Regulation of Protein Function by Residue Oxidation

Abstract: A majority of extant life forms require O2 to survive and thrive. Oxidation is inevitably one of the most active cellular processes and one constant challenge that living organisms must face. Generation of oxidants including reactive oxygen species is a natural consequence of cellular metabolism of all biological systems during normal life cycle under different environments. These oxidants oxidize many biological macromolecules such as proteins and affect their functions. Oxidation of specific amino acids in proteins may cause damage to protein structure and impair function, or may also activate protein activities and promote cellular metabolism. As an example, the reversible oxidation of cysteine and methionine residues has a profound impact on protein function and cellular process. A recent study that examines the effect of Met oxidation on Ser phosphorylation in a mitochondrial enzyme, pyruvate dehydrogenase, provides another demonstration that protein oxidation is an important regulatory mechanism for organisms to deal with developmental and environmental challenges throughout life processes.
Mott Insulator-Superfluid Transition in a Generalized Bose-Hubbard Model with Topologically Non-trivial Flat-Band

Abstract: In this paper, we studied a generalized Bose-Hubbard model on a checkerboard lattice with topologically nontrivial flat-band. We used mean-field method to decouple the model Hamiltonian and obtained phase diagram by Landau theory of second-order phase transition. We further calculate the energy gap and the dispersion of quasi-particle or quasi-hole in Mott insulator state and found that in strong interaction limit the quasi-particles or the quasi-holes also have flat bands.
Majorana Edge States for Z2 Topological Orders of the Wen-plaquette Model and the Toric-code Model

Abstract: In this paper we study the symmetry protected Majorana edge states for the Z2 topological order of the Wen-plaquette model and the toric-code model and calculate the dispersion of the Majorana edge states. For the system with translational symmetry, the Majorana edge states are gapless and have the nodal points at k=0 and k=pi. For the edge states of the toric-code model without translational symmetry, the edge modes become gapped.

Abstract: In this paper we give a proposal to realize optical lattices with manipulated dislocations and study the physics of ultracold quantum gas on a two-dimensional (2D) optical square lattice with dislocations. In particular, the dislocations may induce fractional topological flux on 2D Peierls optical lattice. These results pave new approach to study the quantum many-body systems on an optical lattice with controllable topological lattice-defects, including the dislocations, topological fluxes.

Abstract: In this paper we developed theory of the ferrimagnetism in the Hubbard model on bipartite lattices with spectrum symmetry. We then study the defect-induced ferrimagnetic orders in three models and explored the universal features.
Emergent Supersymmetric Many-Body Systems in Doped Z2 Topological Spin Liquid of the Toric-Code Model

Abstract: In this paper, we studied the doped Z2 topological spin liquid of the toric-code model. We found that the doped holes become supersymmetric particles. The ground state of the doped Z2 topological spin liquid becomes new matters of quantum states - supersymmetric Bose-Einstein condensation or supersymmetric superfluid. As a result, this system provides a unique example of manipulatable supersymmetric many-body system.

Abstract: 分别采用sol-gel法和磁控溅射法在Si(001)单晶衬底上制备出(111)和(001)取向的MgO缓冲层薄膜,随后在其上生长Ba0.7Sr0.3TiO3(BST30)铁电薄膜.通过X射线衍射,扫描电子显微镜,原子力显微镜等方法研究了薄膜的微结构.实验结果发现,在较厚的MgO(001)缓冲层上可长出(101)取向的BST30薄膜,而在较薄的MgO(111) 缓冲层上则表现出(101)和(111)取向相互竞争的现象,随着MgO(111)缓冲
Genetic Mineralogy of Andalusite in Xiongcun Porphyry Copper-Gold Oredeposit, Tibet

Abstract: There are abundant andalusites in the Xiongcun porphyry copper-gold deposit.Three major assemblages are recognized,i.e.,quartz-K-feldspar-muscovite/sericite-andalusite assemblage,andalusite-quartz-sericite/muscovite assemblage,and quartz andalusite sulfide veins.The mineral association,texture and composition of andalusites indicate that the andalusites are of hydrothermal type.The quartz-K-feldspar-muscovite/sericite-andalusite assemblage in early K-silicate alteration zone was formed under the conditions of fairly high temperatures(above 550℃) and relatively low + K/+ H ratios.Early K-silicate alteration was replaced by later phyllic/sericitic alteration under lower P-T and higher + K/+ H conditions,and meteoric water probably entered the collapsed hydrothermal system during this period.Quartz-andalusite-sulfide veins with sericite alteration envelope occur rather rarely and are only observed within the phyllic alteration zone.This assemblage was formed under lower P-T and higher + K/+ H condition.Andalusite assemblages are similar to the El Salvador porphyry copper deposit in Chile.Volcanic tuff and porphyry stock had rich Al 2 O 3,which was favorable for the formation of andalusite.The andalusite within different assemblages helps reconstruct the P-T condition of the magmatic-hydrothermal process.
Vacancy of laser field induced by phase reflection in underdense plasmas and its relation to laser-plasma parameters

Abstract: It is shown theoretically and by particle- in-cell simulations that the plasma density modulation produced by laser in underdense pre-plasmas can serve as a Bragg reflector, which results in phase reflection occurring at low-density plasma area. The phase reflection can influence the laser propagating in plasmas, such as the vacancy of laser field induced by two laser pulses counter-propagating in plasmas. It is also shown that the period of phase reflection and the reflectivity are related with the plasma density, thickness, intensity and the duration of laser.
