A Study of Quasi-Monochromatic X-Ray Sources for Breast Cancer Early Detection  [PDF]

Abstract: Objectives: Early detection and treatment provide the opportunity to decrease the mortality rate from breast cancer. Quasi-monochromatic technique can enhance low contrast lesion detection by eliminating beam-hardening artifacts. We hypothesized that this technique would be feasible and can be used to assist in breast cancer early detection. Methods: The performance of stationary Digital Breast Tomosynthesis with quasi-monochromatic X-ray sources was evaluated using both simulated and physical phantoms. Normalized spectra in the fraction of total photons vs. photon energy were generated. Results: As expected, the peaked energies from sources, from smallest to largest, are Mo/Mo, W/Ag-1000, and W/Ce-10, W/Ce-100. For contrast vs. noise standard deviation on the simulated CIRS phantom, W/Ce-100 and W/Ce-10 have similar performance on both low and high contrast objects. For low contrast object, W/Ce-100 is barely noticeably better than W/Ce-10, and they are better than both W/Ag-1000 and Mo/Mo. For high contrast objects W/Ce-10 is slightly better than W/Ce-100. The spectra of the implemented W/Ce-10 X-ray source were measured, which matched the simulation well. The contrast noise ratios of reconstructed objects in American College of Radiology mammographic phantom with and without using W/Ce-10 combination are 7.1 and 5.4, respectively. Conclusions: The combination of stationary digital breast tomosynthesis and quasi-monochromatic technique can compensate the loss of X-ray flux due to heavy K-edge filtering. This technique can enable the stationary DBT scanners to operate at acceptable scanning times with better low contrast lesion detectability. Advances in Knowledge: The stationary digital breast tomosynthesis can provide high quality images within short scanning time by using X-ray source array, which makes quasi-monochromatic technique feasible.
On Farmer’s Willingness to Small Forest Tenure Mortgage Loans —A Case Study on Yibin of Sichuan

Abstract: Based on the survey data of 364 peasant households in Yibin, Sichuan, this paper analyzes the farmer’s willingness to small forest tenure mortgage loans. The result indicates a high willingness up to 74.2%, i.e. the farmers are willing to invest forest tenure mortgage loans into forestry and agricultural production. The influential factors on farmer’s willingness to small forest tenure mortgage loans include age, education, forest area, the main source of family income, perception on the policies of forest tenure mortgage loans, social services of forestry, financial institutions, etc. We propose the policy advocacy of forest tenure mortgage loans be enhanced, mortgage loans of different period be designed for different purposes, and discount policy on small mortgage loans be issued.
Effects of a Nurse-Led Educational Intervention for Chinese Adult Patients with Psoriatic Arthritis: A Case-Control Study  [PDF]

Abstract: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of an individual nurse-led educational intervention for patients with psoriatic arthritis (PsA). This was a case-control study. The case group consisted of six individual educational sessions delivered by a nurse. A total of 40 patients with PsA joined in this study: the case group (n = 20) and the control group (n = 18). After a 6-week intervention, the case group had significantly better management for the severity of arthritis symptoms (p < 0.05), better psychological well-being and significant lower levels of anxiety (p < 0.05), and depression score (p < 0.01), and reported better improvement of physical and psychological domain of quality of life (QOL) (both p values < 0.05) than the control group. In conclusion, this nurse-led individual education intervention has statistically significant benefits for the management of clinical symptoms of arthritis and for psychological well-being and QOL in patients with PsA.
Double-Lumen Needle Follicular Flushing System versus Single-Lumen Aspiration Needle in IVF/ICSI Patients with Poor Ovarian Response: A Meta-Analysis  [PDF]

Abstract: Background: The present study performed a meta-analysis to comprehensively analyze existing randomized controlled trials (RCT) involving the use of double-lumen needle in patients with poor ovarian response to explore whether double-lumen needle was good for specific patients. Methods: The PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library databases and two randomized controlled trials registration centers were thoroughly searched until April 2017. The clinical outcomes of IVF/ICSI cycles were compared between two groups with double-lumen needle and single-lumen needle. Results: Four RCT studies were included in this present meta-analysis. The oocytes yield was similar in two groups (OR 0.88, 95%CI 0.66 - 1.16; I2 = 4%). The procedure time with double-lumen needle was significantly longer than that with single-lumen needle (IV = 1.98, 95%CI 0.95 - 3.00; I2 = 86%). The fertilization rate with double-lumen needle was lower than that with single-lumen needle (OR 0.66, 95%CI 0.44 - 0.97; I2 = 0%). There was no significant difference of live birth rate in two groups (OR 0.76, 95%CI 0.32 - 1.76; I2 = 41%). Conclusion: Double-lumen needle could not benefit patients with a POR in terms of the number of oocytes retrieved, oocyte recovery rate, normal fertilization rate, clinical pregnancy rate, and live birth rate, compared with single-lumen needle.

