Digital biomedical electrical impedance tomography based on FPGA  [PDF]

A digital biomedical electrical impedance tomography (EIT) system is developed with the aid of FPGA. The key elements of EIT system are described specifically in the paper. The functions are realized to generate excitation source, switch electrode channels, deal collected signals, demodulate measured voltages etc. The system is tested by a circular tank with 16 stainless electrodes attached around the boundary. The adjacent incentive adjacent measurement mode is adapted to collect boundary voltages of the interesting field. By testing, the system works with 36 dB signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) when 1 mA 100 KHz current is applied into a homogenous tank.

Wireless local area network (WLAN) brings us a low cost and high bandwidth experience and thus plays a critically important role in current/future networks to support high-rate transmissions. To better provide quality-of-service (QoS) for WLAN users, we in this paper propose an improved scheme called “A-EDCA”(adaptive EDCA), based on enhanced distributed channel access (EDCA) of IEEE 802.11e under the infrastructure mode. Our proposed scheme aims at efficiently adapting the transmission over WLAN to the time-varying network conditions and mitigating the competition ability unfairness between access point (AP) and non-AP stations (STAs). Specifically, all non-AP STAs adaptive-ly modify the contention window based on the network condition. Moreover, AP skips the backoff phase by setting its backoff counter as zero when non-AP STA completes transmission successfully to relieve the unfairness. At last, simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Study on Reducing Leachate Production by Saw Powder Adding  [PDF]

Abstract: In order to study the effect of saw powder on leachate production, degradation of rubbish, COD and NH3-N concentration of leachate, three cylinder reactors for anaerobic landfill disposal were built to simulate the op-eration of landfill. In this experiment, leachate quantity, settling height of rubbish layer, COD and NH3-N concentration were monitored. The results come from experiment data analyses indicate that saw powder has strong effect on reducing leachate quantity and accelerating degradation of rubbish. In 60 days, saw powder mixed in rubbish layer can reduce 1200-1300mL leachate every liter rubbish, moreover, rubbish layer with saw powder mixed in settled more leachate than rubbish layer with no saw powder mixed in for 5cm. The ex-perimental results indicate that saw powder can reduce COD concentration of leachate and adsorb NH3-N, too.

Abstract: This paper investigates the numerical solution of two-dimensional nonlinear stochastic Itô-Volterra integral equations based on block pulse functions. The nonlinear stochastic integral equation is transformed into a set of algebraic equations by operational matrix of block pulse functions. Then, we give error analysis and prove that the rate of convergence of this method is efficient. Lastly, a numerical example is given to confirm the method.

The influences of Fe2+ on the aggregation behavior of residual hydrophobic modified polyacryamide (HMPAM) in treated oily wastewater were studied by fluorescence spectrum and DLS. The result of I1/I3 showed that the polarity of hydrophobic domain increased and the size of hydrophobic domain may be decreased with the increasing of Fe2+ in produced water. Fe2+ was helpful for the increase of hydrophobic domain, therefore due to the aggregation degree for HMPAM.

Abstract: During 2015, marginal scorch symptoms were detected in the production base of indigowoad rootin Hubei, China. On the basis of morphological features and 18S rDNA sequences, the pathogen was identified as Cladosporium sp. Koch’s postulates were fulfilled by pathogenicity tests on potted indigowoad root seedlings. To our knowledge, this report is the first of marginal scorch on indigowoad root caused by Cladosporium sp. We propose the name “marginal scorch” for the new disease.
Ranibizumab versus Bevacizumab for Ophthalmic Diseases Related to Neovascularisation: A Meta-Analysis of Randomised Controlled Trials

Abstract: Background Bevacizumab is believed to be as effective and safe as ranibizumab for ophthalmic diseases; however, its magnitude of effectiveness and safety profile remain controversial. Thus, a meta-analysis and systematic review appears necessary. Methods PubMed and EMBASE were systematically searched with no restrictions. All relevant citations comparing ranibizumab and bevacizumab were considered for inclusion. Pooled effect estimates were obtained using a fixed- and random-effects meta-analysis. Results Nine independent randomised-controlled clinical trials (RCTs) involving 2,289 participants were identified. Compared with bevacizumab, the overall combined weighted mean difference (WMD) of the mean change in visual acuity for ranibizumab was 0.52 letters (95% CI ?0.11–1.14). The odds ratios (ORs) of gaining ≥15, gaining 5–14, losing 5–14 and losing ≤15 letters were 1.10 (95% CI 0.90–1.33), 0.93 (95% CI 0.77–1.11), 0.89 (95% CI 0.65–1.22) and 0.95 (95% CI 0.73–1.25), respectively. The risk of serious systemic events increased by 17% (95% CI 6%–27%, p = 0.0042) for bevacizumab treatment in comparison with ranibizumab. No statistically significant differences between the two treatments were found for the nonfatal arterial thrombotic events, ocular serious adverse, death from vascular and all causes events. Conclusions Bevacizumab is not inferior to ranibizumab as a treatment for achieving visual acuity. The use of bevacizumab was associated with an increased risk of developing serious systemic events. Weighing the costs and health outcomes is necessary when selecting between bevacizumab and ranibizumab for ophthalmic diseases. Due to the limitations of the available data, further research is needed.

Strong law of large numbers is a fundamental theory in probability and statistics. When the measure tool is nonadditive, this law is very different from additive case. In 2010 Chen investigated the strong law of large numbers under upper probabilityVby assumingVis continuous. This assumption is very strong. Upper probabilities may not be continuous. In this paper we prove the strong law of large numbers for an upper probability without the continuity assumption whereby random variables are quasi-continuous and the upper probability is generated by a weakly compact family of probabilities on a complete and separable metric sample space.
