Image Denoising Combining the P-M Model and the LLT Model  [PDF]

Abstract: In this paper, we present a noise removal technique by combining the P-M model with the LLT model. The combined technique takes full use of the advantage of both filters which is able to preserve edges and simultaneously overcomes the staircase effect. We use a weighting function in our model, and compare this model with the P-M model as well as other fourth-order functional both in theory and numerical experiment.
An Empirical Research on the Funds Managers’ Skill and Accrual Quality Risk Premium: The Evidence from China  [PDF]

This paper explores the impact of accrual quality information on fund investment decisions, and examines whether fund managers can use the stock’s accrual quality information to obtain excess returns, and the difference in fund manager’s skill to influence the extent of the fund’s excess returns. This paper uses the annual observations of 2851 Chinese funds, from 2005 to 2016 to analyze the fund manager’s stock investment decision. The results show that in China capital market, there is a risk premium for accrual quality, and fund managers can obtain excess returns through selecting stocks with poor accrual quality. And fund managers with better skill, can obtain more excess returns.

Abstract: In the past, the esophagus diseases causing the patient to unable to intake oral diet such as esophageal strictures, leaks, tracheoesophageal fistulas, etc. were managed by surgical interventions and parenteral nutrition to meet the demand of the body. After the development of technique of stent placement in esopahgus, there was revolutionary change in the management of such conditions promoting patients to take diet orally and improve their nutritional status as well as quality of life. Different types of commercial stents are available in the market with their own pros and cons. Our aim of this study was to review the different stents being used currently in the clinical practice, comparing the stents on their therapeutic outcome and complications, optimal timing of removal of stents for benign conditions and the methods studied by different clinicians to lower the rate of complications and reinterventions.
Thermodynamic Study and Exergetic Analysis of the Integrated SOFC-GT-Kalina Power Cycle  [PDF]

Abstract: In this paper the SOFC-GT-Kalina (solid oxide fuel cell, gas turbine, and Kalina cycle) integrated system is proposed. The system uses Kalina cycle as the bottoming cycle to recovery the waste heat from the gas turbine to generate power. Kalina cycle uses ammonia-water mixture as the work fluid which has sliding-temperature boiling characteristics. By comparing with the SOFC-GT-ST (solid oxide fuel cell, gas turbine, and steam turbine cycle) system as the reference system, the systems are simulated by Aspen Plus through analyzing the overall system performance. Electrical and exergy efficiency of the proposed system are 74.41% and 71.93%, and electrical and exergy efficiency of the reference system are 71.45% and 69.07%, proving the superiority of Kalina cycle for waste heat recovery. In addition, the exergy losses of each component are studied, and the detail performance analysis of the proposed system is presented, consisting of thermal analysis, exergy analysis and EUD (Energy-utilization diagram) analysis, which intuitively disclosed the causes of exergy loss. Additionally, it was revealed that there exists an optimal current density at 350 mA/cm2 for power and power density.
Research on HS Optical Flow Algorithm Based on Motion Estimation Optimization  [PDF]

The amount of computation for detecting moving objects by the optical flow algorithm is large. The optical flow information in the smooth region cannot be detected by the optical flow algorithm, and it is susceptible to noise in a complicated environment. In this study, an optimized Horn-Schunck (HS) optical flow algorithm based on motion estimation is proposed. To detect Harris corner in the image, the proposed algorithm is used in combination with the motion estimation algorithm based on macroblock to determine the region of interest (ROI) [1]. The ROI is then used as the initial motion vector for HS calculation to obtain the optical flow information. Filtering is conducted to eliminate the background noise. Experimental result shows that the application of the proposed algorithm improves the computational speed, avoids the interference of background noise, and enhances the robustness of HS. Moreover, the algorithm solves the problem rooted in the inability of the HS algorithm to detect the smooth part of optical flow information [2].

In this paper, the intelligent application we designed focuses on a closed family area. ZigBee technology is mainly used to achieve the remote control. The most popular Android system is used in the design. The operation interface on the home intelligent gateway is completed through the designed system. It can allow people the full control by using smartphones. The system is operated and controlled through touch panel. Furthermore, it can be controlled remotely by using smartphones. ZigBee module is expected to be used to allow these devices to perform data transmission and collection. Some additional machinery, control circuits, and sensors will be designed for doors and windows. For example, a motor and a control circuit are installed to control doors and windows, and ZigBee is used to control the power input and drive the motor. Antitheft sensors, such as infrared sensors or light sensors, are installed to monitor the objects. Home gateway can collect ZigBee information on doors and windows, and an interactive mechanism is designed to take effective remote control.

Abstract: The method of transforming resistance gene to carbendazim intoTrichoderma sp. was studied by using genetic engineering technique. The results show that the time of fungicide selection on the transformedTrichoderma sp. may have very important effect on the resistance gene transformation. By this method, the resistance gene to carbendazim was transformed intoTrichoderma harzianum, a strain ofT. harzianum with resistance to carbendazim was achieved. The transformant could grow on the medium containing 150 μg/mL carbendazim. The resistance is stable after 10 times transfer on non-selective medium.
Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation ofCry I A(b) gene toTrichoderma harzianum

Abstract: In this study,Cry IA(b) gene was successfully transferred into the biocontrol fungusTrichoderma harzianum with an efficiency of 60–180 transformants per 106 spores by usingAgrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation. Putative transformants were analyzed to test the presence ofCry IA(b) gene by Southern blot. Most transformants contained a single T-DNA copy. RT-PCR analysis showed that theCry IA(b) gene was transcribed. Antifungal activities and insecticidal activities of the transformants were examined. There was no obvious difference in antifungal activities between the transformants and their wild strains. The modified mortalities of the transformants T1 and T2 were 69.57% and 91.30%, respectively. The tranformation system mediated byA. tumefaciens proved to be a powerful tool for the filamentous fungi transformation and functional genomic study with its high transformation frequency, simplicity of T-DNA integration, and genetic stability of transformants.
Magnetic Response Functions in Landau Levels

Abstract: We propose a new quantization rule which generates Landau levels consistent with the zero-field magnetic response functions from the semiclassical theory. It reproduces the Onsager's rule in the leading order, and re-formulates corrections from the Berry phase and magnetic moment effect in terms of one single magnetic response: the zero-field magnetization. It can yield higher order corrections by including successively magnetic susceptibility and higher order magnetic response functions. In application, it can be easily applied to obtain Landau levels in lattice models. Moreover, it provides an experimental method of measuring different magnetic response functions directly from the measurement of Landau level fan diagram or Hofstadter spectrum.

Abstract: Let $G$ be a finite group and $Irr(G)$ the set of irreducible complex characters of $G$. Let $e_p(G)$ be the largest integer such that $p^{e_p(G)}$ divides $\chi(1)$ for some $\chi \in Irr(G)$. We show that $|G:\mathbf{F}(G)|_p \leq p^{k e_p(G)}$ for a constant $k$. This settles a conjecture of A. Moret\'o. We also study the related problems of the $p$-parts of conjugacy class sizes of finite groups.
