New Method for Identification of Blue Topaz—An Application of Cathodoluminescence(CL)

Abstract: Blue colored topaz is the most commercialized gemstone worldwide at present. Very rare in nature, most of these topazes are treated by laboratory irradiation with gamma ray, neutron or electron, or in combination with them ever since more than 30 years ago. Knowledge about the origin of the blue color in topazes is not well understood, and a method to identify blue topaz nondestructively is a worldwide problem. In this research, the tested samples were natural blue, colorless topazes and irradiated blue topazes which were firstly tested by using UV lamp (????=365, 254nm). Results showed that the UV fluorescence of the natural blue topazes ranged from very strong to very weak, while those of the irradiated blue topazes were always very weak or even no fluorescence. Based on the UV fluorescence testing, their cathodoluminescence(CL) characteristics were studied emphasisly by using CL-2 cathodoluminescence spectroscope produced by Gemmological Institute of CUG and USB2000 CCD multi-channel spectroscope produced by Ocean Optics, U.S. For this study, CL spectra was acquired at an accelerating voltage of 9.5~10.5 kV, a 0.95~1.05 mA beam current, and entrance and exit slit widths of 4 mm. Results indicated that the maximum of the broad emission bands of all the topazes were always at approximately 500 nm with a side band at approximately 492 nm, and CL of natural blue topazes was the strongest (about 40~50 counts), followed by the natural colorless topazes (about 20~30 counts) and the irradiated blue topazes(less than 15 counts), only 1/3 of the natural blue topazes. Therefore, CL characteristics could be used to separate the natural blue topaz from the irradiated blue topazes rapidly and nondestructively.
Multiplex PCR for 17 Y-Chromosome Specific Short Tandem Repeats (STR) to Enhance the Reliability of Fetal Sex Determination in Maternal Plasma

Abstract: The aim of the study was to demonstrate the influence of target gene and amplification product length on the performance of fetal gender determination systems using maternal plasma. A total of 40 pairs of plasma DNA samples from pregnant women and genomic DNA samples from maternal blood, amniotic fluid and paternal blood were isolated for gender determination by amplification of the amelogenin gene and 17 Y-chromosome STR loci, using three different commercial kits. The gender of the fetuses was confirmed by cytogenetic analysis or phenotype at birth. Both the AmpF?STR-Identifiler amplification kit and the Mini-STR Amplification kit for amelogenin gene detection were reliable in determining fetal gender (92.0% and 96.0%, respectively), but false negatives were present in both systems. AmpF?STR-Yfiler was found to be fully reliable as it amplified Y-STR in all cases of pregnancies with male fetuses and thus was 100% correct in determining fetal gender. The results demonstrated that multiple fluorescent PCR for 17 Y-STR loci was more reliable than AMELY gene testing in fetal sex determination with maternal plasma. We also found that the shorter amplification products could improve the performance of fetal gender determination systems.
Application of Vacuum Drying to Silica Sol Ceramic Mold

Abstract: Silica sol ceramic mold was made at room temperature with JN-30 silica sol, silica powder and NH4Cl. It is found that the harden time of silica sol ceramic mold is only 0.5 to 1.5 h under the amount of NH4CI solution of 7% to 8% with 15% concentration, and less surface cracks occur by using vacuum drying. The proper vacuum drying process parameters: vacuum drying temperature is 80 to 100℃, drying time is 5 h and vacuum is 0.06 to 0.07 MPa. The harden mechanics, vacuum drying mechanics and the reason of less surface cracks of silica sol ceramic mold by vacuum drying were also analyzed in this paper.

Abstract: Aiming at the limitations of psychopathology (PTH), the dual-factor model of mental health (DFM) was proposed as a new mental health concept and methodology under the background of positive psychology trend. In this paper we propose giving an overview of DFM, and doubt, criticize, and modify DFM from the perspective of Chinese psychological suzhi research. The available literature from 1983 to 2012 that is related to DFM and concerning psychological suzhi research in the past 20 years has been reviewed. In addition, we also absorbed the idea of positive psychology and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Constitution theory to develop theoretically the relationship model between psychological suzhi and mental health. The relationship model between psychological suzhi and mental health modifies and transcends PTH and DFM. It will be the new research area of mental health research.
The Relationship between the Meaning of Life and Mental Health of Junior Middle School Students of Tujia and Hmong in Xiangxi, China  [PDF]

Abstract: This paper chooses groups of middle school students of the Tujia and the Hmong who both live in ethnic groups and have history of intermarriage and cultural identity between each other as subjects to study the relationship between meaning of life and mental health based on the Xiangxi culture, which aims to provide evidence for the mental health education for middle school students in ethnic regions. Firstly, to resort to the method of Literature Collection: Pay attention to the influence of Xiangxi culture on the meaning of life and the relationship between meaning of life and mental health during the analysis of the material, trying to find out the true meanings; Secondly, using the Purpose-in-Life Test (PIL) and Mental Health Test (MHT), 913 junior high school students were investigated by cluster random sampling method. The results of the study indicated that the total score of meaning of life was significantly correlated with anxiety in people, isolation tendency, allergic tendency and tendency to impulsive (p < 0.001), related to the tendency to panic (p < 0.05), and the correlation between learning anxiety and self accusation tendency was not significant (p > 0.05). In addition, stepwise regression analysis showed that the value of life was the most important factor to predict mental health in meaning of life, and the second was the quality of life and the freedom of life. Therefore, junior high school students’ meaning of life and their mental health levels has a certain relationship. Introduction of empirical investigation helps to better research and analyze the relationship between meaning of life and mental health of Chinese people in junior high school in Xiangxi area and provides the basis in the practice of junior high school students’ mental health education and life education.

Abstract: Crystallization behavior of the glass system AlF3-MgF2-CaF2-SrF2-BaF2-YF3-TeO2 (AMCSBY-TeO2) was studied by the nonisothermal method using differential thermal analysis. The activation energy E and Avrami exponent n were determined by nonisothermal method. It is found that the value of E varies with increasing TeO2 and reaches a minimum at 10 mol fraction TeO2, while n decreases from 3.65 to 1.78 with the addition of TeO2. X-ray diffraction shows that Ba2Te3O8, MgTe2O5, and SrTeO3 phase formed when the glasses were reheated. The addition of TeO2 changes the crystallization mechanism and improves the stability of the fluoroaluminate glass.

Abstract: This paper gives a brief analysis on the educational advantages and objects of NCWU. It believes that the educational philosophy and development direction of foreign school in engineering colleges must be set up on the basis of need of China and talents need, moreover, the development of the School of Foreign Studies must be analyzed by integrating into the whole development of NCWU. This paper put forwards the educational philosophy of “Drawing on Advantages, Avoiding Disadvantages, and Gearing Education to Society” and the Development Direction of “Rooted in Foreign Language and Characterised by Engineering and Business”. It analyzes the problem of school of foreign studies in NCWU in Specialty Construction, teaching team and Construction of Discipline and puts forwards some solutions.

Dual-Factor Model of Mental Health: Surpass the Traditional Mental Health Model  [PDF]

Abstract: Aiming at the limitations of traditional mental health model, the dual-factor model of mental health (DFM) was proposed as a new idea under the background of positive psychology trend. According to the DFM, mental health is a complete state; subjective well-being should be included into the mental health evaluation system as a positive indictor; in terms of prevention and intervention, the DFM asserted that the decrease of symptoms is only the first step of intervention, and the improvement of subjective well-being should be followed, in order to achieve the complete mental health states and reduce the recurrence of illness. Finally, this paper put forward evaluation on DFM and its future research directions.
