Abstract: For the aim of synthesis of the carbon-iodine compound, the preparation of iodin e-included carbon using RF plasma CVD was studied. Iodine-included carbon was sy nthesized on Si substrate using ICP type RF plasma CVD apparatus. C2H5OH and I2 dissolved C2H5OH was used as reactant gases. As a result, surface morphologies o f Iodine included carbon films showed flat surfaces for each samples. On the str ucture of films estimated by Raman spectroscopy, amorphous carbon was recognized . And I2 peaks were observed in XPS spectra. As a result of friction test, frict ion coefficient of the sample growth with C2H5OH showed about 0.45. On the other hand, that of the sample with I2-C2H5OH showed about 0.3 and decrease of fricti on coefficient was recognized. Iodine inclusion for carbon materials can be achi eved by RF plasma CVD using an I2-C2H5OH reactant. The coefficient of iodine-inc luded carbon showed lower than of without iodine
Transmedullary Decompression for Humeral Diaphysis Solitary Bone Cysts  [PDF]

Solitary bone cysts are benign, fluid-filled cavities that most often occur in childhood. Several minimally invasive decompression methods have been proposed; however, performing a surgical procedure through the thinned overlying cortex raises the risk of pathological fracture and neurovascular damage, especially in lesions located in the bone diaphysis. We describe a new technique that circumvents these problems: tunneling through the normal cortex and medullary space with a flexible reamer, placing a retrograde medullary nail for cyst decompression.

A Method to Evaluate an Urban Area by Using the Model That Calculates a Number of Facilities from an Area and a Population  [PDF]

Abstract: This paper presents 1) a new mathematical model improved from a conventional model that calculates a number of facility from an area and a population in a town and, 2) by using this model, a method to evaluate the enrichment (in other words, convenience or enough) of facilities in the town where many high-rise apartments have been built (the area is hereinafter referred to as the high-rise apartment town). The conventional model uses only a nighttime population, but this paper considers a daytime population in addition to the nighttime population. Also, there has not been the method to evaluate the enrichment of facilities in a town, but we can evaluate it using this model. We apply this method to 23 special wards in Tokyo and the highrise apartment towns, the results prove the effectiveness of the proposed method.
Development of dual frequency gyrotron and high power test of EC components

Abstract: In JAEA, development of high-power long-pulse gyrotrons is underway. The output power of the gyrotron was applied for high-power long-pulse tests of the transmission line (TL) and the equatorial launcher (EL) mock up for ITER. The feature of design in the dual frequency gyrotron is the simultaneously satisfying the matching of both frequencies at a window and the same radiation angle at an internal mode convertor for both frequencies. The dual frequency gyrotron was developed and high power operations at 170 GHz and 137 GHz were carried out. The 170 GHz high power experiment of 40 m length ITER relevant TL was carried out and transmission efficiency and mode purity change caused by long pulse operation were measured. The mock-up model of EL was also tested using 170 GHz gyrotron. The power transmission through the quasi-optical beam line in EL was demonstrated using the full scale mock up model. Furthermore, the high power test results of the transmission components will be summarized.
Acute exacerbation of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis as the initial presentation of the disease

Abstract: The clinical course of patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is generally marked by a decline in pulmonary function over time, although recently there is increasing recognition that fatal deterioration from acute exacerbation can occur at any stage. The patient described in the present case study was a 65-yr-old male who presented with exertional dyspnoea and fever of 2 weeks' duration. He had no history of chronic lung disease or physiological or radiological hallmarks of pre-existing disease. He underwent surgical lung biopsy and the histological examination showed a background pattern of usual interstitial pneumonia (UIP) with a pattern of focal acute diffuse alveolar damage (DAD) in the area where normal lung architecture was preserved. It is notable that the pathological diagnosis of this rapidly progressive interstitial pneumonia was DAD on UIP, which is typically seen in acute exacerbations of IPF. Unusual findings on high-resolution computed tomography scan were also noted. We presume that in this case acute exacerbation developed in the very early course of IPF. Given the possibility that similar cases may have arisen among patients diagnosed with acute interstitial pneumonia or acute respiratory distress syndrome, the histopathology of rapidly progressive interstitial pneumonia may need to be revisited.
Symmetries between Untwisted and Twisted Strings on Asymmetric Orbifolds

Abstract: We study symmetries between untwisted and twisted strings on asymmetric orbifolds. We present a list of asymmetric orbifold models to possess intertwining currents which convert untwisted string states to twisted ones, and vice versa. We also present a list of heterotic strings on asymmetric orbifolds with supersymmetry between untwisted and twisted string states. Some of properties inherent in asymmetric orbifolds, which are not shared by symmetric orbifolds, are pointed out.

Abstract: We give various examples of asymmetric orbifold models to possess intertwining currents which convert untwisted string states to twisted ones, and vice versa, and see that such asymmetric orbifold models are severely restricted. The existence of the intertwining currents leads to the enhancement of symmetries in asymmetric orbifold models.
Discovery of Mira variable stars in the metal-poor Sextans dwarf spheroidal galaxy

Abstract: We report the discovery of two Mira variable stars (Miras) toward the Sextans dwarf spheroidal (dSph) galaxy. We performed optical long-term monitoring observations for two red stars in the Sextans dSph. The light curves of both stars in the $I_{\rm c}$ band show large-amplitude (3.7 and 0.9 mag) and long-period ($326\pm 15$ and $122\pm 5$ days) variations, suggesting that they are Miras. We combine our own infrared data with previously published data to estimate the mean infrared magnitudes. The distances obtained from the period-luminosity relation of the Miras ($75.3^{+12.8}_{-10.9}$ and $79.8^{+11.5}_{-9.9}$ kpc, respectively), together with the radial velocities available, support memberships of the Sextans dSph ($90.0\pm 10.0$ kpc). These are the first Miras found in a stellar system with a metallicity as low as ${\rm [Fe/H]\sim -1.9}$, than any other known system with Miras.
