Significance of serum neopterin level in diagnosis of active pulmonary tuberculosis

Abstract: Objective To investigate the sensitivity and specificity of serum neopterin(Np) level in diagnosis of active pulmonary tuberculosis.Methods Patients with pulmonary tuberculosis,admitted to Xinjiang Chest Hospital from Apr.2009 to May 2010,were consecutively enrolled in present study.Serum neopterin level was determined with enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) in the next morning of admission.VCG purified protein derivative test(PPD) was concurrently performed.Results Fifty-eight cases with active(group A) and 18 with stable(group S) pulmonary tuberculosis were recruited,and 32 healthy volunteers served as control(group C).The mean Np level was significantly higher in group A(54.14±19.85 nmol/L) than in group S(29.51±8.23 nmol/L) and group C(20.67±9.68 nmol/L,P < 0.01).No statistical difference was found between group S and group C(P > 0.05).Among patients with active pulmonary tuberculosis,the mean Np level increased significantly in cases with the fibro-cavitative pulmonary tuberculosis(77.43±22.13),compared with those cases with invasive(46.07±13.04) and hematogenous disseminated pulmonary tuberculosis(48.48±8.34 nmol/L,P < 0.01),while no statistical difference existed between the latter two.The receiver operating characteristic(ROC) curve showed that the area under curve(AUC) was 0.951 in the cutoff value of 36.73 nmol/L,and the sensitivity and specificity were 86% and 92% for predicting active pulmonary tuberculosis,and it was significantly higher than PPD test(P < 0.01),in which the sensitivity was 52% and specificity was 78%.Conclusions Np level may serve as one of the important adjunctive parameters for early diagnosis of active pulmonary tuberculosis due to its high sensitivity and specificity.
Comparisons of CP gene and HC-Pro gene of two Turnip mosaic virus isolates

Abstract: The pathogenicity of Turnip mosaic virus(TuMV) isolates HZWT collected from Hangzhou and YNQC from Kunming were similar in tested seven hosts. CP and HC-Pro genes of two isolates were then amplified by IC-RT-PCR.The PCR products were cloned and determined.CP genes of the two isolates were all composed of 864 nucleotides encoding a polypeptide of 288 amino acids;HC-Pro genes of the two isolates were composed of 1374 nucleotides encoding a polypeptide of 458 amino acids.Nucleotide sequence identity of CP and HC-Pro genes between HZWT and YNQC were 99.3% and 94.5%,respectively,while amino acid identities of those between HZWT and YNQC were 100% and 98.7%,respectively.CP genes of HZWT and YNQC have 89.2%-99.3%(nucleotides) and 88.5%-99.7%(amino acids) sequence identities with other reported TuMV isolates,while HC-Pro genes of two isolates have 80.6%-97.0%(nucleotides) and 95.0%99.6%(amino acids) sequence identities with other reported TuMV isolates.
The Genetic Study on the Patrilineal and Matrilineal Origin of the Bo People in Yunnan

Abstract: The Y chromosome and mtDNA from 32 male samples of Bo people were typed. The results showed that the Bo people originated from the south of China possessing the dominant patrilineal and matrilineal haplotypes that are prevalent in the southern East Asian populations. The multidimensional scaling analysis on the Bo people's hapoltypes, combined with published Y chromosome and mtDNA data from East Asian populations, demonstrated that the Bo people are genetically closer to the southern populations than to the northern. This indicates that the Bo people are descendants of a southern China origin population, which is consistent with archeological evidence. The genetic dissection of the Bo people sheds new light on the origin and dispersion of the prehistoric ``cliff coffin' culture.
Dynamic Characteristics of Phosphorus in Purple Paddy Soil and Its Environmental Impact

