Feature Point Correspondence of Image Sequence Based on Neural Networks

Abstract: This paper proposes an approach to feature point correspondence of image sequence based on neural networks. We formulate the correspondence problem as a constrained optimization problem and propose a 2D Hopfield neural network to solve it. The design of energy function of neural network has ranged over the results of visual tracking and the condition of occlusion. Therefore, it can solve the problem of error correspondence resulting from current existing methods. The correct correspondence of the first three frames is very important for the point tracking. This paper develops a 3D Hopfield network to handle the correspondence of the first three frames and proposes a cost function of motion smoothness to formulate the energy function of 3D Hopfield network. Experiment on a real image sequence demonstrates the feasibility of the approach.
Reconfigurable Bandstop Filter with Adjustable Bandwidth and Center Frequency

Abstract: A bandstop filter with reconfigurable two-state center frequency and bandwidth is presented. The prototype of the proposed reconfigurable bandstop filter consists of one section of anti-coupled line short-circuited by an open low-impedance line. By introducing PIN diodes, this bandstop filter exhibits a lower stopband response centered at a lower frequency in the ON state, and a wider stopband response centered at a higher frequency in the OFF state. Filter using the proposed structure is designed, simulated and measured. The results confirm the designing method by showing a narrow stopband with the center frequency of 1 GHz and a wide stopband of 2.9 GHz bandwidth centered at 2.5 GHz respectively.
Microsurgical removal of brainstem cavernoma: A report of 42 cases

Abstract: Objective To summarize the clinical features and the surgical approach and techniques for microsurgical removal of brainstem cavernoma, and to evaluate the efficacy of surgical treatment of brainstem cavernoma. Methods The clinical data of 41 brainstem cavernoma patients treated by microsurgical resection from January 2003 to April 2011 were retrospectively analyzed, and they were 23 males and 18 females, aged 8 to 62 years. The clinical presentations included signs and symptoms of increased intracranial pressure, such as headache and dizziness, long-tract signs such as cranial nerve dysfunction, numbness and decrease in muscle strength, and ataxia. According to the site of the lesions, surgical approaches were selected following the principle of "the shortest distance between the incision and the lesion". Intraoperative short-latency somatosensory evoked potential (SSEP) and auditory evoked potential (AEP) were monitored. Results Total resection of cavernoma was achieved in 35 patients, small residual tumor was left in 6 with giant lesions. No death occurred. Twenty-seven patients showed improvement in nerve function. Aggravation of pre-existing neurological disorders or appearance of new neurological disorders was found in 14 patients, including 2 with respiratory dysfunction who regained spontaneous breathing after assisted respiration for one week. Follow-up was carried out for 38 months in average. Neurological deficits have been restored in most patients, and no recurrence was found except for 1 case of re-bleeding from residual tumor. Conclusions According to the lesion site and protruding direction, individualized surgical approach can be selected following the "shortest distance" principle for the resection of brainstem cavernoma. The application of intraoperative navigation and electrophysiological monitoring of the brainstem is helpful in reducing surgical injury and decreasing the complications.
Clinical characteristics of multiple and multilocular brain abscesses

Abstract: Objective  To determine whether there are differences in the bacteriology, predisposing factors, treatment option and outcome between single, multiple and multilocular pyogenic brain abscess. Methods  We studied clinical data of 85 patients with pyogenic brain abscess collected during a 20-year period, including 52 cases of single, 15 multiple and 18 multilocular abscesses. Results  The incidence of multiple and multilocular abscesses was 17.6% and 21.2%, respectively. Hematogenous spread from a remote infectious focus was the most common cause of infection for multiple (73.3%) and multilocular (50.0%) abscesses. Fever, headache, nausea and vomiting were the most common symptoms in patients with multiple and multilocular abscesses. Staphylococci aureuswas the most commonly isolated pathogen in patients with multiple and multilocular abscess. Stereotactic aspiration of the abscess was performed for most of the patients, and the rate of re-operation was 2.2% for single, 2.7% for multiple and 30.8% for multilocular abscess, respectively. Mortality rate was 0.0% for single, 20.0% for multiple and 0.0% for multilocular abscess, respectively. Conclusions  Multiple and multilocular pyogenic brain abscesses are not rare and their clinical characteristics are different from that of single abscess. Stereotactic operation is still the first treatment choice, but repeated aspiration maybe needed for some patients with multilocular abscess. Neurological status and seriousness of the illness before the operation were the most important factors influencing the prognosis.
Expression and functional role of S phase kinase associated protein 2 (Skp2) in development of glioma

