The Feminine Rebel: Treacherous Housewife-mothers and Aggressive Wives Fighting for Personal Identity in Authur Miller’s After the Fall
Xiaojuan YAO
Studies in Literature and Language , 2012, DOI: 10.3968/2263
Abstract: This article attempts to explore Arthur Miller’s representation of wife and mother characters in his play After the Fall. In the play, Miller puts more emphasis on his wife and mother characters’ awakening and rebellion. Miller portrays Rose as a treacherous housewife-mother who rebels against the idealized woman image of loving wife and sacrificial mother by becoming a separate person, asserting her own ambition and meeting her own demands. And through Louise’s victory in her fighting for personal identify, Miller shows women’s strong voices in their family. Besides, via Maggie’s tragedy in her self-pursuit, Miller proves that women can be as significant and tragic as men. In his effort to depict wife and mother’s rebellious spirits, Miller creates some complicated and diverse wife and mother images. So, that his representations of autonomous women achieve victories and suffer defeats disproves the viewpoint that Miller’s women are mere objects of male desire without self-defined identity. O’Neill’s Unconscious Shakespearean Orientation: The Comparative Study of The Emperor Jones and Macbeth
Xiaojuan YAO
Studies in Literature and Language , 2011,
Abstract: Based on the formers’ research, the paper mainly lays stress on a systematic new comparison between The Emperor Jones and Macbeth from much wider and specific aspects in order to unearth William Shakespeare’s influence on Eugene O’Neill, especially Macbeth on The Emperor Jones. In Macbeth and The Emperor Jones, both Macbeth’s hunger for power and Jones’ lust for materialistic grab result in their destruction. Besides, they are mercilessly mocked by fate, and become the victim of the then society. Thematically speaking, both Macbeth’s and Jones’ tragedies actually are not one-dimensional but three-dimensional, and can be interpreted as the combination of personality, fate and society. In both plays, Shakespeare and O’Neill adopt aural effect to create the frightful atmosphere and externalize the internal fear of our heroes. And both plays resort to similar symbols such as blackness or darkness, the royal robe and sea to depict the characters. Besides, through soliloquies, both plays tend to reveal the character’s conscious thought and unconscious emotions. Therefore, it can be proved that when Eugene O’Neill chooses the themes and special dramaturgy for The Emperor Jones, he unconsciously adopts much from Macbeth. Studies in Literature and Language , 2012, DOI: 10.3968/j.sll.1923156320120503.1119
Abstract: The article attempts to examine Arthur Miller’s biographical background especially his mother, his wives and the other women around him and investigate his relationship with them in order to gain a better understanding of the wife and mother figures in Miller’s plays. Seen from the more general background, Miller’s particular outlook on wives and mothers is influenced greatly by his biographical background. His mother’s struggle with his father and her desire for knowledge as well as her courage and strength in the economic crisis, together with his own three marriages, especially his tremulous life with the sex symbol Marilyn Monroe and also all the other women around him all contribute to his shaping of authentic and complex wife and mother images in his plays. Key words: Arthur Miller; Understanding; Mothers; Wives
Aerodynamic System Modeling based on Proper Orthogonal Decomposition
Weigang Yao,Min Xu,Xiaojuan Wang
International Journal of Information Technology and Computer Science , 2011,
Abstract: The main goal of present paper is to construct an efficient reduced order model (ROM) for aerodynamic system modeling. Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD) is presented to address the problem. First, the snapshots are collected to form the POD kernel, and then Singular Values Decomposition (SVD) is used to obtain POD modes, finally POD-ROM can be constructed by projecting full order aerodynamic system to POD modes subspace. Two problems are addressed: (1) aerodynamic data inverse design; (2) aeroelastic structure active control. For the second problem, POD method with balanced modification is introduced to improve the robustness of original POD method. Results in problem (1) suggest POD method works efficiently not only for interpolation inverse design but also for extrapolation problems. The results in problem (2) demonstrate POD method with balanced modification is efficient and accurate enough for aeroelastic system analysis.
Confined Spirits’ Struggle: Housewife-mother Figures in Arthur Miller’s Early Plays
Xiaojuan Yao,Tiannan Zhou,Yufei Long
English Language and Literature Studies , 2012, DOI: 10.5539/ells.v2n3p31
Abstract: Mainly based on textual analysis, the present article attempts to offer a relatively comprehensive and detailed look into Miller’s depiction of dramatic housewife-mother figures in a gendered world in his early plays especially in All My Sons and Death of a Salesman and elaborate his female awareness from a feminist point of view and via employing the historical-biographical approach. In his early plays, by depicting his major housewife-mother figures—Kate Keller and Linda Loman as both wives and mothers according to the social condition and dominant cultural value, Miller is still possible to expose their bitterness and frustration in the traditional gender world by depicting them as both victims and victimizers under the patriarchal society. And he also endows them with courage and strength to express their resentment against the male-dominance and release their confined consciousness. So, the portrayal of these housewife-mother images has demonstrated that Miller can represent confined housewife-mothers sympathetically, authentically and admirably in his early plays.
Efficiency Research of Chinese Commercial Banks Based on Super-Efficiency DEA Method  [PDF]
Xiaojuan Fan
American Journal of Industrial and Business Management (AJIBM) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/ajibm.2016.64048
Abstract: This paper tries to analyze Chinese three types of bank’s efficiency changes and differences, after the financial crisis, through the integrated use of DEA and super efficiency DEA method. The results show that: the efficiency of Chinese commercial Banks in general is on the rise, the comprehensive technical efficiency growth stems mainly from scale efficiency improvement, pure technical efficiency is stagnant, and scale efficiency presents convergence among all kinds of banks, while the technical level is the core strength of banks’ current and future competition. State-owned banks with the technology competitive advantage and scale efficiency improved, began to catch up with other banks, reversed the operational inefficiency; City commercial banks due to the system advantage were more easily to be in the efficient production frontier surface.

