The Principles and Laws of Black Hole Universe  [PDF]

Abstract: A new alternative cosmological model called black hole universe was recently developed by the author on the basis of the following three fundamentals: 1) the principle of spacetime black hole equivalence, 2) the cosmological principle of spacetime isotropy and homogeneity, and 3) the Einsteinian general theory of relativity that describes the effect of matter on spacetime. According to this black hole model of the universe, the author up-to-dately has self-consistently described the origin, structure, evolution, expansion, and acceleration of the universe, quantitatively explained the measurements of cosmic microwave background radiation, type Ia supernovae’s luminosity distance and redshift, and dynamic properties of star-like, massive, and supermassive black holes such as gamma-ray bursts, X-rays flares from galactic centers, and quasars, and fully overcome the difficulties of the conventional model of the universe such as the problems of horizon, flatness, monopole, inflation, dark matter, dark energy, and so on. In this paper, the author will examine and overview thoroughly this new cosmological model and completely describe its development from the three fundamentals and its creative explanations to the existing observations of the universe. From this comprehensive investigation of the new cosmological model, the author will further reveal the fundamental regularities and laws of the black hole universe with respect to the spacetime mass and radius, spacetime equilibrium, spacetime expansion and acceleration, spacetime radiation energy, and spacetime entropy variation. These efforts will help us to uncover various regularities and mysteries of the universe.
Event-Related Potential Effects Associated with Insight Problem Solving in a Chinese Logogriph Task  [PDF]

Abstract: The electrophysiological correlates of insight and non-insight problems solving were studied using event- related potentials (ERPs). Participants were given some time to guess Chinese logogriphs and then presented with an answer to judge whether it matched the logogriph. Results showed that the insight trials elicited a more negative ERP deflection (N300-500) than did the non-insight trials in most scalp regions. In a later time window from 600 ms to 1100 ms, the insight trials elicited a more positive ERP deflection (P600-1100) than the non-insight trials, mostly in central regions. The results indicate that the early N300-500 effect may reflect cognitive conflict resulting from the breaking of mental set and the later P600-1100 effect may be related to the formation of novel associations, both crucial to the occurrence of insight.

Abstract: Using effective lagrangian, we examine the impacts of new physics on the electroweak baryogenesis. By analysing the high dimensional operators relevent to the Higgs potential we point out that the Higgs mass bound required by electroweak baryogenesis can be relaxed to the region allowed by experiments, provided that new physics appears at the TeV scale.

Abstract: We calculate the top quark loop corrections to the Zbb vertex in the chiral lagrangian of the dynamical electroweak symmetry breaking theory. We use the effective lagrangian based on coset space SU(2) X U(1) / U(1) with the gauge interactions switched off, so these corrections are directly related to the Physics associated with the heavy top quark and the mass generation in the dynamical models.

Abstract: Beijing Spectrometer (BES) at Beijing Electron Positron Collider (BEPC), IHEP has accumulated 2.5 $\times 10^7$ J/$\Psi$ and plans to increase the number to $10^8 \sim 10^9$ in the near future. In this paper I review and summarize the recent studies on the possibilities of probing for new physics at BES. This includes the theoretical works on and experimental attempt performed at BES in searching for flavor changing neutral current, CP violation and lepton flavor violation in the processes of J/$\Psi$ decays.
Water Film in Saturated Sand  [PDF]

Abstract: In order to investigate the initiation mechanism of landslide and debris flow occurring on a gentle slope. The formation and evolution of water film (or crack) in saturated sand is analyzed by numerical and theoretical simulations under given conditions. First a psudo-three-phase model is presented considering the movement of skeleton and water and the erosion. Secondly, difference method is used to analyze the formation conditions and the evolution of the velocity of water and pore pressure and porosity. Thirdly, a simplified theoretical method is presented based on the consolidation theory to analyze the initiation, expansion and close. It is shown that there are stable water films when some point is blocked and the state keeps unchangeable or there exists a thin layer with very low permeability. Once the blocked point is open, the water film will disappear gradually. The evolution of water film may be calculated by a simplified method. The analytical results are agreement well with that of Kokusho.

Abstract: An E-class MADS-box gene, PdMADS2, was isolated from Populus deltoides Bartr. ex Marsh male floral buds by RT-PCR. As shown by relative–quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction analysis, the expression of PdMADS2 was high in apical and floral buds, intermediate in immature xylem and roots and low in mature leaves of adult male P. deltoides. In developing male floral buds, PdMADS2 expression was high and remained constant from July to September, increased significantly on February 6 and quickly fell to a very low level with the maturation of the flowers. In male inflorescences, PdMADS2 expression was abundant in the perianth cups and inflorescence peduncles; it was not detected in mature pollen. In female inflorescences, PdMADS2 was highly expressed in both ovaries and inflorescence peduncles. Our results suggest that PdMADS2 plays an important role in the development of inflorescence meristems and flower organs in poplar.
The effects of cumulative forest disturbance on streamflow in a large watershed in the central interior of British Columbia, Canada

Abstract: The Baker Creek watershed (1570 km2), situated in the central interior of British Columbia, Canada, has been severely disturbed by both logging and natural disturbance, particularly by a recent large-scale mountain pine beetle (MPB) infestation (up to 2009, 70.2% of the watershed area had been attacked by MPB) and subsequent salvage logging. The concept of equivalent clear-cut area (ECA) was used to indicate the magnitude of forest disturbance, with consideration of hydrological recovery following various types of disturbance (wildfire, logging and MPB infestation), cumulated over space and time in the watershed. The cumulative ECA peaked at 62.2% in 2009. A combined approach of statistical analysis (i.e. time series analysis) and graphic method (modified double mass curve) was employed to evaluate the impacts of forest disturbance on hydrology. Our results showed that severe forest disturbance significantly increased annual mean flow. The average increment in annual mean flow caused by forest disturbance was 48.4 mm yr 1, while the average decrease in annual mean flow caused by climatic variability during the same disturbance period was 35.5 mm yr 1. The opposite changes in directions and magnitudes clearly suggest an offsetting effect between forest disturbance and climatic variability, with the absolute influential strength of forest disturbance (57.7%) overriding that from climate variability (42.3%). Forest disturbance also produced significant positive effects on low flow and dry season (fall and winter) mean flow. Implications of our findings for future forest and water resources management are discussed in the context of long-term watershed sustainability.
