Evaluation of China’s Financial Risk Using Projection Pursuit Clustering Model and Its Positive Research

Abstract: The evaluation index system for China’s financial risk (CFR) and its single-index assessment criteria were used to generate sufficient samples. The projection pursuit clustering (PPC) model with a new objective function is applied to evaluate the CFR during 1994 to 2012. Four rules for establishing valid PPC model are put forward in this paper, and the real optimal projection vector coefficients as well as others parameters are obtained by applying artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm. Positive research shows that PPC model is suited to evaluate CFR, and a valid PPC model as well as six sub-system models for six aspects of CFR is established. The CFR level during 1994 to 2012 generally lies on Proper-safety level except that in 2008 belongs to Risk level. In terms of the six aspects of CFR, the bank risk is the greatest and the second is the risk of economic growth.

Abstract: According to the current status that the Civil Aviation Industry lack of effective method for airborne electronic equipment life prediction. Based on studying characteristic parameters of the airborne electronic equipment lifecycle, this paper analyzes some real service data of airborne electronic equipment, and then use airborne electronic equipment life prediction method which based on normal distribution fitting, study the life distribution of series components with the same part number, and gives the confidence interval of the overall mean and variance in the 0.9 confidence level.

Abstract:

New Zealand capital markets currently do not serve retail investors well, creating investor skepticism regarding participation. A recent Reader’s Digest survey rated financial advisers among the least trustworthy of professions. This article maps the legal implications of the new measures introduced by the Financial Markets Conduct Bill 2011 to guard investor interests in relation to financial products and services. The paper provides a useful critique of the proposed reforms, in particular, whether the “Product Disclosure Statement” (PDS) and the new licensing of fund managers will give retail investors confidence in investing through financial intermediaries. The paper concluded with recommendation for New Zealand regulator to obtain inspiration from overseas model.

Abstract: In the post-massification period, it is a beneficial attempt to the reform of English Teaching based on subject content for non-English-majored graduate students. Content-Based Instruction (CBI) has been defined as “the teaching of content information in the language being learned with little or no direct or explicit effort to teach the language itself separately from the content being taught”, which can make non-English-majored graduate students not only learn subject knowledge but also improve their foreign language (English) ability in learning content. Results in this study showed that: in the post-massification period, content-based English teaching could improve the level of motivation and English language ability of students in their English learning, but CBI was not suitable for poor English learners with no good foreign language (English) basis.

Abstract: This paper reviewed a one-term experiment on integrating internet-based language laboratory (IBLL) in teaching intensive reading to first-year non-English-majored graduate students from Yangtze University. Subjects in this study consisted of 58 non-English-majored graduate students in the control group (CG) and 58 non-English-majored graduate students in the experimental group (EG). The results showed that 1) compared with a teacher-dominated approach for CG, internet-based language laboratory English instruction method for EG did a better job in enhancing students’ productive skills; 2) there were significant differences between males in CG and EG, and females in CG and EG.

Abstract: This study investigates the word meaning acquisition of polysemous words for English majors by the way of questionnaire and two word meaning tests. The conclusions are drawn as follows: providing primary meaning to students can help them guess the extended meaning of unfamiliar polysemous words than providing the other extended meanings; the English majors at different language proficiency level show similar acquisition effects in primary meaning but different acquisition effects in the extended meanings. Therefore, in vocabulary instruction, if the word meaning acquisition sequence can be followed and the connections of word meanings can be cherished, the word meaning instruction outcome will be more efficient.

Abstract: This article focuses on a study of the effect of strategy training on vocabulary comprehension. 112 sophomore English-majored students at Yangtze University were chosen as participants in a strategies-based instructional treatment or comparison group students receiving the regular vocabulary course. Data were gained through the performance of a set of two vocabulary tasks on a prepost basis by both groups and were analyzed by the tool SPSS17.0. The subsample of 24 students also provided verbal report data to show their cognitive insights into strategy use and the instruction itself. The findings showed that 1) Chinese English-majors used a variety of English vocabulary learning strategies in vocabulary learning, including metacognitive, cognitive and social/affective strategies. 2) The increased use of vocabulary strategies contributed positively to vocabulary and article comprehension.
Effects of Content-Based Instruction to Non-English-Major Undergraduates English Teaching with Internet-Based Language Laboratory Support  [PDF]

Abstract: With development of technology of computer and internet, it is a beneficial attempt to the reform of College English Teaching based on the subject content with Internet-Based Language Laboratory support for non-English-majored undergraduate students. Content-Based Instruction (CBI) has been defined as “the teaching of content information in the language being learned with little or no direct or explicit effort to teach the language itself separately from the content being taught”, which can make non-English-majored undergraduate students not only learn subject knowledge but also improve their foreign language (English) ability in learning content in Internet-Based Language Laboratory (IBLL). 90 non-English-majored undergraduate students in Yangtze University participated in this study for one-year experiment to investigate effects of CBI English teaching with IBLL support. Results in this study showed that: 1) Compared with the control group (CG), both CBI English teaching and CBI English teaching with IBLL support could improve the level of English learning motivation of non-English-majored undergraduate students in their English learning, and CBI English teaching with IBLL support is better in enhancing the level of English learning motivation; 2) compared with the control group (CG), both CBI English teaching and CBI English teaching with IBLL support could improve the level of English language applied ability of non-English-majored undergraduate students in their English learning, and CBI English teaching with IBLL support is better in enhancing the level of English language applied ability; 3) both CBI English teaching and CBI English teaching with IBLL support are limited for some non-English- majored undergraduate students with poor foreign language (English) basis.
