Fecundity and Husband-Wife Age Gap at First Marriage—Cross-Country Analysis  [PDF]

One explanation given for the gender wage gap is the division of labor in the home. On the marriage outset, averagely speaking, husbands who are older invest more human capital in market activities than wives. This paper concentrates on the age gap at first marriage. It hypothesizes that the demand for children is one important reason for the husband-wife age gap. To show this, the paper extends a two-sided matching model of marriage (originally introduced by Eugenio Giolito [1]) based on the biological fact that men have a longer fecundity horizon than women and examines cross-country data from World Marriage Patterns 2000 to show a higher marital age gap the greater the role children play in economic activities, the greater the importance of agriculture in an economy, the greater a country’s rural compared to total population, and the greater the population’s proportion of pro-natal religions.

Abstract: Rough set theory is a new mathematical tool to deal with vagueness and uncertainty. The classical rough set theory based on equivalence relation has made a great progress, while the equivalence relation is too harsh to meet and is extended to dominance relation in real world. It is important to investigate rough computational methods for rough set theory, which is one of the bottleneck problems in the development of rough set theory. In this article, rough computational approach to upper ap-proximation reduction (UAR) is discussed based on dominance matrix in inconsistent ordered information systems (IOIS). The algorithm of upper approximation reduction is obtained, from which we can provide approach to upper approximation reduction operated simply in inconsistent systems based on dominance relations. Finally, an example illustrates the validity of this method, and shows the method is excellent to a complicated information system.

Abstract: It is well known that most of information systems are based on tolerance relation instead of the classical equivalence relation because of various factors in real-world. To acquire brief decision rules from the information systems, lower approximation reduction is needed. In this paper, the lower approximation reduction is proposed in inconsistent information systems based on tolerance relation. Moreover, the properties are discussed. Furthermore, judgment theorem and discernibility matrix are obtained, from which an approach to lower reductions can be provided in the complicated information systems.

Abstract: MIC is one of the main problems of circulating cooling water system. The direct economic loss by MIC is about 300 to 500 billion dollars. It is good to understand MIC in order to control MIC. Source and species of microorganisms was introduced firstly. There are three kinds of microorganisms in the system, including bacteria, fungi and algae. Species of these microorganisms are shown in the paper. Then, mechanisms of MIC are analysed. Although there is no universal mechanism of MIC, MIC is still mainly an electrochemical corrosion in nature. Meanwhile, the mechanisms on SRB and iron bacteria are introduced in details. At last, several methods of microorganisms control are put forward in the paper.

Abstract: Autonomic software component (ASC) QoS matchmaking problem for autonomic element has been taken as one of the most important issue in field of autonomic computing based on agent. Aimed at overcoming drawbacks such as subjec-tiveness and unfairness, and improving the self-configuration capability for autonomic element, we introduce evalua-tion mechanism of confidence of individual QoS attributes during ASC QoS matchmaking, i.e., fidelity factor for each attribute, and propose an ASC QoS matchmaking algorithm based on fidelity factor. Simulation experiments demon-strate that our proposed algorithm performs best performance in terms of QoS than other existing algorithms, and has better compromise between attribute quality and users’ evaluation when selecting ASC.

Abstract: Constructing circulation mode of high feasibility and good implementation effect is the key method to solve difficulties in the development of “Agricultural Super-Docking” at present in China. There are many problems that exist in the process of the development of “Agricultural Super-Docking” by our analyzing from both the benefit of subjects and the whole supply chain perspectives. A large amount of relevant literature research shows that adopting the “cooperation between the government and the third party logistics enterprises to build distribution center” innovation model can solve these problems. This model can effectively remove obstacles between farmers and supermarkets. It is conducive to the development of small and medium-scale the farmer cooperatives, supermarkets and the third party logistics enterprises that don’t have a strong financial strength and a high degree of brand influence. In addition, it can also produce considerable social benefits. In order to ensure the implementation efficiency of the model to maximize, some management issues in the implementation process about the determination of core subject in supply chain, the method of evaluating the third party logistics enterprises grade, the planning of the number of customers for the distribution center, the mechanism of income distribution among multiple subjects and the implementation of relevant policies after the model into practice should be taken into account.
