Infectio , 2012,
Abstract: since the human immunodeficiency virus (hiv) was known, more than 2.5 million infected children around the world have been diagnosed. with this knowledge also came the advent of the highly active antiretroviral therapy (haart) which has achieved a better quality of life and greater life expectancy of unweaned infected babies. however, people receiving this therapy present particular conditions that make them a population with different attention and care needs. this review addresses the most relevant clinical aspects present in hiv infected children receiving haart.
Migrant-Local Government Relationships in Sending Communities: The Power of Politics in Postwar El Salvador
Peraza, Xiomara;
Migraciones internacionales , 2008,
Abstract: this article analyzes refugee political transnationalism in el salvador. it assesses the domestic or homeland component of migration history in this central american country by focusing on the role of both local governments and specific communities. moreover, it considers differences between areas that vary in terms of the level and type of political organization during and after the civil war, the levels of international migration, population concentration in settlement areas in the united states, and the types of relationships between local authorities and both collective and individual migrants. studying and comparing political transnationalism may help explain why transnational initiatives progress in some settings but not others. this study considers some of the factors that should be taken into account in order to understand transnational activities in sending communities. the finding show that partisan politics constitute an element to be studied as part of the conditions that may enhance or limit relationships between migrants and local governments in postwar el salvador.
Abstract: This paper shows results using an amusement park premises, in order to improve appropriation of such physics concepts such as; circular motion, work and energy, among others. I assumed the park as an experimental lab. That’s the reason why I performed and applied a guidance material, taking it as a learning object. These guides have the objective to relate theory and experience by the analysis about some mechanical attractions. The experiment was carried out with students in the subject “mechanical physic” in a public university, from Bogota, Colombia. I developed both, sessions in the classroom and in the amusement park, also was assessed on three times (before, during and after to the park visit). Analysis of results and conclusions, allow us to see the level of skills development, dimensions of knowledge and strengths of the process, showing an improvement about significance and construction on concepts discussed.
Efectos adversos del tratamiento antirretroviral en ni os infectados por el virus de la inmunodeficiencia humana Adverse effects of antiretroviral treatment in children infected by the human immunodeficiency virus

Infectio , 2012,
Migrant-Local Government Relationships in Sending Communities The Power of Politics in Postwar El Salvador
Xiomara Peraza
Migraciones internacionales , 2008,
Arrieta,Xiomara; Delgado,Mercedes;
Enlace , 2006,
Abstract: technologies of information and communication (tic) include different sectors of society, from production, economy, science and culture up to education. several countries of the world have incorporated tic into high education, involving the ideas of globalization and word wide spreading of knowledge, creating new ways of teaching and learning everyday. the purpose of this investigation was to determine previous knowledge that a group of teachers of 9th grade of basic education, in the area of physics, had about tic, applicable to the proccess of learningteaching in this subject, to offer a program of training and updating. the methodology used in this case permitted to give this group of teachers a serie of workshops and assessment about the use of internet and educative software for the teaching of physics, in order to apply these resources as an impacting tool to tackle some topics of this subject during their daily work. the effectiveness of these teachers′ formations was measured through their students, determining their impressions and acceptance of the use of technologies as a part of the educative transformation in our time. these students showed great interest in the study of some topics of physics using these resources, allowing the creation of motivating and challenging educative environments for the construction of knowledge.
El fenómeno de envejecimiento de los asfaltos
Vargas,Xiomara; Reyes,Freddy;
Ingeniería e Investigación , 2010,
Abstract: this work presents a state of the art revision of the results from studies of asphalt aging found by researchers aimed at deepening understanding of this complex phenomenon. the background shows the evolution of asphalt aging, initially considering it as physical hardening and progressively recognizing it as a complex phenomenon having repercussions on asphalt durability and physical-chemical properties. this document aims to be a guide for understanding future investigations for developing new types and mixtures of asphalt having improved properties.
Three strategies to solve the wave propagation problem in a 3d fluid-solid interface
Contreras,Xiomara; Aldana,Milagrosa;
Revista de la Facultad de Ingeniería Universidad Central de Venezuela , 2009,
Abstract: two implicit strategies and an explicit approach have been used to solve the problem of a fluid-solid interface in a 3d medium. one of the implicit strategies considers a transitional zone and the other is the traditional one. to solve the boundary conditions at the interface using the explicit strategy, two planes of ?fictitious points? were added to the grid. a predictorcorrector approach was considered in this case. a finite difference staggered-grid method was used to solve the wave propagation problem in all the cases. the results obtained show a marked difference between the three strategies. for the study configuration and the hardware and software conditions of this work, the traditional implicit strategy seems to better model the fluid-solid interface. in this case, the internal interface is not treated by explicit boundary conditions, as it is represented naturally by changes of the elastic parameters and the densities. on the other hand, the reflected wave field shows higher amplitudes than those expected for this problem in the images obtained with both, the explicit strategy and the one that incorporates the transitional zone. such undesirable effects could be the result of the combination, in the first case, of the small size of the propagation volume considered in this work, the low performance of the boundary condition function applied at the external surfaces of the volume and the predictor-corrector method for the explicit strategy. the first two aspects combined with the presence of the transitional zone could be responsible of the behavior observed for the second implicit strategy
Martínez Oliveros,Xiomara;
Utopìa y Praxis Latinoamericana , 2008,
Abstract: from the coexistence of ?differents,? the political is constructed - a conflicting dimension, substantially tragic, an unavoidable field of hostility in human societies. over these considerations, we reflect about the sociology we perform, about how we construct and read our political realities. the study proposes, in synthesis, to travel from political sociology toward an exercise of practical reason that privileges the ethnographic treatment of those who are ?different,? of political theory as interpretation and, at the same time, as a utopia of democratic radicalization. our work attempts a peculiar exercise of transdisciplinary thought about what is political in that, at the same time, theory, method and ethical horizon overlap.