Abstract: The dynamic characteristics of phosphorus (P) in the surface water and runoff of paddy field with different P fertilizing treatments were investigated using the field experiment under the independent irrigation system as well as its environmental impact .The results showed that the concentrations of total phosphorus (TP) in the surface water increased as the fertilizing amounts enhancing and reached the peak values after 24 h for all the treatments in range of 0.928~3.824 mg/L. And the fluctuation of TP concentration in surface water was drastic during the first 30 days with the average contents of 0.259~1.433 mg/L which exceeded the critic values of eutrophication. Therefore, the field managements such as inter-tillage and drainage should be avoided during the time. After 40 days, the TP concentrations declined slowly and then came to stabilization with low values after 60 days. The contents of different P forms in the runoff water increased with the improved amounts of precipitation and fertilizing and above 50% was dissolved phosphorus (DP). The DP was the dominant one in the P loss of the purple paddy soil and the loss load changed between 0.358 and 2.579 kg/hm2. Additionally, the P loss more easily occurred for the treatment of utilizing the cattle manure than that of straw, approximately 40% of loss load higher. Both the loss load and apparent P loss ratio evidently declined with the treatment of fertilizer combined with straw, suggesting that it was the better measure for reducing the P loss in the paddy field.
Characteristics and Expression Patterns of the Aldehyde Dehydrogenase (ALDH) Gene Superfamily of Foxtail Millet (Setaria italica L.)

Abstract: Recent genomic sequencing of the foxtail millet, an abiotic, stress-tolerant crop, has provided a great opportunity for novel gene discovery and functional analysis of this popularly-grown grass. However, few stress-mediated gene families have been studied. Aldehyde dehydrogenases (ALDHs) comprise a gene superfamily encoding NAD (P) +-dependent enzymes that play the role of “aldehyde scavengers”, which indirectly detoxify cellular ROS and reduce the effect of lipid peroxidation meditated cellular toxicity under various environmental stresses. In the current paper, we identified a total of 20 ALDH genes in the foxtail millet genome using a homology search and a phylogenetic analysis and grouped them into ten distinct families based on their amino acid sequence identity. Furthermore, evolutionary analysis of foxtail millet reveals that both tandem and segmental duplication contributed significantly to the expansion of its ALDH genes. The exon-intron structures of members of the same family in foxtail millet or the orthologous genes in rice display highly diverse distributions of their exonic and intronic regions. Also, synteny analysis shows that the majority of foxtail millet and rice ALDH gene homologs exist in the syntenic blocks between the two, implying that these ALDH genes arose before the divergence of cereals. Semi-quantitative and real-time quantitative PCR data reveals that a few SiALDH genes are expressed in an organ-specific manner and that the expression of a number of foxtail millet ALDH genes, such as, SiALDH7B1, SiALDH12A1 and SiALDH18B2 are up-regulated by osmotic stress, cold, H2O2, and phytohormone abscisic acid (ABA). Furthermore, the transformation of SiALDH2B2, SiALDH10A2, SiALDH5F1, SiALDH22A1, and SiALDH3E2 into Escherichia coli (E.coli) was able to improve their salt tolerance. Taken together, our results show that genome-wide identification characteristics and expression analyses provide unique opportunities for assessing the functional roles of foxtail millet ALDH genes in stress responses.

Abstract: The quasi-wavelet method is used for obtaining the numerical solution of the MKdV equation- The quasi-wavelet discrete scheme is adopted to make the spatial derivatives discrete, while the fourth-order Runge-Kutta method is adopted to make the temporal derivative discrete- One of the MKdV equation ut+6u2ux+uxxx=0, which has an analytical solution, is solved numerically- The numerical results are well consistent with the analytical solutions, even at t=10000s-

