Use of Reclaimed Water in China: management issues and strategies

Abstract: As one of the fastest economic growing country in the world, China faces many water challenges. While there is no magic bullet to solving those challenges, a diversified selection of alternative water resources to help stretch traditional freshwater supplies is one of the optimal solutions. For this reason, the view of managing wastewater is moving from safe disposal of the treated product to incorporating it into the water supply. Since reclaimed water is increasingly consider being a valuable resource, the management of reclaimed water is also going to play a significant role in China’s future water management. This paper aims to give an overview of reclaimed water used activities in China and outline some issues arise from the management defect. And the innovative management strategies relevant to the management that put forward in this paper may become a part of the journey towards sustainable management of water resources in China. Review of Waste Tire Reuse& Recycling in China: current situation, problems and countermeasures

Abstract: This article first expounds the current situation on waste tire generation and recycling in China. Then it analyses the existing problems and causes in the industry of waste tire recycling. Finally, it proposes countermeasures and suggestion on promoting a healthy waste tire industry. These strategies include accelerating the speed of drawing up regulations on waste tire reuse and recycling management, completing encourage policies and mechanism of waste tire resource recycling industry, developing adequately the influence of China Rubber Industry Association (CRIA) and China Tire Retreading And Utilization Association (CTRA), and etc.. China has an abundant resource of waste tires and recycling potential. And it will be of great significance to mitigating the scarcity of rubber resource, improving ecological environment, developing circular economy and building resource-efficient society in China if we can reuse and recycle waste tires properly and form a healthy waste tire industry.

Stable Haptic Rendering for Physics Engines Using Inter-Process Communication and Remote Virtual Coupling

Abstract: Availability of physics engines has significantly reduced the effort required to develop interactive applications concerning the simulation of physical world. However, it becomes a problem when kinesthetic feedback is needed in the applications since the incorporation of haptic rendering is nontrivial, where fast haptic data update is demanded for stable rendering. In the regard, a framework for integrating haptic rendering into physics simulation engines is proposed. It mediates the update-rate disparity between haptic rendering and physics simulation engine by means of inter-process communication and remote virtual coupling, which fully decouples haptic rendering from complex physical simulation. Experimental results demonstrate that this framework can guarantee fast haptic rendering at 1k Hz even the physical simulation system operates at very low update rate. The remote virtual coupling algorithm shows better performance than the interpolation based methods in terms of stability and robustness.

Abstract: 采用三元Ag-Cu-Ti活性焊料连接常压烧结碳化硅陶瓷,研究了反应温度、保温时间等钎焊工艺对碳化硅陶瓷连接强度的影响,分析了连接界面的微观结构和反应产物.实验结果表明,在实验范围内,钎焊温度和保温时间对碳化硅陶瓷的连接强度均有峰值,四点弯曲强度最高达到342MPa,随着钎焊温度的升高,界面反应层厚度增加,连接强度提高,但过高的钎焊温度引起焊料的挥发而使连接强度下降.焊料中的活性元素Ti与碳化硅发生反应在连接界面形成均匀致密的反应层,反应层厚度约1μm,XRD和EDX能谱分析结果表明反应产物是TiC和Ti5Si3.
Improved Topology Control Algorithm for Wireless Sensor Networks

Abstract: Topology control algorithms for wireless sensor networks are significant for prolonging the network lifetime,reducing radio interference, increasing the efficiency of routing protocols and MAC protocols, among other things. Based on the analysis of the XTC (eXemplary Topology Control) algorithm, this paper proposed a modified local distributed topology algorithm M-XTC (Modified-XTC). The modified algorithm maintains the advantages such as simple, practical, available without node position information, applicable for nodes without special instruments, heterogeneous networks, three-dimensional space networks as the XTC; algorithm does. Moreover, it is also more conductive to prolong the network lifetime, and has much more real-time and robustness.
Joining Strength and Microstructure of Sintered SiC/SiC Joints Prepared by Active Brazing Process

Abstract: Sintered SiC ceramics were brazed with itself by ternary Ag-Cu-Ti filler metal foil. Effects of brazing parameters such as temperature, holding time on joining strength, together with interface microstructure and reaction products were investigated. Experimental results indicate that joining strength has peak value with the increasing of brazing temperature and holding time, and the max foura2point bending strength of SiC/SiC joints reaches 342MPa. The joining strength increases first with the increasing of brazing temperature and holding time due to thickening of the reaction layer, then decreases due to evaporation of the filler metal. A uniform compact reaction layer of about 1| thickness is found at the interface between SiC and filler metal, which is formed by the reaction of active element Ti of filler metal and SiC substrate. TiC and Ti5Si3 are confirmed as the reactive products by XRD and EDX.

Mixed polarization in determining the film thickness of a silicon sphere by spectroscopic ellipsometry

Abstract: The effect of a spherical shape on the measurement result of spectroscopic ellipsometry (SE) is analyzed, and a method to eliminate this effect is proposed. Based on the simulation result of the SE measurement on a silicon sphere by ray tracking, we find that the sphere makes the parallel incident beam of the SE be divergent after reflection, and the measurement error of the SE caused by this phenomenon is explained by the mixed polarization theory. By settling an aperture in front of the detector of the SE, we can almost eliminate the error. For the silicon sphere with a diameter of 94 mm used in the Avogadro project, the thickness error of the oxide layer caused by the spherical shape can be reduced from 0.73 nm to 0.04 nm by using the proposed method. The principle of the method and the results of the experimental verification are presented.
Uncertainty reevaluation in determining the volume of a silicon sphere by spherical harmonics in an Avogadro project

Abstract: To determine the Avogadro constant with a target relative uncertainty of 2 × 10-8, the uncertainty component of the silicon sphere's volume introduced by the spherical harmonics method, which is usually used in determining the sphere's volume, is reevaluated. By means of representing the shape of the silicon sphere by an ellipsoid with Gaussian white noise in its diameters, the uncertainty of the current mapping methods based on the spherical harmonics theory can be estimated theoretically. It is evidenced that the uncertainty component attributed to the current mapping method is underestimated. To eliminate this effect as much as possible, the number of mapping points should be increased to more than before. Moreover, a new mapping method is proposed to accomplish the equal-area mapping with large number points on the silicon sphere.
