A Separating Algorithm for Overlapping Red Blood Cell Images

YOU Yu-sai,YU Hui-min,

International Journal of Image, Graphics and Signal Processing , 2012,
Abstract: In this paper we proposed a novel method of viewpoint selection using the hybrid Nelder-Mead (NM) simplex search and particle swarm optimization (PSO) to improve the efficiency and the intelligent level of volume rendering. This method constructed the viewpoint quality evaluation function in the form of entropy by utilizing the luminance and structure features of the two-dimensional projective image of volume data. During the process of volume rendering, the hybrid NM-PSO algorithm intended to locate the globally optimal viewpoint or a set of the optimized viewpoints automatically and intelligently. Experimental results have shown that this method avoids redundant interactions and evidently improves the efficiency of volume rendering. The optimized viewpoints can focus on the important structural features or the region of interest in volume data and exhibit definite correlation with the perception character of human visual system. Compared with the methods based on PSO or NM simplex search, our method has the better performance of convergence rate, convergence accuracy and robustness.
Image retrieval based on gradient texton coherence vector

ZHANG You-sai,FU Zheng,ZHU Zhi-yu,

计算机应用研究 , 2012,
Abstract: This paper proposed a new image retrieval algorithm based on gradient texton coherence vector for fusion of multi-features. The algorithm computed the edge gradient first in the modified HSV color space, and then gained gradient texton map by scanning the gradient image through the special texton types. The texton pixels were combined into the coherence set, the other pixels were the non-coherence set. At last,it represented the feature vector of the image retrieval by color auto-correlogram in two sets, and realized the image retrieval based multi-features which fused color, shape, texture and spatial information. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can combine color, texture, shape and spatial characteristic effectively, and have valid precision and recall.

Toxicity and Antimicrobial Activities of Ionic Liquids with Halogen Anion  [PDF]
You Yu, Yi Nie
Journal of Environmental Protection (JEP) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/jep.2011.23033
Abstract: To investigate the eco-toxicity of ionic liquids (ILs), experiments on growth of three kinds of bacteria were carried out for six common ILs with halogen anion by a micro-calorimetric method at 310 k. The results indicate that the growth of all the bacteria was inhibited in the presence of ILs. In addition, all ILs at definite concentrations show some toxicity to Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis. Anti-microbial activities of the ILs with halogen anion are strongly related to structures of the ILs. An increase in alkyl group chain length corresponds with an increase in toxicity, and the ILs with pyridinium cation exhibit stronger restraining effect than the same series ILs with imidazolium cation.
To Conform or Not to Conform: Spontaneous Conformity Diminishes the Sensitivity to Monetary Outcomes
Rongjun Yu, Sai Sun
PLOS ONE , 2013, DOI: 10.1371/journal.pone.0064530
Abstract: When people have different opinions in a group, they often adjust their own attitudes and behaviors to match the group opinion, known as social conformity. The affiliation account of normative conformity states that people conform to norms in order to ‘fit in’, whereas the accuracy account of informative conformity posits that the motive to learn from others produces herding. Here, we test another possibility that following the crowd reduces the experienced negative emotion when the group decision turns out to be a bad one. Using event related potential (ERP) combined with a novel group gambling task, we found that participants were more likely to choose the option that was predominately chosen by other players in previous trials, although there was little explicit normative pressure at the decision stage and group choices were not informative. When individuals' choices were different from others, the feedback related negativity (FRN), an ERP component sensitive to losses and errors, was enhanced, suggesting that being independent is aversive. At the outcome stage, the losses minus wins FRN effect was significantly reduced following conformity choices than following independent choices. Analyses of the P300 revealed similar patterns both in the response and outcome period. Our study suggests that social conformity serves as an emotional buffer that protects individuals from experiencing strong negative emotion when the outcomes are bad.

Journal of Transportation Technologies (JTTs) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/jtts.2016.63013
Abstract: Work-zone crashes have always drawn public attention. A number of fatalities are recorded every year nationwide within work zone areas. Most existing countermeasures have been dedicated more to the advance warning areas, transition areas, and activity areas of work zone, than the termination areas, where drivers might play less attention to safety threats. In this study, the vehicle-to-vehicle communication based left turn warning system was applied at a work zone termination area, which is immediately followed by a T-intersection. The work-zone is located on the minor road side, while left turn vehicles will be appearing from the major street through the said T-intersection. A smart phone application was designed using Android coding system to provide several types of warning messages to drivers. Corresponding scenarios were designed in a driving simulator, and 20 subjects were recruited to participate in the simulation test followed by a questionnaire survey. The subjects received a warning message when driving to the termination area of a work zone on the coming left turn vehicles. Twenty test drivers’ driving speed, acceleration rates, and break reaction distance to the warning messages were studied in four different scenarios. Results show that the smartphone application has a great impact on driving behaviors, especially the female voice and the beep tone warning, which are recommended for possible field tests. Besides, the developed smartphone applications can be further updated for practical applications of similar needs.
No-Reference JPEG image quality assessment based on Visual sensitivity
Zhang You-Sai,Chen Zhong-Jun
International Journal of Modern Education and Computer Science , 2011,
Abstract: in this paper, a novel human visual sensitivity measurement approach is presented to assessment the visual quality of JPEG-coded images without reference image. The key features of human visual sensitivity (HVS) such as edge amplitude and length, background activity and luminance are extracted from sample images as input vectors. SVR-NN was used to search and approximate the functional relationship between HVS and mean opinion score (MOS). Then, the measuring of visual quality of JPEG-coded images was realized. Experimental results prove that it is easy to initialize the network structure and set parameters of SVR-NN. And the better generalization performance owned by SVR-NN can add the new features of the sample automatically. Compared with other image quality metrics, the experimental results of the proposed metric exhibit much higher correlation with perception character of HVS. And the role of HVS feature in image quality index is fully reflected.