Abstract: Promoting the employment of the work force and the development of human resources is an important issue that needs to be resolved in China.It is also crucial to building a well-off society.Premier Wen Jiabao emphasizes the importance of vocational education in a speech delivered at the National Conference on Vocational Education.China's economic development and employment is facing two great changes: both employment of the work force and optimization of the industrial structure are in need of skilled workers.Therefore,China will have to devote great effort to developing vocational education.Developing lifelong vocational education plays an important role in promoting the development of human resources,the employment of labor force,the sustainable development and enhancing the country's competitive power.The idea of lifelong vocational education comes from the idea of lifelong education.It is a new perception of vocational education.It breaks the restrictions of time and space in the narrow sense of vocational education.According to the idea of lifelong vocational education,vocational education should run throughout one's life to provide help for one's whole career development and should be an integration of all kinds of vocational education in different places.Lifelong education has the features of continuation,integration,flexibility,openness and change.Developing lifelong vocational education is a complex work that needs social participation.The basic strategies for developing lifelong vocational education include law assurance,policy control,flexible fund raising,social participation and encouragement for lifelong learning.In law assurance,regulations for lifelong vocational education may be made according to the Vocational Education Act of the P.R.China and local acts may be enacted.In policy-making,there are many aspects as establishing and coordinating the institutions of lifelong vocational education,strengthening the functions of educational departments,building opening schools and providing learning holidays.In flexible fund raising,funding system that combines special grants from governments,funds from industries, funds from society and individual learning accounts may be established.In social participation,platform for participation can be set up and activities for creating learning organizations can be launched.The main forms of lifelong learning encouragement include providing opportunities for development,spiritual awards,economic benefits and qualification accreditation.
Smoothness and high energy asymptotics of the spectral shift function in many-body scattering

Abstract: Let H=\Delta+\sum_{#a=2} V_a be a 3-body Hamiltonian, H_a the subsystem Hamiltonians, \Delta the positive Laplacian of the Euclidean metric on X_0=R^n, V_a real-valued. Buslaev and Merkurev have shown that, if the pair potentials decay sufficiently fast, for \phi smooth and compactly supported, the operator \phi(H)-\phi(H_0)-\sum_{#a=2}(\phi(H_a)-\phi(H_0)) is trace class. Hence, one can define a modified spectral shift function \sigma, as a distribution on R, by taking its trace. In this paper we show that if V_a are Schwartz, then \sigma is in fact smooth away from the thresholds, and obtain its high energy asymptotics. In addition, we generalize this result to N-body scattering, N arbitrary.

Abstract: 摘要 发展纯电动汽车与混合动力汽车是解决能源危机与环境问题的有效途径,这对新能源材料及储能设备提出了更高的要求. 其中以金属锂作为负极、以空气中的氧气作为正极活性物质组成的锂-空气二次电池具有很高的理论比能量,因在纯电动汽车、混合动力汽车方面有很好的应用前景而受到人们的广泛关注. 根据工作环境及介质条件,目前研究最多的锂-空气电池主要包括有机电解液、有机-水组合电解液及全固态电解质三种类型. 由于锂-空气电池的发展历史较短,目前仍处于起步阶段,在电池的正极、负极、电解液(质)及综合性能等方面均存在诸多的困难与挑战. 本文从作者课题组对有机电解液及组合电解液型锂-空气电池方面的研究出发,旨在向读者简单介绍锂-空气电池的发展历史,研究现状及未来努力的方向
Controller design for electric power steering system using T-S fuzzy model approach

Abstract: Pressure ripples in electric power steering (EPS) systems can be caused by the phase lag between the driver's steering torque and steer angle, the nonlinear frictions, and the disturbances from road and sensor noise especially during high-frequency maneuvers. This paper investigates the use of the robust fuzzy control method for actively reducing pressure ripples for EPS systems. Remarkable progress on steering maneuverability is achieved. The EPS dynamics is described with an eight-order nonlinear state-space model and approximated by a Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model with time-varying delays and external disturbances. A stabilization approach is then presented for nonlinear time-delay systems through fuzzy state feedback controller in parallel distributed compensation (PDC) structure. The closed-loop stability conditions of EPS system with the fuzzy controller are parameterized in terms of the linear matrix inequality (LMI) problem. Simulations and experiments using the proposed robust fuzzy controller and traditional PID controller have been carried out for EPS systems. Both the simulation and experiment results show that the proposed fuzzy controller can reduce the torque ripples and allow us to have a good steering feeling and stable driving.
