Some problems in application of MDD model (I)

Abstract: In the process of40Ar/39Ar experiment, excess40Ar(40ArE) released from K-feldspar at low temperature step may mask the real age and thermal history information of the sample. A method for Cl correction of40ArE has been introduced and successively used in correction of abnormally high age values of three K-feldspar samples at low temperature step taken from the Red River fault zone. It provides a reliable age information at low temperature step for further multiple diffusion domain (MDD) model fitting.

Abstract: A binary mixing model for excess argon is suggested in the note. According to this model and the data of excess argon component obtained in our experiment, a quantitative study of the effect of excess argon on real K-Ar age of young volcanic rocks is done. The result indicates that the effect of 5% excess argon component in samples on K-Ar age of the samples more than 2 Ma is less than 7.36% and can lead K-Ar age of 0.5 Ma samples to increase by 32.4%, while 1% excess argon component leads K-Ar age of 0.5 Ma samples to increase by 6.26%. Therefore, when pre-processed excess argon component is 1%, K-Ar age of the samples more than 0.5 Ma should be credible. On this basis we suggest a principal opinion for evaluation of previous K-Ar dating results and propose that the matrix is used to determine K-Ar age of young volcanic rocks. For the samples less than 0.2 Ma, in the case of high excess argon content, even if only 1% excess argon component exists in their matrix, it can also greatly affect their K-A age. Thus it must be careful to treat the dating result.

Abstract: The cooling curves are obtained using specific40Ar/39Ar stage heating procedure and MDD modeling. In addition to the results of dating hornblende (K-Ar) and apatite (FT), the widespread existence of rapid cooling events has further been confirmed. A new knowledge of the starting time of Gangdese overthrust faulting in the east of Zedang, which was earlier in south and later in north is acquired.
Correlates of the Reading Interest of Chinese High School Students in International Schools

Abstract: Reading builds and shapes a man’s life as part of the society he chooses to belong. It is an essential tool for learning especially for young students who should possess a level of interest in reading to enable them to understand and appreciate materials and tools for learning.The study underscores the significance of reading interest in one’s learning process and analyzes the different correlates that affect it and their extent. It brings to fore important features of independent and variable factors that function as correlates. To do this, a survey was conducted of a group of Chinese third year high school students in an international school in Makati City, Philippines. On the independent factor, which is the personal profile of the respondents, the study involved more males than females. They are young and come from average income families. They belong to the average and high average students in their English classes. Majority prefer to join groups than be alone. On the variables, which are the external factors, the data showed that parents and teachers influence them to a very great extent while classmates and friends affect them only to a great extent. Majority expressed that their home environment is generally conducive and reading materials are available. In presenting its findings, the study finally attempts to show how they apply to our subject -- the Chinese high school students in international schools in general.

Abstract: The Phenomenon of multi-step Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) of a finite number of non-interacting bosons in anisotropic traps has been demonstrated by studing the populations on eight subsets of states. Abstract: The photodegradation of gaseous dichloromethane (DCM) by a vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) light in a spiral reactor was investigated with different reaction media and initial concentrations. Through the combination of direct photolysis, O3 oxidation and HO. oxidation, DCM was ultimately mineralized into inorganic compounds (such as HCl, CO2, H2O, etc.) in the air with relative humidity (RH) of 75%-85%. During the photodegradation process, some small organic acids (including formic acid, acetic acid) were also detected and the intermediates were more soluble than DCM, providing a possibility for its combination with subsequent biodegradation. Based on the detected intermediates and the confirmed radicals, a photodegradation pathway of DCM by VUV was proposed. With RH 75%-80% air as the reaction medium, the DCM removal followed the second-order kinetic model at inlet concentration of 100-1000 mg/m3. Kinetic analysis showed that the reaction media affected the kinetic constants of DCM conversion by a large extent, and RH 80% air could cause a much lower half-life for its conversion. Such results supported the possibility that VUV photodegradation could be used not only for the mineralization of DCM but also as a pretreatment before biodegradation.

Abstract: A high precision thermal ionization mass spectrometric (HP-TIMS) technique is used to determine238U,234U,232Th,230Th concentrations and their ratios in whole rocks and minerals separated from Quaternary Maanshan, Dayingshan and Heikongshan volcanic rocks of Tengchong volcanic field, Yunnan Province, China. The238U-230Th isochrons are given, yielding four age values (227±20) ka (D-1, Dayingshan), (79.6±5.5) ka (D-7, Dayingshan), (21.9±3.0) ka (h-1, Heikongshan), and (7.5±1.0) ka (M-1, Maanshan). The result is not only consistent with but also preciser than those measured by the K-Ar method and the alpha spectrometry U-series method, indicating that the HP-TIMS method is reliable and has high precision. Besides, a procedure of HP-TIMS analysis of young volcanic rocks in China is set up preliminarily.