Abstract: Objective To study the expression and functional role of S phase kinase associated protein 2 (Skp2) in development of glioma. Methods Sixty surgically removed specimens of primary glioma and 4 normal brain specimens were obtained from the Department of Neurosurgery, Navy General Hospital of PLA, from June 2001 to June 2006. All the specimens were graded according to WHO Criteria as astrocytoma (grade Ⅱ, n=20), anaplastic astrocytoma (grade Ⅲ, n=20) and glioblastoma (grade Ⅳ, n=20). Western blotting and immunohistochemistry were used to detect the expression of Skp2 in specimens of glioma of different grades and normal brain tissue. Results Western blotting demonstrated that the expression of Skp2 in normal brain tissue was significantly lower than that in glioma specimens, and the expression increased in degree along with the elevation of malignant grade. Immunohistochemical staining showed that the Skp2 positively expressed in both the normal brain tissues and gliomas. However, Skp2 was weakly positive and mainly found in the cytoplasm in normal brain tissue and low grade glioma (grade Ⅱ), while it was strongly positive and mainly observed in the nuclei in high grade glioma (grade Ⅲ and Ⅳ). Furthermore, the positive expression of Skp2 was also observed in vascular endothelial cells of glioma tissue, and the glioma cells with positive Skp2 were found to gather around the vessels in glioma specimens. Statistically analysis showed that the expression of Skp2 was significantly higher in high grade glioma tissues (grade Ⅲ and Ⅳ) than in normal brain tissues and low grade glioma (grade Ⅱ) with significant difference (P < 0.01). Conclusions Along with the increase in malignancy of glioma, the expression of Skp2 was found increasing gradually, and it transferred from cytoplasm to nuclei. Skp2 positively expressed in both vascular endothelial cells of glioma tissue and the glioma cells around vessels in glioma specimens. The change in Skp2 expression might be closely related to an increase in malignancy of glioma, the formation of new vessels, and metastasis of tumor cells.
Previously Unrecognized Ornithuromorph Bird Diversity in the Early Cretaceous Changma Basin, Gansu Province, Northwestern China

Abstract: Here we report on three new species of ornithuromorph birds from the Lower Cretaceous Xiagou Formation in the Changma Basin of Gansu Province, northwestern China: Yumenornis huangi gen. et sp. nov., Changmaornis houi gen. et sp. nov., and Jiuquanornis niui gen. et sp. nov.. The last of these is based on a previously published but unnamed specimen: GSGM-05-CM-021. Although incomplete, the specimens can be clearly distinguished from each other and from Gansus yumenensis Hou and Liu, 1984. Phylogenetic analysis resolves the three new taxa as basal ornithuromorphs. This study reveals previously unrecognized ornithuromorph diversity in the Changma avifauna, which is largely dominated by Gansus but with at least three other ornithuromorphs. Body mass estimates demonstrate that enantiornithines were much smaller than ornithuromorphs in the Changma avifauna. In addition, Changma enantiornithines preserve long and recurved pedal unguals, suggesting an arboreal lifestyle; in contrast, Changma ornithuromorphs tend to show terrestrial or even aquatic adaptions. Similar differences in body mass and ecology are also observed in the Jehol avifauna in northeastern China, suggesting niche partitioning between these two clades developed early in their evolutionary history.

Abstract: The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C20H15N2P, contains two independent molecules with similar structures. The 1,5-naphthyridine ring system is nearly planar, with maximum deviations of 0.010 (3) and 0.012 (3) ; its mean plane is oriented with respect to the two phenyl rings at 79.69 (12) and 84.00 (10)° in one molecule, and at 74.25 (12) and 82.05 (11)° in the other. The two phenyl rings are twisted with respect to each other with a dihedral angle of 75.96 (14)° in one molecule and 86.30 (13)° in the other.

Abstract: 采用封顶埋管法对贺兰山西坡不同海拔梯度上土壤铵态氮(NH4+N)和硝态氮(NO3-N)以及N净矿化速率进行了研究。结果表明:①在海拔1 370-2 940 m的范围内,土壤铵态氮和硝态氮含量随海拔高度的降低而降低。②土壤N净矿化速率随海拔高度的降低呈现出明显的“V”字型变化规律,在海拔2 940 m处最高(平均为0.272 mg.kg^-1.d^-1),在海拔2 100 m处最低(平均为0.001 mg.kg^-1.d^-1),之后又随海拔高度的降低而上升,在海拔1 370 m处达到0.136 mg.kg^-1.d^-1的水平。③回归分析显示,土壤矿化氮含量(NH4+N+NO3-N)与土壤含水量、全氮、有机质、群落中植物密度、地上生物量呈极显著正相关,与土壤容重、pH值呈极显著负相关。但土壤N净矿化速率与土壤含水量、全氮、有机质、容重、pH值之间却没有相关性。
G protein-coupled receptor kinase 5 mediates Tazarotene-induced gene 1-induced growth suppression of human colon cancer cells

Abstract: TIG1A and TIG1B stable clones derived from HCT116 and SW620 colon cancer cells were established using the GeneSwitch system; TIG1 isoform expression was induced by mifepristone treatment. Cell growth was assessed using the WST-1 cell proliferation and colony formation assays. RNA interference was used to examine the TIG1 mediating changes in cell growth. Gene expression profiles were determined using microarray and validated using real-time polymerase chain reaction, and Western blot analyses.Both TIG1 isoforms were expressed at high levels in normal prostate and colon tissues and were downregulated in colon cancer cell lines. Both TIG1 isoforms significantly inhibited the growth of transiently transfected HCT116 cells and stably expressing TIG1A and TIG1B HCT116 and SW620 cells. Expression of 129 and 55 genes was altered upon induction of TIG1A and TIG1B expression, respectively, in stably expressing HCT116 cells. Of the genes analysed, 23 and 6 genes were upregulated and downregulated, respectively, in both TIG1A and TIG1B expressing cells. Upregulation of the G-protein-coupled receptor kinase 5 (GRK5) was confirmed using real-time polymerase chain reaction and Western blot analyses in both TIG1 stable cell lines. Silencing of TIG1A or GRK5 expression significantly decreased TIG1A-mediated cell growth suppression.Expression of both TIG1 isoforms was observed in normal prostate and colon tissues and was downregulated in colon cancer cell lines. Both TIG1 isoforms suppressed cell growth and stimulated GRK5 expression in HCT116 and SW620 cells. Knockdown of GRK5 expression alleviated TIG1A-induced growth suppression of HCT116 cells, suggesting that GRK5 mediates cell growth suppression by TIG1A.
