A New Approach of Deriving Bounds between Entropy and Error from Joint Distribution: Case Study for Binary Classifications

Abstract: The existing upper and lower bounds between entropy and error are mostly derived through an inequality means without linking to joint distributions. In fact, from either theoretical or application viewpoint, there exists a need to achieve a complete set of interpretations to the bounds in relation to joint distributions. For this reason, in this work we propose a new approach of deriving the bounds between entropy and error from a joint distribution. The specific case study is given on binary classifications, which can justify the need of the proposed approach. Two basic types of classification errors are investigated, namely, the Bayesian and non-Bayesian errors. For both errors, we derive the closed-form expressions of upper bound and lower bound in relation to joint distributions. The solutions show that Fano's lower bound is an exact bound for any type of errors in a relation diagram of "Error Probability vs. Conditional Entropy". A new upper bound for the Bayesian error is derived with respect to the minimum prior probability, which is generally tighter than Kovalevskij's upper bound.

Abstract: The existing upper and lower bounds between entropy and error probability are mostly derived from the inequality of the entropy relations, which could introduce approximations into the analysis. We derive analytical bounds based on the closed-form solutions of conditional entropy without involving any approximation. Two basic types of classification errors are investigated in the context of binary classification problems, namely, Bayesian and non-Bayesian errors. We theoretically confirm that Fano's lower bound is an exact lower bound for any types of classifier in a relation diagram of "error probability vs. conditional entropy". The analytical upper bounds are achieved with respect to the minimum prior probability, which are tighter than Kovalevskij's upper bound.

Abstract: This article explores the utility of knowledge discovery in Neural Network Ensembles. A novel neural network ensemble model KBNNE(Knowledge-Based Neural Network Ensembles)integrating KDD(Knowledge Discovery in Database)techniques and neural network ensemble algorithms by parallel operations is proposed. By balancing the relative importance of knowledge learned by induction and deduction, the new model improves the quality of neural network ensembles and has been applied successfully to actual modeling problems.

Effect of anneal temperature on electrical and optical properties of SnS:Ag thin films  [PDF]

Abstract: SnS and Ag films were deposited on glass sub-strates by vacuum thermal evaporation tech-nique successively, and then the films were annealed at different temperatures (0-300℃) in N2 atmosphere for 2h in order to obtain sil-ver-doped SnS ( SnS:Ag ) films. The phases of SnS:Ag films were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) system, which indicated that the films were polycrystalline SnS with orthogonal struc-ture, and the crystallites in the films were ex-clusively oriented along the(111)direction. With the increase of the annealing temperature, the carrier concentration and mobility of the films first rose and then dropped, whereas their re-sistivity and direct band gap Eg showed the contrary trend. At the annealing temperature of 260℃, the SnS:Ag films had the best properties: the direct bandgap was 1.3 eV, the carrier con-centration was up to 1.132 × 1017 cm-3, and the resistivity was about 3.1 Ωcm.
Chaotic synchronization of network of Chen''''s chaotic attractors using nonlinear coupling function

Abstract: This article offers a method to realize the synchronization of non-symmetrically nonlinear-coupled chaotic systems, studies the chaotic synchronization of Chen's chaotic attractors, and analyzes the influence of chaotic synchronization by numerical simulation under different coupling strengths and different initial conditions. We also extend the synchronization method of non-symmetrically nonlinear-coupled systems to the study of large network linked by numerous Chen's attractor system units by all-to-all-coupling and star coupling. We deduced the equation of errors which ensures the stability of synchronous state, studied the influence of different coupling strengths on synchronization stability and determined the range of coupling strengths which ensures the synchronization. By numerical simulation we proved that if we choose nonlinear functions as coupling functions, it effectively realizes the synchronization of all-to-all-coupling network and large network linked from star sub-networks. We can foresee that the non-symmetrically nonlinear-coupled synchronization method could be widely used in network synchronization.
Effects of fertilization on nitrogen and phosphorus run-off loss from Qingzini paddy soil in Taihu Lake region during rice growth season

Abstract: 选取太湖东岸的青紫泥水稻土区,对常规施肥和不施肥条件下水稻季稻田氮、磷的流失进行了观测。结果表明:水稻种植季内田面水和降雨径流水中氮磷的浓度呈现前期高后期低的趋势,初期施肥之后的降雨流失使稻田水中氮磷浓度大幅度降低;整个水稻生长季稻田氮磷的流失总量分别达38.8和0.95kg.hm-2,且主要以田面水径流流失为主;氮素主要以水溶性的铵态氮流失,而磷素则主要为颗粒态流失。不施肥处理中稻田氮、磷流失分别是常规施肥处理的47%和60%;水稻生长初期降雨下的氮径流流失占整个水稻生长期的50%,磷素占33%。降雨事件下的流失是农田非点源污染的主要贡献期,因而应作为控制的关键因子;对于基础肥力高的水稻土可考虑轮流施肥以减少环境的氮、磷流失与水系污染风险。
Analysis of the Connection Between K Connector and Microstrip with Electromagnetic Bandgap (EBG) Structures

Abstract: For the application of connector (K103F) at -band, many problems exist, due to the complex method of installation. In this paper, the test fixture is simplified, and the performance of this section is improved with the Electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) structure. Simulation results are presented for the connection structure with EBG; plots of the input reflection of geometrical and physical parameters are reported and commented on.
Controlling chaos using time-delay nonlinear feedback

Abstract: A method of chaos control using time-delay nonlinear feedback based on stability criterion is proposed. By a suitable separation of the chaotic system, a special nonlinear function is obtained. We use the difference of nonlinear functions of the chaotic output signal and its delayed output signal to construct a continuous feedback input perturbation. The method can stabilize chaotic systems to a desired periodic orbit without using any external force. The method retains the advantages of performing the self-control via delayed feedback control method. Besides, the validity of control is ensured due to the stability criterion. The control can be started at any moment, and it is convenient and flexible. The coupled Duffing oscillator is given as numerical examples. The results of numerical simulation show the validity of the method.
The Influence of Laking Iron on Ultrastructure of Cells and Some Morphlology of Cucumber Leaves

Abstract: We had observed the ultrastructure of cells of cucumber young leaves lacking iron with transmission electron microscopy and had determined changes of some morphology of plant. First the choloroplast structure was broken, and second some mitochondria structure was damaged. The structure of nucleus and endoplasmic reticulum kept intact. After lacking rion for twenty days, most thylakoid of the chloroplast of the young seedlings disintergrated, some cavities appeared in the mitochondrin. Plants were weak. Leaves turned yellow. The contents of chlorophyll were lower.
