Abstract: The virtual slide(s) for this article can be found here: http://www.diagnosticpathology.diagnomx.eu/vs/6573514507145351 webciteArrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) is a heart muscle disease clinically characterized by life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias [1]. It involves progressive fibrous and fatty replacement of myocardium in the inflow, apical and outflow portions of the right ventricle, resulting in ventricular tachycardia with incurrent risk of sudden death and in a proportion of cases, progressive RV dysfunction [1-5]. The ARVC without arrhythmias has not been documented and hence has been easily misdiagnosed. Consensus diagnostic criteria were developed which included MRI, echocardiography, electrocardiography and right ventricular biopsy [6]. The right ventricular biopsy, however, often gives a false-negative result because of the segmental nature of ARVC [7,8]. In this paper, we reported a case of ARVC without arrthymias which was initially misdiagnosed as dilated cardiomyopathy but later the MRI and pathology examination of the explanted heart have proved ARVC as correct diagnosis in this atypical case. The significance of MRI and possible mechanism of ARVC were discussed.A 42-year-old woman presented with severe abdominal distension and shortness of breath without syncope and chest pain. The patient had class IV right cardiac insufficiency by New York Heart Association (NYHA) classification. No previous similar medical history was found in her family. On physical examination, her blood pressure was 122/72?mmHg. The skin and mucosae was stained mildly yellow. She had obvious distention of jugular vein. Neither moist nor dry rale can be auscultated in her lungs. Heart rate was 98?~?100?bpm. 2/6?~?3/6 systolic cardiac murmurs can be auscultated at tricuspid valve. Her liver can be palpated 3.0?cm lower under right costal margin and 5.0?cm lower under the xiphoid process. She had positive signs of ascites with moderate to severe pitting

Abstract: Background and objective Although there are increasing reports on localization of tracheal stem cells, the mechanism of proliferation and differentiation of tracheal stem cells remains unclear. Methods In this study, we developed an ex vivo model of murine tracheal epithelial injury and regeneration induced by 5-FU. The regenerationprocess of murine tracheal epithelium was observed and analyzed by morphological, immunofluorescence and microarray methods. Results After treatment with 5-FU, the differentiated mature cells were dead and desquamated. Only a few cells remained in G0 phase and located on the basement membrane. After being put back in normal culture media, the cells became flat, cubic and restored as pseudostratified epithelium at last. These G0 phase cells were ABCG2 positive. We detected the differences of stem cell genes between normal tracheal epithelial cells and regenerated epithelial cells at 24 h and 48 h after injured by 5-FU using stem cell differentiation gene microarray. At 24 h, 8 genes were up-regulated and 31 genes were down-regulated. At 48 h, 5 genes were up-regulated and 42 genes were down-regulated. Conclusion The differently expressed genes were mainly associated with cell cycle regulation, intercellular junction, FGF, BMP, Notch and Wnt signaling pathways, which suggested these alterations might be closely associated with the proliferation and differentiation of tracheal stem cells.

Abstract: Immunohistochemistry (IHC) for detecting key signal molecules involved in programmed cell death (PCD) in archival human pathology specimens is fairly well established. Detection of cleaved caspase-3 in lymphocytes in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and gastric surface foveolar glandular epithelia but not in synoviocytes in RA, gastric fundic glandular epithelia, or nasal NK/T-cell lymphoma (NKTCL) cells suggests anti-apoptotic mechanisms in cell differentiation and in oncogenesis such as the induction of survivin. Enzymatically pretreated and ultra-super sensitive detection of beclin-1 in synoviocytes in RA and gastric fundic glandular epithelia suggests enhanced autophagy. The deposition of beclin-1 in fibrinoid necrosis in RA and expression of beclin-1 in detached gastric fundic glandular cells suggest that enhanced autophagy undergoes autophagic cell death (ACD). NKTCL exhibited enhanced autophagy through LC3 labeling and showed densely LC3 labeled cell-debris in regions of peculiar necrosis without deposition of beclin-1, indicating massive ACD in NKTCL and the alternative pathway enhancing autophagy following autophagic vesicle nucleation. Autophagy progression was monitored by labeling aggregated mitochondria and cathepsin D. The cell-debris in massive ACD in NKTCL were positive for 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine, suggesting DNA oxidation occurred in ACD. Immunohistochemical autophagy and PCD analysis in archival human pathology specimens may offer new insights into autophagy in humans.

Abstract: An index system and its standard value for comprehensive assessment of the eco-agriculture in Shandong Province were determined in this paper. With integrated evaluation of four different types of eco-agricultural sites in this province, ways for application of the standard values to four evaluation methods were studied, and the important function of standard values for eco-agricultural assessment was proved.

Abstract: Over 3000 rice plants with T-DNA carrying a Ds element were constructed by Agrobacterium tumefaciens mediation. Using inverse PCR methodology, 590 unique right flanking sequences of T-DNA (Ds) were retrieved from independent transformants and classified into six main types on the basis of the origin of filler DNA between the right border of T-DNA and flanking sequence of rice genome. Type I sequences were the most common and showed canonical integration that T-DNA right border was followed by rice genome sequence with or without filler DNA of no more than 50 bp, while type II sequences displayed a vector-genome combination that T-DNA right border was followed by a vector fragment and then connected with rice genome sequence. The location and distribution of 340 type I and II flanking sequences on the rice chromosome were determined using BLAST analysis. The 340 Ds insertions at an average interval of 0.8 megabase (Mb) constructed a basic framework of Ds starter points on whole rice chromosomes. The frequency of T-DNA (Ds) inserted into the exons of predicted genes on chromosome one was 21%. Knowledge of T-DNA (Ds) locations on chromosomes will prove to be a useful resource for isolating rice genes by Ds transposon tagging as these Ds insertions can be used as starting lines for further mutagenesis.
Finding More Relevance: Propagating Similarity on Markov Random Field for Image Retrieval

Abstract: To effectively retrieve objects from large corpus with high accuracy is a challenge task. In this paper, we propose a method that propagates visual feature level similarities on a Markov random field (MRF) to obtain a high level correspondence in image space for image pairs. The proposed correspondence between image pair reflects not only the similarity of low-level visual features but also the relations built through other images in the database and it can be easily integrated into the existing bag-of-visual-words(BoW) based systems to reduce the missing rate. We evaluate our method on the standard Oxford-5K, Oxford-105K and Paris-6K dataset. The experiment results show that the proposed method significantly improves the retrieval accuracy on three datasets and exceeds the current state-of-the-art retrieval performance.

Abstract: Because of thinking only the number of numbers but not fitting function, it would be adequate to take further afield when calculating group numbers with empirical formula. We have proved the three theorems based on studying the normal distribution, and then reach the conclusion that there is a better method to do the same work. The method is simpler and more practical than empirical method and also works well with any skewed distribution.

Jia Wu, Gao Jia
Journal of Applied Mathematics and Physics (JAMP) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/jamp.2018.64068
Abstract:
In this paper, the existence of a pair of ordered solutions for the following class of equations in \"\" \"\" (1) was studied. A bounded (PS) (Palais-Smale) sequence was constructed and the related variational principle was used to prove the existence of the positive solution. The existence of the ordered solutions is finally found.