Abstract: The tight sand reservoir in Dabei Area has been the main block of exploration and development of natural gas inTarimBasin. Because of low porosity and fracture development, there exist errors in calculation of reservoir saturation. According to micro-resistivity image logging and acoustic full-wave logging, the reservoir fractural effectiveness is quantitatively evaluated; the result indicates that the reservoir with Stoneley wave permeability is greater than 0.2 × 10-3μm2; the reservoir connection is good. If the FVPA is greater than 0.055%; the fractures are developed. A new matrix saturation model is established based on the conductive pore water in consideration of the influence of low porosity. After modeling and analyzing the effect of porosity and its occurrence on the cementation index, the method for saturation calculation in Kuqa Area is established: the newly established dual porosity model is for fracture developed reservoirs, and the model based on the conductive pore water is for fracture less-developed reservoirs. By comparing the results of saturation in mercury injection experiment from coring section, precision of the calculation method is proven.

Abstract: Objective: To investigate the relationship between AMPKα, PGCα, insulin resistance and reproductive function in PCOS mice and to find out the molecular mechanisms and potential therapeutic molecular targets of pathogenesis of PCOS. Methods: The PCOS mouse model was established by DHEA administering with Balb/c mice. And after AMPK agonist AICAR and inhibitor Compound C intervention, Fasting blood glucose, fasting insulin and testosterone levels were observed. The HOMA index was calculated. The changes of PGCα expression in ovarian tissue were observed by western blot and immunohistochemistry to determine the relationship between insulin resistance and PGCα in PCOS mice. Results: Western blot and immunohistochemistry showed that PGC1α protein was expressed in the ovary of mice and the expression of PGC1α was negatively correlated with AMPKα in our study. Compared with the control group, the expression of PGC1α in the ovaries of the mice in PCOS group was significantly increased (P < 0.05), after intervention with AMPK agonist AICAR, the expression of PGC1α in PCOS + AICAR group was lower than that in PCOS group (P < 0.05). It is worth noting that the expression of PGC1α in PCOS mice exposed to AMPK inhibitor Compound C also decreased compared with PCOS group (P < 0.05). Conclusion: In ovarian tissue, the insulin resistance-related AMPKα pathway in PCOS mice may be negatively correlated with PGCα.

Abstract: Nine strains of ammonia nitrogen degradation strains from C1 to C9 were isolated from industrial wastewater to study their degradation and conversion of ammonia nitrogen. The results showed that C2 strain with a high degradation activiity of ammonia nitrogen, and the ammonia nitrogen degradation rate of the activated C2 strain was 93% within 24 h when the initial concentration of ammonia nitrogen was 200 mg/L under the conditions of inoculation 10%, temperature 35?C, pH 7.0, rotation 200 r/min. And C2 was identified as Bacillus amyloliquefaciens.
CIAPIN1 nuclear accumulation predicts poor clinical outcome in epithelial ovarian cancer

Abstract: Immunohistochemistry was performed to detect CIAPIN1 expression in 108 EOC tissues. CIAPIN1 expressions in eight fresh EOC tissues were detected by Western blotting. The relationship between CIAPIN1 subcellular expression and patients’ clinicopathological features, including prognosis, was evaluated. Immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence were employed to assess the CIAPIN1 subcellular localization in the EOC cell lines A2780 and HO8910. In addition, all patients were followed up to assess the prognostic value of CIAPIN1 in patients with EOC.CIAPIN1 is highly expressed in EOC, but is present at low levels in paired non-cancerous ovarian epithelial tissues. The results of Western blotting were in accordance with the immunohistochemical results. Poor differentiation of the tumors and EOC cell lines correlated with higher levels of CIAPIN1 nuclear expression. CIAPIN1 nuclear expression significantly correlated with the Federation International of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) stage and histological differentiation (P?=?0.034 and P?<?0.0001, respectively). Moreover, nuclear localization of CIAPIN1 was selected as an unfavorable prognostic factor by both univariate and multivariate analyses ( P?<?0.001). However, no significant correlations were observed between cytoplasmic localization of CIAPIN1 and clinicopathological parameters.CIAPIN1 might play a crucial role in the differentiation of EOC cells. Elevated expression of nuclear CIAPIN1 negatively correlated with the survival of EOC patients, suggesting that nuclear CIAPIN1 might serve as a prognostic biomarker for EOC patients.

Abstract: An optical scheme for probabilistic teleporting entangled squeezed vacuum states (SVS) is proposed. In this scheme, the teleported state is a bipartite entangled SVS, and the quantum channel is a tripartite entangled SVS. The process of the teleportation is achieved by using a 50/50 symmetric beamsplitter and photon detectors with the help of classical information.
Divergence-free H(div)-conforming hierarchical bases for magnetohydrodynamics (MHD)

Abstract: In order to solve the magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) equations with a $\mathbf{\mathcal{H}}(\mathbf{div})$-conforming element, a novel approach is proposed to ensure the exact divergence-free condition on the magnetic field. The idea is to add on each element an extra interior bubble function from higher order hierarchical $\mathbf{\mathcal{H}}(\mathbf{div})$-conforming basis. Four such hierarchical bases for the $\mathbf{\mathcal{H}}% (\mathbf{div})$-conforming quadrilateral, triangular, hexahedral and tetrahedral elements are either proposed (in the case of tetrahedral) or reviewed. Numerical results have been presented to show the linear independence of the basis functions for the two simplicial elements. Good matrix conditioning has been confirmed numerically up to the fourth order for the triangular element and up to the third order for the tetrahedral element.
