Application of Google Earth in Modern River Sedimentology Research  [PDF]

Abstract: Google Earth, a software based on satellite’s images and database of navigation, gains features of high resolution, integrated images, quick update, convenience, simpleness and free cost. Practice of this software shows that it plays an important role in mapping, construction and river research. Based on the fundamental features of Google Earth, this passage makes an introduction to its application in studying modern river sedimentology through the case study of the Yellow River. The results show that Google Earth satellite’s high-resolution images and image overlay functions make it easy for users to quickly navigate river, determine the type of river, track the river flows and measure the terrain slope; the software’s “Ruler” and “Add Path” functions make it easy for users to measure channel width, curvature, amplitude, wavelength, size, morphology of point-bar and other river parameters; the software’s “Historical Image” function has important significance in the study of modern river migration, sedimentary evolution and river geomorphological shape during different seasons.

Abstract: Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) represent a new class of materials possessing high selectivity and affinity for the target molecule. They have been utilized as sensors, catalysts, sorbents for solid-phase extraction, stationary phase for liquid chromatography, mimics of enzymes, receptors, and antibodies. In this research, molecular imprinted polymers (MIPs) for luteolin were prepared using acrylamide, 4-vinylpyridine and 1-allyl-piperazine as functional monomers and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as cross-linker by non-covalent imprinting method. UV-visible spectra were used to evaluate the interaction strength between the template and the monomers. The composites of the polymers were calculated from elementary analysis. The porous properties of the imprinted polymers have been determined from nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherms. The imprinting efficiency of the prepared MIPs was evaluated by selective adsorption for luteolin and its structural analogues. Although the interaction strength of monomers to the template was in the order 1-ALPP > 4-VP > AA, the binding affinity of the imprinted polymers towards luteolin was in the order MIP 2 > MIP 3 > MIP 1. Our results demonstrated that the imprinting efficiency was depending not only on the interaction strength between the template and the monomer, but also on the fidelity in transferring the complex into the polymer.
Acute Impact of Moderate-Intensity and Vigorous-Intensity Exercise Bouts on Daily Physical Activity Energy Expenditure in Postmenopausal Women

Abstract: This study determined whether performing a single moderate- or vigorous-intensity exercise bout impacts daily physical activity energy expenditure (PAEE, by accelerometer). Overweight/obese postmenopausal women underwent a 5-month caloric restriction and moderate- (=18) or vigorous-intensity (=18) center-based aerobic exercise intervention. During the last month of intervention, in women performing moderate-intensity exercise, PAEE on days with exercise (577.7±219.7 kcal·d−1) was higher (=.011) than on days without exercise (450.7±140.5 kcal·d−1); however, the difference (127.0±188.1 kcal·d−1) was much lower than the energy expended during exercise. In women performing vigorous-intensity exercise, PAEE on days with exercise (450.6±153.6 kcal·d−1) was lower (=.047) than on days without exercise (519.2±127.4 kcal·d−1). Thus, women expended more energy on physical activities outside of prescribed exercise on days they did NOT perform center-based exercise, especially if the prescribed exercise was of a higher intensity.

Abstract: At present, CuInSe2 (referred to as CIS) semiconductor has become one of the hot points in solar cell field at home and abroad for its excellent performances, such as direct bandgap, high light absorption coefficient, high photoelectric conversion efficiency and long-term stability. In this paper, the CIS bulk materials are prepared by the horizontal Bridgman method with double-heat sources, the crystal structure, microstructure morphology and composition of the samples are analyzed in X-ray diffraction instrument (XRD) and scanning electronic microscope (SEM) with Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectrum (EDX), and surface electrical state and electrical properties of the samples are characterized in X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and four point resistivity test system. The results show that the CIS crystal was grown, and that the conductive performance of the samples is good which display the characteristics of p-type semiconductor. Furthermore, a thin film CIS sample was obtained by argon ion-beam scanning bombardment, and it has high solar energy absorptivity and the bandgap of 0.99 eV analyzed in Ultraviolet-visible Spectrum that is suitable for solar cell. Structure and 57Fe conversion electron M ssbauer spectroscopy study of Mn-Zn ferrite nanocrystal thin films by electroless plating in aqueous solution

Abstract: Mn1 x Zn x Fe2O4 thin films with various Zn contents and of different thickness were synthesized on glass substrates directly by electroless plating in aqueous solution at 90°C without heat treatment. The Mn-Zn ferrite films have a single spinel phase structure and well-crystallized columnar grains growing perpendicularly to the substrates. The results of conversion electron 57Fe M ssbauer spectroscopy (CEMS) indicate that the cation distribution of Mn1 x Zn x Fe2O4 ferrite nanocrystal thin films fabricated by electroless plating is different from the bulk materials’ and a great quantity of Fe3+ ions are still present on A sites for x>0.5. When the Zn content of the films increases, Fe3+ ions in the films transfer from A sites to B sites and the hyperfine magnetic field reduces, suggesting that Zn2+ has strong chemical affinity towards the A sites. On the other side, with the increase of the thickness of the films, Fe3+ ions, at B sites in the spinel structure, increase and the array of magnetic moments no longer lies in the thin film plane completely. At x = 0.5, H c and M s of Mn1 x Zn x Fe2O4 thin films show a minimum of 3.7 kA/m and a maximum of 419.6 kA/m, respectively.

Abstract: We apply the methods of principle component analysis (PCA) and Wilcoxon’s signed rank test (WSRT) to study influence of conversion of convertible bonds on corporate performance of different industries in China. In this paper, 33 convertible bonds that were issued by non-financial sectors from 2002 to 2009 in China with the convertible rate more than 50% within a year were selected as a research sample. In order to provide a reference for the parties concerned, the influence of conversion of convertible bonds on corporate performance in different industries was studied from the industrial properties point of review.
