Xuan Zhao
Psychology (PSYCH) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2017.86050
Abstract: The boy crisis is not unique in China. It has become an international phenomenon. Boy crisis is a kind of social phenomenon from recessive to dominant. Some Chinese scholars agree that boys’ performance at all levels of education is falling behind the girls, which is a common situation of boy crisis. This paper focuses on socialization of boys’ gender role, and summarizes that physiological differences, improper school education causes, absence of father’s role in family education exacerbate and aggravate junior middle school boys’ learning disabilities and academic inferiority. Shanghai YP Experimental School (SYPES) is a private junior middle school found in 1995, which devotes to improving junior middle school boys’ academic level through effective intervention as to create enough space for boys’ growth; promote objective evaluation of boys’ inappropriate behavior; mobilize the power of parents; create more display platform in campus; strengthen the development of school-based curriculum, to stimulate the interest of boys through multiple courses; create a good dynamic classroom environment, and effectively improve the interest and efficiency of boys in classroom learning; form flexible and effective mechanism of process evaluation to keep the boys’ interest in learning; develop boys’ good learning habit in a planned way, and promote the sustainable development of boys; promote boys’ teambuilding to promote the cooperation and competition consciousness in daily education and accumulate local experience.
Finding Lost Words: How Non-Profit Organizations in China Effectively Participate in Policy Advocacy?
—Based on the Successful Experience of Friends of Nature

Xuan Wu
Open Journal of Social Sciences (JSS) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/jss.2018.64001
Non-profit organizations’ policy advocacy is an important force in promoting the scientification and democratization of public policies in China. However, in the overall structure of a strong government and a weak society in China, many problems exist in the process of public policy advocacy by NPOs. There is an urgent need to select typical cases to tap valuable local experiences. By combing the development history and major policy advocacy activities of Friends of Nature since its founding in 1994, this paper analyzes the effective ways for non-profit organizations to participate in policy advocacy. At the level of government, policy making should be more open and acceptable. At the level of non-profit organizations, efforts should be made to improve the political legitimacy, administrative legitimacy and internal legitimacy of non-profit organizations while enhancing the level of specialization, efficiently integrating the resources of all parties and exploring diversified ways of advocating.
A Review of Researches Workplace Loneliness  [PDF]

Psychology (PSYCH) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2018.95064
Abstract: Workplace health psychology is supported and upheld by psychologists, management scientists, sociologists and clinical psychology. Workplace loneliness has become a hot research topic in western occupational health psychology. The research about the spread of employee workplace loneliness in China is lagging behind. As a common negative emotion in workplace, workplace loneliness can bring in a series of negative effects on employees and individuals. At present in China, the transformation of the society and the rapid development of the economy have brought many problems to the workplace. To some extent, these problems will lead to the spreading of the common feeling of loneliness in the workplace. Therefore, it is necessary to study the crisis of workplace loneliness of our employees. At present, the study of loneliness in the workplace is still in its preliminary stage. The main purpose of this paper is to review the main subject of the study of loneliness in the workplace abroad, and to introduce its concepts, dimensions, measurement methods and related research into the country, and provide reference for Chinese scholars to study the rising crisis, that is, the sense of loneliness in the workplace.
Pattern and Policies of Mainland China’s MICE Industry  [PDF]
Jianhua Wu, Xuan Xiao
Chinese Studies (ChnStd) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/chnstd.2012.12002
Abstract: China’s MICE industry has witnessed rapid growth over the past decade. In the mainland China, however, its further development is affected by deficiencies in the planning and controlling policies. This short report will introduce the pattern of its MICE industry, discuss the merits and deficiencies of local and state-level policies, so as to explore directions for institutional improvement. The division of five econoimic zones was first put forward by Feng Jun (2006) with a view to promoting exhibition business in mainland China. The framework was later enriched by Zhang Wei, Vice Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade. This short report illustrates the detailed features of each eco-nomic zone, as well as their incentive policies, with the hope of helping the local and central governments in their policy-making for MICE industry.

The Market Reaction To Stock Splits Used as Dividends  [PDF]
Yang Xiao-Xuan
Technology and Investment (TI) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/ti.2013.41B009
Abstract: This paper investigates the market reaction to stock splits based on China’s A share companies between 2007 to 2010. I find significant positive abnormal returns around the announcement date (especially before the announcement date) as well as four to six days before the execution date of China stock splits. I also observe significant negative abnormal returns just around the execution date. The above phenomenon is relatively stable even if the selection of samples and empirical models may vary, but the degree of this phenomenon might change overtime. The cross sectional regression of the abnormal returns for the announcement date shows that the phenomenon is sensitive to the split ratio and the market, and it is not sensitive to industry, company size and cash dividends. Therefore, combining with the empirical data i have constructed a high Sharpe ratio short selling investment strategy around the execution date. Then, the article further discusses the operability of the investment strategy and its stability over time.
Assessing Chinese Commercial Bank Technical Efficiency with a Parametric Hyperbolic Distance Function  [PDF]
Xuan Fang, Feng Yang
American Journal of Operations Research (AJOR) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ajor.2014.43012

This paper contributes to the literatures about Chinese commercial banks technical efficiency. In order to eliminate the deviation of efficiency scores caused by an undesirable output that is represented by banks’ non-performing loans, the estimation is based on an enhanced parametric hyperbolic distance function which considers not only desirable outputs but also undesirable outputs. Furthermore, we extend the model to divide the factors that affecting technical efficiency into direct factors and indirect factors and exclude the influence of the latter when analyzing the determiners of banks technical efficiency. The validity of this model is examined by a panel of bank data from 2004-2010.

Change-Point Analysis of Survival Data with Application in Clinical Trials  [PDF]
Xuan Chen, Michael Baron
Open Journal of Statistics (OJS) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ojs.2014.49062
Abstract: Effects of many medical procedures appear after a time lag, when a significant change occurs in subjects’ failure rate. This paper focuses on the detection and estimation of such changes which is important for the evaluation and comparison of treatments and prediction of their effects. Unlike the classical change-point model, measurements may still be identically distributed, and the change point is a parameter of their common survival function. Some of the classical change-point detection techniques can still be used but the results are different. Contrary to the classical model, the maximum likelihood estimator of a change point appears consistent, even in presence of nuisance parameters. However, a more efficient procedure can be derived from Kaplan-Meier estimation of the survival function followed by the least-squares estimation of the change point. Strong consistency of these estimation schemes is proved. The finite-sample properties are examined by a Monte Carlo study. Proposed methods are applied to a recent clinical trial of the treatment program for strong drug dependence.
