Abstract: The homogeneous bismuth titanate single-phase nanoscaled ceramic powders have been prepared by means of metalorganic decomposition. The thermal decomposition/oxidation of the preheated precursor, as investigated by differential thermalgravimetric analysis, X-ray powder diffraction, and environment scanning electron microscope, lead to the formation of a well-defined orthorhombic bismuth titanate compound. Formation of the layered perovskite-like bismuth titanate occurs via intermediates with sequential changes in the coordination polyhedron of bismuth. The chemical reactions of precursor powder in heat treatment process have been investigated further by Raman and Fourier transform infrared spectra, and the reaction mechanism was tentatively proposed thereafter.

Large Magnetoresistance over an Extended Temperature Regime in Monophosphides of Tantalum and Niobium

Abstract: We report extremely large magnetoresistance (MR) in an extended temperature regime from 1.5 K to 300 K in non-magnetic binary compounds TaP and NbP. TaP exhibits linear MR around $1.8\times 10^4$ at 2 K in a magnetic field of 9 Tesla, which further follows its linearity up to $1.4\times 10^5$ in a magnetic field of 56 Tesla at 1.5 K. At room temperature the MR for TaP and NbP follows a power law of the exponent about $1.5$ with the values larger than $300\%$ in a magnetic field of 9 Tesla. Such large MR in a wide temperature regime is not likely only due to a resonance of the electron-hole balance, but indicates a complicated mechanism underneath.
Finite Difference Simulation of Implosive Collapsing for Aluminum Spherical Shell  [PDF]

Implosive collapsing for spherical metal shells is a kind of dynamic compressing method, in which high pressure and high compression degree of materials can be attained. In present work, the dynamic process of implosive collapsing for spherical metal shells was regard as spherical symmetry ideally, so one-dimensional spherical symmetric fluid dynamics conservation equations were established, and the finite difference schemes for solving these equations were given. An aluminum spherical shell was assumed, whose inner radius is 4cm and thickness is 2 cm. In numerical simulation, initial centripetal velocities (800, 1000 and 1200 m/s) were used to make aluminum spherical shell collapse. The simulation results show that during the process of implosive collapsing, the material exhibits a compression-expansion-compression pulsation process, and the internal pressure changes and distribution are consistent with the theoretical expectations. The simulation results can be used as a reference for relevant analysis.

Abstract: We theoretically investigate the angular and spin dependent transport in normal-metal/helical-multiferroic/ferromagnetic heterojunctions. We find a tunneling anisotropic magnetoresistance (TAMR) effect due to the spiral magnetic order in the tunnel junction and to an effective spin-orbit coupling induced by the topology of the localized magnetic moments in the multiferroic spacer. The predicted TAMR effect is efficiently controllable by an external electric field due to the magnetoelectric coupling.
Electrically controlled persistent spin currents at the interface of multiferroic oxides

Abstract: We predict the appearance of a persistent spin current in a two-dimensional electron gas formed at the interface of multiferroic oxides with a transverse helical magnetic order. No charge current is generated. This is the result of an effective spin-orbit coupling generated by the topology of the oxide local magnetic moments. The effective coupling and the generated spin current depend linearly on the magnetic spiral helicity which, due to the magneto-electric coupling, is tunable by a transverse electric field offering thus a new mean for the generation of electrically controlled persistent spin currents.

Abstract: We propose a modified spin-field-effect transistor fabricated in a two dimensional electron gas (2DEG) formed at the surface of multiferroic oxides with a transverse helical magnetic order. The topology of the oxide local magnetic moments induces a resonant momentum-dependent effective spin-orbit interaction acting on 2DEG. We show that spin polarization dephasing is strongly suppressed which is crucial for functionality. The carrier spin precession phase depend linearly on the magnetic spiral helicity. The latter is electrically controllable by virtue of the magento-electric effect. We also suggest a flash-memory device based on this structure.
