Abstract: This study is conducted to give a clear picture of the competitive advantage of the Starbucks Surfers’ Paradise coffee shop. With this purpose as the direction, a thorough marketing research is conducted. According to results of the research, a conclusion of the competitive advantages of the shop is achieved based on the analysis of its marketing mix and positioning. Generally speaking, the Starbucks Surfers’ Paradise coffee shop’ convenient location, guaranteed high quality of both coffee and service, and the Starbucks brand itself give it assurance of success. Abstract: The results suggest that the capital ratio, loan ratio, non-performing loans, provisions for loan losses, fixed assets, return of equity, ratio of interest income to interest expenses, and ratio of non-interest income to non-interest expenses all had different correlations to the financial distress experienced by banks that were at a business life cycle stage. The logistic model employed in this study for predicting bank failure explains most of the banking trends in NIC banks at the declining stage. The accuracy of G8 banks at the growth stage performed well, whereas NIC banks at the declining stage performed poorly.

Abstract: This paper studies factors that determine salary among professional baseball players in the Asian (Japan,KoreaandTaiwan) and US. Empirical results show that US baseball players are the highest paid and those in Taiwan receive the lowest salary, with a large difference of 75 times. Experience, age, education and other variables, as well as population of teams’ home cities are influential. Whether or not a player transfers to other teams, their health conditions (measured as BMI) and other variables significantly affect salary, and there is no significant variance arising from different management environments in different countries. Although team age and player salary are correlated significantly in the three countries, the correlation is positive in the US and negative in Asian (Japan, Korea and Taiwan). However, their health conditions (measured as BMI), training, education and population of teams’ home cities have insignificantly correlation with the total salary from multi-year contracts.

The Impacts of Read Length and Transcriptome Complexity for De Novo Assembly: A Simulation Study

Abstract: Transcriptome assembly using RNA-seq data - particularly in non-model organisms has been dramatically improved, but only recently have the pre-assembly procedures, such as sequencing depth and error correction, been studied. Increasing read length is viewed as a crucial condition to further improve transcriptome assembly, but it is unknown whether the read length really matters. In addition, though many assembly tools are available now, it is unclear whether the existing assemblers perform well enough for all data with different transcriptome complexities. In this paper, we studied these two open problems using two high-performing assemblers, Velvet/Oases and Trinity, on several simulated datasets of human, mouse and S.cerevisiae. The results suggest that (1) the read length of paired reads does not matter once it exceeds a certain threshold, and interestingly, the threshold is distinct in different organisms; (2) the quality of de novo assembly decreases sharply with the increase of transcriptome complexity, all existing de novo assemblers tend to corrupt whenever the genes contain a large number of alternative splicing events.

Abstract: The unification of Remote Sensing(RS) and Geographic Information System (GIS) is the tendency of the development of science and technology.Remote Sensing Image Map(RSIM) is a new type of map with the RS image as foundation,according to certain mathematical regulations and map scale, comprehensively contracting the thematte map information and geographical base information on the plan of earth surface image. to reflect the geographical distribution and relationship of resource, environment, society and economy phenomena. The compilation of RSIM needs the GIS as the tool unified with RS processing tool.This paper introduces the research and experiment on the compilation of remote sensing image map(RSIM), based on the GIS and RSIM map-making software CITYSTAR; depicts the key technologies and working procedure: at last, takes Xiamen and Dazhu as two case studies to tell readers the detail methodology and process of compiling the RSIM. This research is mainly to reach the target of the whole procedure of making the RSIM on the computer system based on the personal computer and Chinese environment.Here the key issues are the transformation of vector data of some geographic information an dthe image raster data. as well as the mergence of the two kind of data. We also solved the data exchange problem with the softwares like ARC/INFO, INTERGRAPH. MAPINFO, MAPCAD and so on. In this paper the method of making the large scale(1: 25, 000) remote sensing image map is also discussed.
A Study on the Wear Resistance of Nano-Material/E51

Abstract: Epoxy resin modified by nanometric γ-alumina or multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MCNTs) was prepared with solution mixing method, and the wear resistance of the composite was studied. The results show that when an optimum amount of nanometric alumina or MCNTs is filled in epikote51 (E51), the wear resistance of the composite will increase. When 8 wt pct nanometric γ-alumina is filled in E51, the wear resistance of the composite increases to 230%. When 10% MCNTs is filled in E51, the wear resistance of the composite increases to 226%. When nanometric alumina is filled in, the wear resistance of modified epikote51 will increase as the cure temperature is heightened.