Journal of Applied Mathematics and Physics (JAMP) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/jamp.2017.51010
Abstract: Equations of the reaction-diffusion type are very well known and have been extensively studied in many research areas. In this paper, the prolongation structures for the system of the reaction-diffusion type are investigated from theory of coverings. The realizations and the classifications of the one-dimensional coverings of the system are researched. And the corresponding conservation law of the one-dimensional Abelian coverings is concluded, which is closely connected with the symmetry of the system by Noether theorem.

Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience , 2014, DOI: 10.3389/fnagi.2014.00105
Abstract: Recent neuroimaging studies have revealed normal aging-related alterations in functional and structural brain networks such as the default mode network (DMN). However, less is understood about specific brain structural dependencies or interactions between brain regions within the DMN in the normal aging process. In this study, using Bayesian network (BN) modeling, we analyzed grey matter volume data from 109 young and 82 old subjects to characterize the influence of aging on associations between core brain regions within the DMN. Furthermore, we investigated the discriminability of the aging-associated BN models for the young and old groups. Compared to their young counterparts, the old subjects showed significant reductions in connections from right inferior temporal cortex (ITC) to medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC), right hippocampus (HP) to right ITC, and mPFC to posterior cingulate cortex (PCC) and increases in connections from left HP to mPFC and right inferior parietal cortex (IPC) to right ITC. Moreover, the classification results showed that the aging-related BN models could predict group membership with 88.48% accuracy, 88.07% sensitivity and 89.02% specificity. Our findings suggest that structural associations within the DMN may be affected by normal aging and provide crucial information about aging effects on brain structural networks.
Local Gateway Assisted Handover Key Derivation in Enterprise Femtocell Network  [PDF]
Peng Wang, Xiaojuan Zhang
Int'l J. of Communications, Network and System Sciences (IJCNS) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/ijcns.2015.84009

With the dense deployment of femtocells in enterprise femtocell network and the small coverage of femtocells, handover in enterprise femtocell network will be frequent. The general handover key derivation method which is used in handover procedures in LTE is not suitable for handover in this scenario because of its long time cost and the weak security. To solve this problem, this paper has proposed a new local gateway assisted handover key derivation schema in enterprise femtocell network. It can meet the fast derivation and good forward/backward key secrecy requirement of handover key derivation in enterprise femtocell network. The simulation result has verified that the proposed handover key derivation schema works better than the existing method.
