As a commonly used volatile anesthetic, sevoflurane has been proven to possess antiinflammatory and antioxidative properties. This study aims to investigate the protective effects of sevoflurane on inflammation and ventilator-induced lung injury during mechanical ventilation in healthy mice. Methods: The adult healthy mice were divided into four groups, each consisting of ten subjects: mice in group Con-LVT and group Sev-LVT were ventilated with tidal volumes of 8 mL/kg for 4 hours, while those in group Con-HVT and group Sev-HVT were ventilated with tidal volumes of 16 mL/kg instead. Control mice (group Con-LVT and Con-HVT) were subjected to fresh air, while sevoflurane-treated mice (groups Sev-LVT and Sev-HVT) were subjected to air mixed with 1 vol% sevoflurane. After 4 hours of ventilation, the bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid was collected and analyzed for the levels of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6, and IL-10. Lung homogenates were harvested to detect the expression of nuclear factor-kppa B (NF-кB) and heme oxygenase (HO)-1 mRNA by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction method. Lung damage was evaluated using the modified Ventilator-Induced Lung Injury histological scoring system. Results: Compared to group Con-LVT, the levels of TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, and IL-10 in BAL fluid, mRNA expressions of NF-кB and HO-1 in lung tissue, and lung injury scores were significantly increased in group Con-HVT; compared to group Con-HVT, group Sev-HVT BAL samples showed decreased levels of TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6; they also showed increased levels of IL-10, the downregulation of NF-кB mRNA, and HO-1 mRNA upregulation; the lung injury scores were significantly lower in group Sev-HVT than group Con-HVT. Conclusion: Mechanical ventilation with high tidal volume might lead to lung injury, which could be significantly, but not completely, attenuated by sevoflurane inhalation by inhibiting the NF-кB-mediated proinflammatory cytokine generation and upregulating HO-1 expression.

Abstract: This paper analyzes the impact of risk aversion and retailer’s cost lied factor on supply chain decision-making in a hybrid channel supply chain system consisting of a risk-averse manufacturer and a retailer. According to the expected utility maximization theory, this paper gets the optimal decision of the manufacturer and retailer. First, it analyzes the impact of risk aversion factor on pricing decisions of supply chain members when the information of the retailer’s cost is public. Next, this paper considers the fact that the retailer has advantages on cost information, analyzes the relations between the retailer’s optimal cost lied factor and each parameter.

Abstract: To design a multi-population adaptive genetic BP algorithm, crossover probability and mutation probability are self-adjusted according to the standard deviation of population fitness in this paper. Then a hybrid model combining Fuzzy Neural Network and multi-population adaptive genetic BP algorithm—Adaptive Genetic Fuzzy Neural Network (AGFNN) is proposed to overcome Neural Network’s drawbacks. Furthermore, the new model has been applied to financial distress prediction and the effectiveness of the proposed model is performed on the data collected from a set of Chinese listed corporations using cross validation approach. A comparative result indicates that the performance of AGFNN model is much better than the ones of other neural network models.

Abstract: This paper firstly described the dam break in the aspects of theories and models. Break parameters prediction, the understanding of dam break mechanics, peak outflow prediction were shown as the essential for the dam break analysis, and eventually determined the loss of the damages. Secondly, as an application example, Foster Joseph Sayers Dam break was further modeled and analyzed using USACE Hydrologic Engineering Center’s River Analysis System (HEC-RAS) model based on available geometry data. The results show that dam break is a complicated and comprehensive process involving lots of principles. Combination of mechanics and case studies, reflection of predominant mechanisms of headcut erosion, more specific categorization of dam, prudent investigation and inference of dam break process are needed in developing a satisfactory dam break simulation model. Foster Joseph Sayers Dam break due to piping elongates the time period of high water surface level, which increases the duration of risk. However, the dam break does not increase the downstream maximum water surface elevation (Max. W.S. Elev) significantly at previous design Probable Maximum Flood (PMF). Dam break has a greater impact on the downstream location where is closer to the dam in accordance with the comparison of the hydrographs at different downstream locations. Sensitivity analysis demonstrates that the changes of dam break parameters had no much influence on the downstream Max. W.S. Elev.

Abstract: This paper reviews the research literature with respect to the contributions to the students’ difficulties in their algebra learning in order to understand the students’ difficulties in algebra learning. To start with, 29 articles selected from the database (ERIC) are categorized into a taxonomy which has been generated from the research literature, which falls into five categories including: algebra content, cognitive gap, teaching issues, learning matters, and transition knowledge. The challenges that students confront with under those categories are unpacked in the review process. In addition, the five categories adopted in this paper could serve as a framework of better understanding students’ difficulties in their algebra learning. Finally, the research gap from the literature review is discussed.

Abstract: The Cantor’s conclusion that “there is a one-one correspondence between the points on n-dimensional space and the points on the line” appears in the numerous current documents. By introducing a monotonic and continuous function, a one-one correspondence between two intervals is built; and by using parametric equations of the curve, a one-one correspondence from the points on the curve to the points on the line is established. Specially, the meanings of multivariate functions are given. By using a n-variable equation with a parameter, a correspondence from n-dimensional space area to a interval is built, so the wrong conclusion is completely denied. The paper enriches calculus and can reduce the teaching difficulty of real function in some degree. The expression of moving curve (surface) limit is given in the paper. More importantly, after the conclusion is corrected, it will be necessary and possible to re-establish the theory and the approach about multivariable differential calculus.
A New Robust Color Image Watermarking Scheme Based on 3D-DCT  [PDF]

Abstract:

In this paper, for color image copyright protection application, a new and blind color image watermarking algorithm based on quantitation method in three dimensional discrete cosine transform (3D-DCT) is proposed. Firstly, the original RGB color image is divided into non-overlapping blocks sized 8 × 8 × 3, and then performs 3D-DCT transform on each block. Secondly, embed a bit watermarking signal into each block’s 3D-DCT direct-current (DC) coefficient by quantization method. The results show that the proposed scheme has very good imperceptibility and robustness against the common image processing attacks. Compared with similar algorithm, the proposed scheme has better robustness performance for most attacks.

Abstract:

The ecological environment promotes the construction of smart grids, while the smart substation is the key to the construction of smart grids. Based on the supervision of the Zigui 220 KV smart substation project in the Three Gorges Reservoir Region of China, this paper studies how to well create the supervision for the smart substation project construction. With the research focus of “four-control, two-management and one-coordination” in the supervision and according to the problems and experience in the project construction, some reasonable suggestions are put forward, and then the accumulated methods and experience by supervisors when they are engaged in the supervision for the smart substation project construction are summarized.

Abstract: The China stock market and institutional investors have experienced an extraordinary development during the past decades. Therefore, it is important to examine the real effects of institutional investors. This paper investigates relationship between institutional investors and firm value using Chinese listed companies from 2008 to 2014. This paper finds that institutional investors help improve firm value. Further analysis shows that institutional investors improve firm value by increasing cash dividend payout. The empirical results of this paper show that institutional investors help improve corporate governance and reduce agency costs.
