analgesic and antiinflammatory properties in previous trials. as these characteristics make it attractive for its use in dentistry, it is important to know its toxic potential in preclinical trials. the oily extract of melanthera deltoiodea mitch was evaluated in a trial of acute oral toxicity in rats and of irritation of the oral mucous membrane in hamsters at repeated doses. female wistar rats (200-300 g) were orally administered at a unique dose of 1 000 mg/kg, whereas golden syrian female hamsters (50-60 g) were administered the oily extract at 35 % in the right gular pocket during the 14 days of treatment. no mortality was reported in the trial of acute toxicity and it was obtained an index of irritation of the oral mucous membrane of 10.25. the oily extract was classified as moderately irritant.

RETEL : Revista de Toxicología en Línea , 2010,
Abstract: DI-31 is a semi-synthetic brassinosteroid analogue obtained in the Faculty of Chemistry of the Havana University. This product improves crops yield and quality, as well as enhances plants tolerance to water and salt stresses. The goal of the present work was the evaluation of the contact toxicity of DI-31 on bees. The substance assayed was topically applied in one dose of 100 μg per bee. Two hundred bees of the Apis mellifera species were used. The appearance of signs of toxicity and the mortality at 4, 24 and 48 hours after administration were scored (OECD, 1998). The results showed that bees treated did not present any sign of toxicity derived from the product assayed. Taking into account the results from this assay, it can be concluded that toxic effects of DI-31 on Apis mellifera are unlikely.

RETEL : Revista de Toxicología en Línea , 2010,
Abstract: DI-31 is a brassinosteroid analogue obtained at the Chemistry Faculty of the Havana University. Brassinosteroids are a family of natural steroidal compounds from plants, which are able to improve yields and protect crops from abiotic and abiotic stresses (Krishna, 2003).Lack of toxicity of DI-31 for mammals has been previously reported (Pérez et al 1996), as well as the sensitivity of arthropods (microcrustaceans and insects) to DI-31 (Pérez et al 2007). Primary ecotoxicological studies with systemic focus in aquatic organisms were performed in 2007 (Pérez et al, unpublished).Since the contact safety of DI-31 for bees was recently demonstrated, the present study was aimed to the ecotoxicological evaluation by oral administration to the same species. The substance studied was supplied in the honey at a dose of 100 μg per bee. Three hundred and sixty bees of the species Apis mellifera, divided into three experimental groups, were used. The appearance of signs of toxicity and the mortality at 4, 24 and 48 hours after administration were scored (OECD, 1998). The bees treated did not present any sign of toxicity derived from the product assayed. These results take to the conclusion that DI-31 do not produce toxic effects by oral way in Apis mellifera.

Abstract: In this paper we study the set of ℊ-valued functions which can be approximated by ℊ-valued continuous functions in the norm Lℊ∞(I,w), where I⊂ℝ is a compact interval, ℊ is a separable real Hilbert space and w is a certain ℊ-valued weakly measurable weight. Thus, we obtain a new extension of the celebrated Weierstrass approximation theorem.
