Abstract: Objective: Morbidity and mortality rates due to acute renal failure (ARF) developed in the postoperative period in patients undergoing coronary artery by-pass surgery (CABG), are increasing. After the determination of risk factors for the development of ARF in the perioperative period, treatment strategies to prevent the development of ARF can be implemented. Methods: Three hundred and nine patients who had undergone isolated CABG between May 2005 and December 2006 were included in the study. Patients’ data registered in the preoperative, intra-operative, and postoperative periods were collected in the electronic media. Factors possibly affecting the development of ARF in the postoperative period were determined by univariate analysis. Later, the independent risk factors affecting the development of ARF were determined by multivariate analysis. Results: Univariate analysis showed that there was a relation between old age, low ejection fraction (EF) in the preoperative period, presence of COPD, high preoperative serum creatinine levels, long CPB duration, the requirement of intra-operative inotropic support, the amount of postoperative mediastinal drainage, peak creatinine levels, the amount of blood transfusions and postoperative ARF development. At the end of the evaluation of these factors with multivariate analysis; old age, high creatinine levels in the preoperative period, the requirement of inotropic support during the operation and increased amounts of postoperative mediastinal drainage were found to be independent risk factors for the development of ARF.Conclusions: ARF development is found to be higher in patients with old age, low EF, impaired preoperative renal functions. We suggest that implementing a close follow up with appropriate measures forthese patients can decrease the risk of ARF development postoperatively.
Comments on: “Comparison of microbiological results of deep tissue biopsy and superficial swab in diabetic foot infections”

Journal of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases , 2012,
Abstract: We read the article by Bozkurt et al., which assessedthe reliability of superficial swabs in diabeticfoot ulcers with great interest.1 We believethat including anaerobic culture results is an importantstrength of their study, as this may helpthe clinician guide the empiric antimicrobial treatmentdecision. This paper will not only provide aconsiderable contribution to the clinicians in diagnosingand treating diabetic foot infections but willalso serve as a referring source in reflecting thecurrent microbiological etiology of these woundsin Turkey. However, we have some remarks concerningthe methodology and conclusions.
X and γ-rays emission probabilities of 131I and 133Xe  [PDF]

Natural Science (NS) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/ns.2011.37084
Abstract: Radioactive nuclides as 131I and 133Xe are increasingly used for both clinical diagnosis and therapeutic treatment of the patient. For example, 131I is used for the treatment of thyroid gland cancer. Otherwise, 133Xe is used in ventilation studies to assess and evaluate pulmonary function and to provide images of the lungs in both cardiac and pulmonary diseases, such as asthma, pulmonary emphysema, bronchiectasis, carcinoma of the lung, and pulmonary embolism [1,2]. Furthermore, cerebral blood flow is measured using 133Xe inhalation. In this study, the X and γ-rays emission probabilities in the decay of 131I and 133Xe were precisely measured with a calibrated Si(Li) detector. Results of this study were compared using available results in the literature. Good agreement was observed between our results and available results in the literature.

Abstract: Matrix methods, now-a-days, are playing an important role in solving the real life problems governed by ODEs and/or by PDEs. Many differential models of sciences and engineers for which the existing methodologies do not give reliable results, these methods are solving them competitively. In this work, a matrix methods is presented for approximate solution of the second-order singularly-perturbed delay differential equations. The main characteristic of this technique is that it reduces these problems to those of solving a system of algebraic equations, thus greatly simplifying the problem. The error analysis and convergence for the proposed method is introduced. Finally some experiments and their numerical solutions are given.

International Journal of Human Sciences , 2013,
Abstract: The aim of this study is to asses and determines the knowledge level of pregnant women about the exercises during pregnancy. This study was carried out between the dates of April 2010- July 2010, for a comprehensive quality antenatal follow in Mehmetbey Birth and Child Hospital, since the first three-month period regularly, 126 pregnant women included in this study (average age 31; delivery 15-44). Data were analyzed through SPSS 14.version of packet program. Chi-Square test was used in the statistical assessment and the figure of p<0.05 was accepted as the statistical significance. At the end of the study, it was found that the knowledge level of the pregnant women who are between the age of 31-39, university graduates pregnant was higher than the others. It was seen that the pregnant women has knowledge about the exercises performed during pregnancy but they do not have sufficient and true knowledge about the exercises performed in pregnancy.

Beytulhikme : An International Journal of Philosophy , 2011,
Abstract: This essay deals with the concept of self as it was conceived by the modern philosophers such as Descartes, Hume, and Kant. Modern philosophers understood this concept in essentially two different senses. While the empiricists conceived self as an object, the rationalists saw it as a subject. On the other hand, Kant, who was neither an empiricist nor a rationalist, understood self in its both senses. The ontological status of the concept of self cannot, of course, be separated from its epistemological status, that is, from how it is known. While the rationalists such as Descartes, Spinoza, and Leibniz thought that self-knowledge is the most certain knowledge, the empiricists such as Hume thought that self-knowledge is no different from all other knowledge in terms of certainty. Kant, on the other hand, tried to syntesize these two different poles by separating the objective aspect and the subjective aspect of the self.

Abstract: Ukraine is an significant country not only from the aspect of the Black Sea Basin where it situates, but also with its political characteristics effecting beyond the regional diameter. This does not stem directly from Ukraine’s power but from its distinguished geopolitical position. Ethnically-politically divided structure of the country has been the starting point for analysis on each election. The process known as “Orange Revolution” of 2004-2005 concluded with failure because of various reasons, and, anew raising of the “Blues” who connotes “Russia” against the “Oranges” is being observed. However, because of structural reasons, it became difficult for the farewell to Orange wind to convert the anti-West attitude an official policy. In this study, Ukraine victory of Russia is examined within the frame of progressing West-Russia strategic relations.

International Journal of Human Sciences , 2012,
Abstract: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships between parental behavioral control, psychological control and self-esteem, life satisfaction, antisocial behaviors and depression among Turkish adolescents. Participants for the present study consisted of 333 adolescents (168 girls, 163 boys) between the age of 13 to 15 with a mean of 13.90 (SD=.514) years. Participants completed measures on behavioral control, psychological control and self-esteem, life satisfaction, antisocial behaviors and depression. Hierarchical regression analyses indicated that behavioral control positively predicted life satisfaction, self-esteem, and negatively predicted antisocial behaviors and depression. Psychological control was significantly and positively predicted antisocial behaviors and depression, negatively predicted life satisfaction. Present study provided evidence for the role of behavioral and psychological control in adolescents’ self-esteem, life satisfaction, depression and antisocial behaviors. Also, findings underscore the role of differential associations of parental behavioral and psychological control with the well-being and ill-being of adolescents. Findings were discussed in terms of implications for parent education programs and family intervention program.
